  1. Hey just a question regarding price, It seems like EVERY sportivo is signifigantly above the Redbook price.

Now I know redbook is not always right and some might even think its a joke, but I have found it to be quite accurate on all the other models I'm looking at buying, except the corolla sportivo.

For example redbook suggests that a 2003 Sportivo with 150,000km should have a private price of about $12,400. One with low K's (90,000) for $14,300.

Now I know most of the Stivos on here have mods, and I can definately see u guys trying to get as much money back on them as possible but normally one wouldn't expect to make much money back on the mods installed on a car for sale. And often stock as a rock ones are more than modded ones!

Don't take this is a stab at the prices set by the sellers, it's your car, you set the price, it's just a query as to why it might differ so much to what redbook advises. Maybe this post should be sent to redbook instead!

  2. Found a car I would probably buy......22,000km's.....$8,990!!!!!! IF ONLY IT WAS MANUAL

    http://cars.ebay.com.au/TOYOTA-TRUENO-AE-1...emZ200373499439

I've seen these cars b4 but never really gave them much attention, now I'm looking for a new car I'm a little more interested....

So I did a quick search on the old interwebs and couldn't find much.

Im guessing they put out about 120kw and weigh like nothing? Good combination.

Looked on car sales and most of them with MORE K's are like $12,000-$16,000, there was one which was $10K and Manual but didnt look at nice as the ebay one.

So yeah can you guys provide any more info on these? And wheather they are typical Toyota build quality and do things like "rev out to 9,000rpm"?

And if parts and such would be a hard time to get.

    Thanks

  3. forum member here in melb sold his 03 Sportivo with 80000k's for $14.5k..... so IMO.. 13 is too high.

Really? What color and mods? Thats pretty good. BTW I saw a Red Sportivo in Burleigh Stocklands yesterday and omg it was so fricking awesome. I think Red is my new favorite sportivo color!

Hey thanks all for the input.

Well tommorow I'm getting the wrx inspected and looking at the Levin, as they are both in Brisbane.

To be honest WRX will probably ****, like the last 2 I was interested in. One had **** paintwork and an engine that looked like it was going to break down (I didn't get it inspected, might have been OK but I doubt it) and the other WRX in coffs was perfect....until I backtracked his posts on rexnet.com.au and found out it had been flooded up to the number plate. He still denied it and said he was posting for his brother's car....but thats a whole other story.

    Will keep y'all updated.

Hey Sickular... would you believe i work just next to Stocklands ;)

do you live down that way or something?

    Evo

Yeah I live in Reedy Creek. Work in Elanora, soon to be working in Tweed South.

Well wrx was *****. Rust in boot both sides behind tails, along weld seams. Hail dents. Trim bits n pieces coming off here and there. Oil Pressure gauge fluctuating now and then. Not worth the drama so bit of a waste of a trip. sigh.

  5. I'll probably get flamed for this...... but having drivin both I'd say a WRX putting out 180kw atw would eat any 'lightly modded' sportivo.

But yes the way I see it:

Sportivo: My ideal choice as it has economy, good power, love the leather interior styling. But all those for sale are to expensive for my budget

WRX: Got to say I love the wrx rumble and would love driving this thing anywhere. I know that fuel economy is worse, but it's not that bad. If Subi Evolutions tells me its a great car after inspection then I reckon its a steal at $11,000, and couldn't pass it up. I know that parts can cost more but hey, ur driving a WRX!

Levin: Economical and cheap to maintain. Would save more money because I would not mod it, except for maybe stereo. But would make me feel like I'm out of the 'cool car club' lol.

But anyway the thread was for Sportivo vs Levin, Conquest, Ascent comparisons, which it seems has most things covered.

Any thoughts on wheather the Levin I'm looking at is a good deal?

Thanks all for the info so far! :-)

  6. I have my eye on one at a dealer in Brisbane, 2003 Levin Hatch 104,000km Manual with sunroof. And I like sunroofs!

How much is it going for? Based on that maybe ppl can be able to let you know whether it is worth it or not? or even how much extra you can pay to get something better. :-D

Well I had a chat over the phone, and got the impression I could get it for $13,000 Drive away (stamp duty, 6months rego) and has a 5yr $3000 warranty (probly not worth the paper its written on though) which I thought was a fair deal considering its from a dealer. And there is stuff all Levin's for sale. Full of ascents, but... screw them. I aint buying no bottom of the range corolla!

Hey I sold my 34 a lil while ago and have been looking for a new car.

    -Kim

Hey bro just wondering... WHY DID U SELL THE 34 was it a GT-R, GT or a GT-T???

It was a GT-T, fast, but as it was a tiptronic it was'nt as fun to drive as a manual. Drank fuel like a drunken irish sailor. And I've now realised that I'm a 4 cyl man.

    100kw V's 141kw

    easy decision in my eyes.

if power is what he is after then don't get a stivo

there are plenty of high power cars for that price

main difference is the engine, climate control and the safety features

all have crappy interior which you would have expected from a toyota

High powered cars like the WRX I'm looking at! Its got a sti turbo, Haltech ECU, 3" TBE and a FMIC (which I didnt particularly want tho - cop magnet) which is putting about 180kw to the ground! Thats goin for about $11,000. And it should have about 9.5L/100km as it has aftermarket engine management. Lack of an ECU is the main reason some wrx owners get such crappy fuel economy. (that and their lead foot)

  7. I only recently bought a sportivo mate and they are awesome to drive, very spartan on fuel and have plenty of power for driveability. I havent driven the newer corollas so i dont know how they compare to them sorry.

OK cool, what model did you get?

A few other things? Do all 2003+ corollas have a timing CHAIN? Because a few I'm looking at are hovering about 100,000km where a timing belt change would normally be due.

And any feedback on what models offer features such as ABS, Dual Airbags, power windows etc?

Hmm what car to buy, so confusing, because Im also looking at GC8 WRX's! One path leads down sensibility and better runing costs/fuel, where as the other one would be very FUN to drive everyday but not as good fuel econ etc. Think WRX's have about 9-10L/100km.

  8. Hey I sold my 34 a lil while ago and have been looking for a new car.

Been thinking about getting a Sportivo but since I've been between cars...I've kind of been liking money in my bank account, so I'm thinking of spending less and getting an Ascent, Conquest or Levin hatchback. Also extra monies would be handy to have especially when I have a girlfriend dead set on going to travelling the globe.

I have my eye on one at a dealer in Brisbane, 2003 Levin Hatch 104,000km Manual with sunroof. And I like sunroofs!

Just wondering what sort of things I'll be missing out on if I 'downgrade' from a Sportivo.

So far things I'd miss would be the vvtL-i engine :( , leather trim, climate control, sportivo rims and Red illuminted dash.

But the Levin seems to have a white illuminated dash. How does the engine go on these models? I notice on the tacho it redlines at 6,000rpm. Oh and if I got a non sportivo I doubt I would even put an exhaust

So can someone give me some extra info between all the models please?

    -Kim

  9. The guy that wrote that article is a douche...

Only problems you will consistently get are:

    1. Clunky/resistant shifting with gearbox (2nd & 4th particularly).

    2. Dash vibration when accelerating (could be the complex headunit mounting).

    3. Vibration somewhere on over-run when decelerating (could be shift cables).

    4. Groaning front brakes (when you fix them, the noise comes back in 2 weeks).

    5. Cold start hesitation on some cars (mine has this quite bad, think I've fixed it now).

I've never seen any issue with panel gaps on cars that haven't had a nudge from another car.

My gearbox has started leaking since ABS at Springwood touched it, before that it was fine. :(

    Gav.

Those are pretty bad/annoying problems! And to have all of them!

Well gives me something to look out for anyway.

Hopefully I will own one soon and be able to enjoy all the ups and downs and 'lifts' of Sportivo ownership!

  10. As some of you may know I'm selling my R34 in hopes to buy myself a nice 2003+ Sportivo. Test drove a stock standard one today (73km) and was impressed, and could only see it getting ALOT better driving one with a few mods (lowered suspention, exhaust, CAI .... supercharged?? )

But during my internet research I stumbled across this rather negative opinion of the ZZE123R and overall build quality of the Sportivo's taken from a thread at rollaclub.com

The ZZE123R Sportivo Corolla's are nice, but quality wise they are buckets of *******. Made in Southafrica, they are riddled with problems. From Noisy heater box mechanisms, from new battery's failing at any one moment with collapsed cells, upholstery that doesn't fit or even gets stitched correctly, panels that don't line up on the outside, UN matched brake compounds for the Australian conditions, creaking doors and panels, bad engine vibrations felt throughout the vehicle, water leaks, 2nd rate shockies and a long range transmission thats ALWAYS bearing-noisy to match; you'd have to be keen to pay $20,000 + for a 2nd hand south African, and hope to god its still in warranty. With that said, they are still an absolute hoot to drive, and have a gut full of poke .
Oh, heres something to ponder over.

KE** - 1966 to 1984 - give or take, 20 yrs - F*ing champion motor. Simple, Cheap, No power, Thrash happy.

AE** - 1983 to 2002 - give or take, 20 yrs - had a few issues in the early days, proved there reliability in my books.

ZZE*** - 2001 to 2006 - 5 years. It was a $h!t motor on paper, It was a $h!t prototype. It was a $h!tly build, and there still $h!t today. Not much has changed. excessively noisy, prone to valve train noise and breaking tensioners, blow by and doesn't like ANY sludge. Hope your religious and like oil changes. Oh, and if you think its rattling? it probably is.

ZRE*** - 2006 to ___ - Yeah, lets see how it goes. Appears to be a LOT better motor.

Now I'm not thinking that his word is the be all and end all, but the guy is admin on the board with 7000+ posts so I'm guessing he knows abit about abit.

Is there any truth to his statements? Have you guys had any problems or heard of any problems similar?

Like I said the one I took for a test drive today was awesome (though the engine was a bit 'noisey') and seemed to be good build quality.

While on the topic is there anything in particular I should look out for? There are a few of Sportivo's getting closer to the 150,000km mark and I guess build quality starts to show about then.

Also how long do you guys plan to keep your Sportivo? For me if I get one it will probly be with me for a very long time, or until it dies. You guys reckon they will still be running well over 200,00km?
