Have just experienced transmission problems with my 2003 rav4 auto and was wondering if anyone else has had similar problems. It is still at the repairers but they said it is a fault in the computer system that is sending incorrect signals to the transmission and damaging the transmission. Apparently it is beginning to happen quite a lot with some models of Toyota and that Toyota are agreeing to pay a partial amount of the cost dependent on the service history etc of the car. Despite being out of warranty Toyota have agreed to pay for the parts but not the labour which means that i will still be paying around $3000 on a $7000 bill. Am talking to Consumer Affairs at the moment. Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?

I have just had the same problem - diagnosed today at 65,000 Ks on my 2002 3 door Rav4 cruiser (which I love). I did a google search on 2002 rav4 transmission problems and there were many pages about exactly this problem - mostly in the usa.
Before Igo ahead with the repair on Monday - about $6000 - for teh computer and transmission can you please tell me how you got Toyota to agree to pay for the parts and what progress you made with consumer affairs.
