Due to the lack of replies, am I right to think that this is not a common problem?

I had the Kluger stall after about 1 minute after a cold start on Friday, Saturday and when warm on Sunday.

Backed out of the driveway and just after I accelerated up the hill, it stalled in the middle of the road. Restarted OK, happened again, restarted once more and it was fine.

Next day, stalled just as I took off, restarted and it was fine until I was traveling at 60kph down a straight road and it stalled!!! - Wouldn't restart for 10 minutes.

A bit peeved by this time.

I had already started thinking about flow meters and idle issues on the Saturday, but problems can be hard to diagnose if an intermittent problem and now that it had stalled while driving it is now a concern for when the missus is driving with the kids.

After about an hour trolling the internet for more possibilities, I decided to try an clean the Mass Air Flow (MAF) meter as it looked to be the easiest and cheapest first attempt, otherwise it was likely to be dealer time.

I did not have any consumption issues or rough idling previous, so I was a bit skeptical it was the MAF.

I am guessing that it would have cost a couple of hundred to have dropped off a car to mechanic and get them to diagnose and fix.

After finding and cleaning the MAF with electrical contact cleaner ($15- can) - No problems so far, touch wood.

I just wanted to post the best resources I found - and it appears to be a common but very very easy to fix problem. 10 minutes tops.....seriously

There are little bits of information scattered around, but nothing kluger/highlander related in the v6 that I could find.

I will probably do this every 20k from here on in.

my 03 grande front tyre is about to goon.. needing a new set ASAP...(215/65/17)

any suggestion on what tyre to get??? and how much do it gonna cost me....

i'm thinkging of rotate my current rear tyre (215/65/17) to the front and getting NEW 265/65/17 for my rear.... dunlop for about $290 each....

just wondering is it legal to have differnet tyre size on front and rear????

also will that do any damage to my 4wheel drive system???

or should i just stick to the origenal sizeeeeeee on all 4 tyre....

Don't go for that tyre - Way too big, Not only for that rim width but also the rolling diameter.

In physical height, standing your current tyre side by side with the one you are considering, the new one will actually be 65mm taller.

The correct tyre for the model is actually a 225/65/17

You can mix tyre sizes but only minor differences eg 215/65/17 on front and 225/65/17 on the rear.

I wouldn't use different profile sizes at all

Another thing that can cause temperature issues on the gen1 is a loose temperature knob on the climate control panel (on RHS)

Pull off the temp adjustment knob (pulls straight out) - Behind the plastic knob is a spindle that it mounts on to and a metal nut that holds everything in place.

Sometimes this can come loose and lose contact with the little circuit board behind the clear plastic.

Give it a go - I know there are some other posts around somewhere if you want to search first.

Pretty simple and it fixed mine.

I have had enough of this shi7, I am going to deal with this tomorrow!

HI All i have a 05 CV with 96,000 km on the clock. White in colour with rear parking sensors and cargo barrier. Very happy with the Kluger. Last weekend took it for a trip to Sydney and the avg L/l00 km came in at 9.4 on BP 98 octane.

I am a little concerned with the price of parts for the Klugers they are a lot more expensive then most cars i have owned in the past so look after your ride's well.

All I can say is EBay - there are quite a few toyota genuine parts on there from time to time.

Filters, roof racks, headlight covers, mats, tow bars, replacement keys etc

It seems to me there are 98% gen 2 owners on this forum, any gen 1 owners? It'd be ncie to have a mix.

2006 CVX, Blue/Grey (not sure on the official colour name), just ticked over 50k doing a run down to Busselton (WA). Did the whole wine tour deal through margaret river with four adults and three kids. Very happy with the handling in the wet on the winding roads loaded up with seven people and day luggage.

Can anyone tell me if there is logic behind the overdrive button defaulting to on, then once disabling it a light appears on the dash with "overdrive off". I just presumed it would default to off and you would have to engage once you hit cruising speed. On occasion ill forget when you first start the car to disable the overdrive and it is noticeably sluggish. Shouldnt the light come on to alert you to a function being active?? Im may be overlooking some reason if someone can point it out or advise if the default can be reversed!

Has anyone come across a tried and tested accessory to link up an Ipod to the factory stereo in the CVX? I bought the top of the range Belkin FM tuner/charger with "Clearscan" but it is still very average.

If you want to retain the factory head unit - the only option i know of is to use a tape to 3.5mm plug adapter thingy, much better quality than an FM transmitter

I have the Yoko Geolanders on mine as well - have not had the car long enough to get a feel for the wear v mileage, but they seem to be a pretty good tyre

It is there for functional and cosmetic reasons.

It keeps dirt and other crap out of there and helps prevent calcification type corrosion on the alloy parts caused by water etc.

Matt - one other thing about the roof rack v tow bar.

How tall are you? I am 5'7" and I have to stretch to tie things down....hell, I even need a step ladder to clean it :P

I am guessing you could find it pretty hard to secure a bike with how tall they are.

Towbar wasn't too hard to install yourself

Hah - CVX Kluger the perfect Camry upgrade!!

I ended up getting the Rhino sports racks for mine.

I have not got the bike fitting just the kayak ones so far.

Rhino make the Toyota factory rack as well.

There have been a couple of sets of the factory roof racks on ebay recently

With the Tow Bar - I bought a toyota factory one and installed it myself - about 4 hours but I reckon it would be 1.5 hours next time.

Cost about $270 and another $45 for the wiring loom.

One big thing about the box is that they can slide laterally - but when you go away with kids, the boot space dries up pretty quick.

I have thought about them as well but found the price prohibitive for the amount of times it would be needed.

Are you looking at an air-box and high flow filter mod as well?

It usually goes hand in hand with a free flowing exhaust

ex lease veichle, mine had the rear spoiler on it already (I think it makes a huge aesthetic improvement)

I have since got the factory mats and boot liner (highly recommend) put a towbar on it and got some rhino racks for the kayak

The consumption is exactly the same as my 1995 V6 camry that I sold to buy this.

It sits at about 12L/100km give or take.

It seems to me there are 98% gen 2 owners on this forum, any gen 1 owners? It'd be ncie to have a mix.

2005 CVX - Only had it for a couple of months but it going pretty well so far

I picked up a 2005 CVX about 6 weeks ago.

I noticed the hesitation as well, I still bought it as it was easier to deal with than an unhappy missus who loved driving it.

Really didn't rate it as a deal breaker as I only noticed it if I pushed it a bit accelerated out of a corner (from a crawl) and it hunted for a gear - only talking a slight hesitation though.

Absolutely love the car - does everything we need it to.

I did the same searches you did and read about all the transmission issues and got quite worried - drove it, loved it.....see what happens I suppose.

I may not have the problem (or as bad?) that others were describing - but have noticed the slight hesitation but went in with eyes open.

I ended up picking one up with 43k for $25k-

Spent a little bit on some genuine toyota parts - towbar(self-fitted), mats, headlight covers and I highly recommend the boot liner (stuff slides around back there like no mans business - and a set of Rhino racks as well.

I was pondering a nudge bar - but I will wait a few months before I do anything else

I recommend driving another one, same model and compare for peace of mind.

I have just taken delivery of a 2005 CVX and was quite surprised with the speedo accuracy.

It is by far the best of any car or bike I have owned.

This is using a window mounted navman GPS.

At 100kph on GPS the kluger is showing an indicated 102 which means at 60kph it is pretty much exact.

I was quite surprised as I can't really get away with driving the usual 110 (indicated) in a 100 zone anymore and have now had to tone that back a bit.

I also found out my speedo is 6km out from my Tom Tom. Do you think Toyota will fix this FOC if you complain? They'll probably say some bs that its the rule to over state.

This has always been a problem on bikes I have owned as most people will change the sprockets at some point and therefore alter you speedo calibration if using an electronic speedo.

I would usually install a yellow box speedo calibrator http://www.yellr.com

Another option for a car is to put on tyres with a slightly larger profile than standard (if the speedo is reading faster than you are going)

What made you settle on getting the DDX-8032BT with Bluetooth ($1400)and getting the $850- approx garmin plug in gps instead of going the other way with getting a DNX7320 with GPS ($1800) with the plug in bluetooth for $275 approx.

Just interested as I am more likely to get the integrated GPS but wanted to know if you found any other advantages to your set-up (I hate having a window mounted Sat Nav as I do currently)

Has anyone used the reversing camera from the Gen II kluger on the Gen I?

There were a number of reasons I chose the DDX8032BT over the DNX7320.

The advantages of the DNX7320:

1. Cheaper.

2. Easier to install - Bluetooth could go anywhere when using DNX7320. Navigation had to be installed in a position so that you could access the SD card if necesary when using the DDX8032BT.

3. Matt black finish matches the Kluger interior better; the DDX8032BT has a gloss black finish.

The advantages of the DDX8032BT:

1. Navigation is a separate component; I heard that there have been problems with service on the Garmin navigation component as Kenwood and Garmin say it is the other companies problem. If there is a problem with the Garmin navigation, I still have the head unit while it is being serviced. There should also be more room inside for cooling.

2. The DDX8032BT has 2 USB ports; 1 for IPOD sound and video (with the adaptor) and 1 for USB memory or 2 for USB memory. The DNX7320 has only 1 USB port which can be used for IPOD sound and video (with the adaptor)or USB memory. So, if you use an IPOD, you can't use the USB port.

3. In the US, the DDX8032BT is sold as part of the Excelon range, which is supposed to be their higher end systems. In the US, these systems also have a 2 year warranty, so they may have more faith in their reliability or it's just a marketing ploy.

4. The DDX8032BT sound is able to be customised to suit the car and the speakers. It is possible to set the type of speakers, the crossover frequencies to each set of speakers, the distance of each speaker to the listening position and the level of each speaker. There is also a 13 band equaliser for each set of speakers. You can also select your listening position, front right, front left, front both and front and rear so that it sounds good for everyone in the car.

5. The DDX8032BT has 5.1 surround. I thought that this would be a bit of overkill, but it sounds so good now that I am thinking of installing a subwoofer and a centre speaker.

I had a window mounted sat-nav which was fine until I got the Kluger. When mounted on the window of the Kluger it was either too far away or too high.

Why would you want to use the camera from the Gen II Kluger on the Gen I Kluger?

If you don't want the external switch control and you dont mind a slightly smaller screen, the Pioneer AVIC-F900BT, $1690, was a cheaper option than the DNX7320 and looks nicer. It also uses Parrot Bluetooth, like the Kenwood units. It was my second choice after the DDX8032BT.

I had a look at the Pioneer - aparently there is quite a significant problem with it booting up - in that it can take about 1min before you can play music or do anything, which leads me to my next question.

What sort of boot up time does the kenwood have? and how long before a reversing image comes up?

One of the reasons I am looking for this type of unit is to also install a reversing camera, but I don't see the point if one has to wait 30sec - 1min for the screen to come up so you can back out of the driveway (missus gets a bit impatient)

Thanks - I'd already seen that particular page, but no mention of MP3 compatibility. I know the 2007 model got an update that supported it, so I now think it's unlikely.

You mention a wiring harness adaptor? Will this make it easy enough to do the job myself?

The last head unit I put in - I got an adapter from Supercheap.

It basically has a kenwood plug on one end and a toyota plug on the other - No soldering, no re-wiring.

You just have to find the right one - worth the $20 bucks or so for the ease of it though

Not sure about the pioneer, but I know that the Kenwood systems bolt straight in (get a wiring adapter harness to make the instal easier
