  1. Just an update to say that I've pretty much fixed the problems I was having. I found where the remaining hose had to go, and I replaced the spark plugs, and now it runs a lot better. :)

  2. Thanks a lot mate, that helped me find one of the places a vacuum hose was meant to go. :D

The other one I need to find though isn't even a part of that 22RE haha. Mine is so primitive that from my previous pictures you could see there's vacuum hoses everywhere that aren't present on the pictures you took.

Thanks again though, that got rid of one headache at least. ;)

  3. Well, my parents have an '87 corona with a 22RE. It probably isn't exactly the same but I'll go around and take some pictures for you anyway tomorrow. You never know hey :)

    Cheers mate, greatly appreciated. :)

  4. Looks like that hose provides the vacuum for the vacuum advance mechanism on the distributor. That would explain why it runs like crap - the timing isn't right except at idle.

No dice it seems, all of the possible places for hoses on the distributor have their homes already. The two diagrams posted as well don't seem to show the two hoses I'm trying to find homes for. Also; when idling the engine shudders terribly, but once given a bit of gas it'll settle down, but resume shuddering again when I let off.

What I really need is a real-time photo of a 22RE engine that I can work off of. I'm tempted to go door knocking in my local area on houses I see that own a '84 Celica and see if they have a 22RE.

  5. While I'm waiting for my account to be verified on other forums, I'll post up some pictures in hope that someone else has a 22R EFI engine.

First: This picture shows where the 2 vacuum hoses that aren't connected start from.

Second: A closer look at the vacuum hose in the back of the first picture.

Third: A closer look at the vacuum hose in the front of the first picture.

I hope someone will be able to direct me to where both of those hoses are meant to go to.

    Cheers,

    Phill.

  6. Hey dood.

Its possible the cut vacuum lines are causing the rough running.

If your lucky there should be a sticker with the vacuum diagram under the bonnet somewhere.

You could also try the forums at toymods.org.au to see if someone has a diagram.

    Thanks mate, I'll take a look. :)

  7. G'day,

Late last year I bought an RA65 (22R engine, EFI) and It had been sitting in my driveway for a while because it didn't come with a battery (was intended as a project car, had it brought home on a trailer). Long story short, recently got a new battery but while the car is running, the engine shudders and shakes like crazy. If I give it anything more than ~2000 revs, when I let off the accelerator it'll shudder to a stall. I've noticed that there are 2 vacuum tubes that appear to have been cut, and I can't find where they were meant to be previously, and my Haynes book doesn't mention too much about the EFI model.

Basically my question is: Would those 'cut' vacuum tubes be the cause of the shuddering and stalling? Or would it be related to something else in the engine? I know a bit of mechanics, but I thought I'd get some advice before I start tinkering too much trying to fix it. I haven't serviced it yet (new spark plugs, leads etc), but I'm not sure if it'll fix the problem completely.

I guess Ill do a service of the engine, and see how that goes. A long shot I know; but would anyone have a diagram or anything similar of where the hoses are all meant to go?

    Cheers,

    Phill.

  8. Hey guys,

I current have a 1980 RA40 Celica with a 3-Speed Automatic and was wondering how easy/hard it would be to swap the 3-Speed for the 5-Speed Manual that was also available in the RA40.

Can I do it by myself with the correct tools/parts and a manual, or should it be done by a mechanic/shop?

    Cheers in advance,

    Phill.
