  1. Huge problem....

I would suspect that you have a tow wiring harness fitted!

The grommet, if not fitted correctly has probably fallen out. check out the 'jack' location (rear right) and look for dust. if you see and dust, the grommet has fallen out! this will continue to happen unless you secure the harness so that there is no 'pressure' on the grommet.

    good luck!

  2. OK Guys...the simple facts....

'Older' 200's may not have had the fix applied.

The fix will allow 6th gear to engage from 95 upwards.

depending on the 'loading' of the vehicle the gearbox still may not kick into 6th. Toyota have created a scenario that helps the gearbox kick into 6th asap and stay there a little longer..an instruction sheet should come with the vehicle ( but i did have to prompt my dealer to hand it over).

    The scenario....

put the vehicle into 'sportsmode' by shifting the stick to the right.... then push it forwards twice until the 'display' shows '6'. this willhelp 'push' the box into 6th asap. you can put the stick back into 'drive' posn once this has been done without removing the temp reprogram. You will need to do this everytime you drive the vehicle on the highway (not towing of course).

I did a trip from Adelaide to Katherine a few months ago and was able to take full use of 6th gear..believe it or not, according to the display, the faster you go the more economical....

ended up with sub 10 lph while in the territory, back to 11s in SA

hopefully this is a much simpler explanation....

  3. Has anyone else got unusual high oil consumption with their V8 Turbo Diesel, or is it just me ?? :(

Within a few weeks after delivery I noticed my new GXL Wagon was using oil. Not just a bit, but 1.4L in the first month alone ! (about 4000km). Now, 4 month later, my 4WD is undergoing yet another oil consumption test at my local Toyota Service Centre. It appears it is mostly obvious after driving long hill climbs. (i.e. Blue Mountains, Snowy Mountains). Just topped oil up again, this time with 1.1 L just after 3000km.

Finally heard today (3rd. party) that this is internally known within Toyota, but yet nothing done about it!

Anyone else with information or similar experience ?

Checkout my posting in the LC200 section..http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17964...noisy diesel. Make sure your dealer submits a 'DRP' as per my posting..

    Cheers

  4. We got our new prado delivered today :yahoo: but the one thing I was looking forward to was being able to listen to my Iphone (ipod) in the car and I can't seem to get it to connect, I can connect it via bluetooth to make/receive phonecalls, but when I connect it through the auxilliary using the USB cable I cannot get it to play any music!?

Anyone know how to do this or is Apple just sh*t??

    Thanks!!

    Elle

Hopefully it would be similar to the Rav4 radio where you can stream directly to the radio via bluetooth....

  5. Hi All.

I have been buying LC's (DIESEL) since 1999 and generally average 2 new ones every 3 years( used for business) and i had great hopes for the 200 series when i first heard of the new model. like the rest of you I had all the promises about the improved fuel economy and power. I feel that the 200 series is a huge let down considering the promises made by toyota and many of the modifications and quality of build is extremely sub standard.

Just to go through a few of the issues and concerns with my 200.

lack of acceleration when you need it the most ( need to plant the foot to get out of a sticky situation)

noisy motor Toyota replaced my engine @10000km(new long motor but old equipment that was on the motor, starter motor, fuel system and everythimg else that hangs off it was put back on- no improvement) this noise appeared suddenly at 1500 km.

dust intrusion into the vehicle ( a lot of dust from the tailgate lower door)

lowering of the bullbar with the 'new' mounts for the bullbar(genuine)

Why did they remove the sub tank in the diesel! I get 600km at best out of a tank. make it useless for bush driving

These are some of the issues for which DPRs have been filled out.

The main point behind this posting is to inform you that Toyota will not react to calls to their 'customer care centre'. They will only react if they get enough reports from the dealers. This form that must be filled out by the dealer is known as a DPR (dealer product report) and in the case of the dust intrusion, the 'care' centre has had a lot of calls from customers but only 1 dealer, mine, who has filled in the DPR. The result of this is that Toyota does no see any 'faults' and does not react.

Please insist on your dealer filling in a DPR for any concerns you might have with your vehicle, it will be the only way Toyota will admit to themselves that they have any problems. As an engineer dealing with control systems, Toyota's excuse for sloppy acceleration being due to the 'fly by wire' setup is rubbish. it is plain and simply dodgy engineering of the control system and the associated algorithms.

PLEASE, PLEASE insist that your dealer fill out a DPR so that we, the customers, benefit sooner than later.
