  1. well I took the plunge and bought from the ebay guys with the Bridgestones (they are actually Taleb Tyres, located just near Sydney airport)

    great job!

quote was $250 per tyre fitted

I actually fitted 3 tyres only, as I used the spare which is new (so they swapped the spare wheel with one already on the car)

    highly recommended

  2. from memory, the new klugers (back in 2008) had a problem with the wheel alignment or something structural that caused the tyres to wear out too quickly & unevenly- there were lots of posts on this forum about it.

im sure its been rectified since then with the newer models, but wondering if our Klugers eventually got the fix for it during the regular servicing.... or are we still going to suffer again with the replacement tyres

  3. Hi all

ive done about 34,000km, and need to replace all 4 tyres :nono:

to stay with the original brand (Bridgestone dueller 400 i think) is $395 a pop fitted!! (Parramatta, Sydney).

alternatives such as Kumho was $328, and Hankook at $308

I prefer to move away from the Bridgestones because I felt they should have lasted longer? - just plain suburban driving, mostly short trips around the burbs.

    ANY suggestions, tips or comments?

  4. How do I playback MP3' or WMA discs on the Grande?

I have tried burning discs with either WMA or MP3 files but cannot get them to play, it comes up saying "no music file."

I am a complete newb to this and have no idea..... :help:

    Thanks

make sure the disc is finalised and no more data can be burned to it (some programs require this to be set)

also check if you can play the songs on pc afterwards

  5. took delivery of the freddie, and they programmed the sunroof opening/closing via remote.

as for the auto locking of the doors, i requested it, but it wasnt done. i looked in the manual that i received with the car, and there is no mention of this being able to be customised

im thinking of getting the beeping sounds disabled when using the power tail gate. in the supermarket car park, people think its a truck reversing or something as its quite loud (the audible beeping when tail gate is opening or closing)

overall EXTREMELY happy with the 2WD grande

fuel consumption is only marginally more than our existing bmw sedan, but we get much more benefit from the huge space available to passengers and cargo (had to transport a washing machine last week, sinch! )

  6. Just curious. How does the auto dimming rear view mirror actually work. There is a sensor front and back but does anyone know the principle behind how it works??

From my memory the front sensor knows when its night ie dark, and compares light received via rear sensor and dims the glare accordingly

  7. Hi all,

was hoping we could start a thread outlining what prices have been paid for recently, and which dealer you bought from.

there are bargains out there with the clearances that all manufacturers have to do, particularly with Japanese companies as their end of financial year is March 31st !

    thanks all

  8. Thanks Guys and Mikeyboy,

Never owned a vehicle before that would self lock and to be honest I've really not read the owners manual properly.

I'm just careful to never leave the keys in the car with the windows up.

By the way it has never self locked since the orig posting on the matter.

in another thread it was stated that the kluger can be programmed so the doors automatically lock once you start driving off. can anyone confirm they have this feature working currently ? If YES was it there by default or did it have to be programmed in ?

    thanks

  9. IMHO getting reverse sensors is a must.. I've got both front and back but the front sensors only work on 2 points.. thus when parking it is useless as it wouldn't sense the distance between the front car or tow bar and yours. The only advantage is you will be able to get out of the lot without bumping on the car in front of you.

I definitely have to agree with you there. Since having the front sensors installed I've really only been able to use them once, and have needed them several times but they were ineffective because they didn't have any range in front. I decided not to go with the rear sensors as I figured the camera would be sufficient. I still can't judge distances with it yet.

on the lexus luxury models their screen displays guidelines indicating where your own bumper is (red horizontal line) so it helps for judging distances. they also have green vertical lines on the side to help line up the car straight when reversing

i wonder if the kluger screen could be marked to show where/when you should stop reversing before you hit something?

  10. before I made up my mind to buy the kluger, i did consider the cx-9 however the "official" fuel consumption of 13L scared me off knowing that actuals would be higher.

some of the cx-9 owners from the ozmazda forum are saying they are STILL getting 16.9L after 6000kms!!!

another is even worse at 18-20L

most seem to be around 14.7 to 14.9L

i think i made the right decision with the kluger (for many reasons, not only fuel consumption)

  11. by the way, i dealt with pennant hills toyota, and the deal was done over the phone in 5 mins!

i told them i wanted a late 08 build in crystal pearl, and only 1 accessory - the nudge bar

took some advice from this forum, so in the future i can add the accessories when required at cheaper prices ie step, roof rack etc

2WD Grande with nudge bar for 56K drive away (mats included anyway!)

The sales rep name is Dhamikka. Great service there

    thanks

  12. If you don't want it to beep everytime you lock or unlock the car then that can be turned off.

You Probably also want the auto headlight settings adjusted as some users have commented that they tend to be too sensitive (See Auto headlights setting ).

Finally get them to adjust the tyre pressure as they can be overinflated from the factory (See Tyre pressure).

There are a number of electronic customisation that can be made and a list is available from http://mojavetrail.webng.com/CustomParameters.pdf but I believe this is an extract from the US Highlander manual as the default parameters don't quite match the way my vehicle behaves.

thanks for that, i will check it all out

btw - does the kluger doors lock automatically once you start driving ? good safety feature especially here in sydney

  13. i went to the dealer today - They were able to offer me the white with Dec 08 build so its quite recent. $57k with extras ie sstep, roof rack, tinting, floor mats.

If i went for an 09, its an extra $2.5K due to exchange rate and its over the luxury car tax threshold too

too bad i couldn't get a good trade in price, so i will have to sell my baby mx-5 privately before i can get my hands on a kluger

As others have pointed out previously you're generally able to find accessories such as roof racks, tinting and floor mats significantly cheaper aftermarket (plus you don't have to pay luxury car tax on them if you buy them later).

Also dealers look at the overall profit of the deal, ie profit on trade-in plus profit on new car sale. If they won't budge on a new car sale with a trade in then probably not worth going to them.

What type of model was the one they quoted? You shouldn't be paying that much at the moment for anything other than an AWD Grande.

2WD Grande for $57k, same deal that sparky received

  14. I see Toyota have just started a gold fleet discount campaign for 08 models. Must have a whole stack of them sitting around. Now is a good time to bargain.

  15. Finally got one today after watching the prices since the beginning of the year. It is a 2WD Grande with towbar, side steps, roof rack, front parking sensors, floor and cargo mats and mud flaps for 57K. I highly recommend Ryde Toyota because they were so pleasant to deal with. We walked out of Truscott's Toyota after we couldn't agree on the deal for 57K. The salesperson just walked away without even saying goodbye after I said we'll think about it. Ryde Toyota was happy to do the deal for us.

    Sparky

Guess what! i just came back from Ryde Toyota and saw your post. I havent talked price with them yet, so we shall see. I have a fleet quote from work for a 2WD Grande, and the price including stamp duty/rego/metallic paint is $56.6K

I think your deal of 57K with those extras is fantastic. can u tell me who the sales person is so i can deal with them too?

    thanks
