  1. Hi all,

My partner's RT132 (81) Corona Liftback has started making a rattling noise at idle. When you bring the revs up it is less apparent. It sounds like it could be in the valve gear. I bought a new valve cover gasket so I could pull it off and check/adjust the valves and reassemble everything. Any tips, opinions or advice would be appreciated. Motor is 18R-C.

Have a look and a listen here:

    Thanks!

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

If that thing has a timing chain I would be looking at the tension. some use engine oil pressure and a ratchet, hence the reduction when the engine is run faster and oil pressure increases.

    Hope this helps.

  2. G'day JOEKA,

I prefer to use a soft rope in place of a compressor, less noise, better feel and less chance of dropping a valve, remove spark plug and feed the soft rope into the hole coiling it as you go, then bring the piston up till you feel resistance, remove the valve springs by tapping a suitably sized socket on top od the valve spring cover so the collets can pop out and remove the old spring.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Yes, the air cleaner housing is down close to the road, that housing is fully sealed tho and no water will get into it...

The air intake is up higher and won't be sucking in any water at all so you have nothing to worry about :) ...

No sign of any splash guard?

Still nervous about the marks on the housing from I suspect kerb contact.

No way dude, stay well away from HP and Compaq.

Toshiba is top notch, as is Fujitsu, as is ASUS.

Have to agree with this, Compaq, HP and Dell all have exclusive drivers and some even have exclusive software and hardware, making them difficult to repair and costly for replacement parts or even repairs.

Make sure any portable has all industry standard available parts and programs with no hidden partitions, and you should get better performance and reliability with cheaper repair costs.

  5. Next time you polish the rig, use the rag you wipe the polish off with and give the winscreen a good rub (Clean it first), this will leave a fine wax layer on the glass, repelling water and extending the life of your wipers.

I have been using Silicon wipers for a couple of years now, very good.

  6. The wife had one also auto, had a two problems,

One, engine and transmission jerked when selected. Found mecanic had not replaced the engine mount bolt, sits up on top of the front wheel arch.

Two, Constant velocity joint failure, not broken altogether but enough to growl when moving off or stopping, soon after when slowing or moving off it felt like the front wheels were walking tather than rolling, turned out to be problem with the tyres out of round.

  7. I have a longish run to do so decided to check a few things including the condition of the Air Filter.

Followed the plumbing from the air inlet on top of the engine, off to the right hand side and down, then forward. Finally found the filter access wing nut right under the front bumper on the right hand side, so low it had scratches on it from hitting objects from below.

It's a short distance off the road ahead or the front right wheel. Must be an afterthought putting an air cleaner so close to the road, what will happen at speed on wet roads with spray from a truck in front?

Anyone had a problem with this? is a fix?

    Cant believe it. :o

  8. Google will bring a few up, not very detailed though.

Also note: a few of the sites offering downloads of manuals are high risk sites and you should avoid them.

Google WOT and download/install if you don't already have it. It will display a coloured ring alongside search engine listings. Don't go near the ones marked in red.

    Hope this helps.

  9. G'day Corey and welcome to the forums,

The description you have stated above should be enough to get the right bits from your local wrecking yard, plenty of them in your phone book.

  10. Welcome matey... :toast:

thats some serious km's you do in the comfort of your Toyota.

i used to sail when i lived in Sydney a few years back..44ft sloop called Akela mainly just harbour racing nothing outside the heads, but was still heaps of fun,but bloody exspensive. B)

    G'day 1st Kill,

Actually I was driving new trucks with new trailers and loaded with new equipment, we (3 of us) would drive 2 new trucks and 3 trailers over, the 3d trailer on our own truck, and all return in our truck non stop.

As for sailing, I still sail as often as I can, My son has a 42 foot Catamaran and lives aboard, I fly in and he picks me up at the air port and head for the marina step aboard and we are gone in 10 minutes. we stay out about a week or 10 days at a time.

We are both Contracting these days so organising a bit of time off is no problem.

    Avagoodweekend......

  12. G'day all, just logged on, hoping to get and give good advice.

I run my own business and drive a Hiace these days, looking forward to learning a bit more about what others have discovered.

Have always been interested in engines and due to remote locations in past years had to get them running well under difficult conditions. Not that you can do a lot with modern engines, seems they are designed as redundant parts to be exchanged rather than repaired these days.

I love driving and have covered a lot of ground including long distance driving between Qld and WA, as well courier work with many jobs over 1,000 km.

Also into boating, well sailing to be more precise. Offshore Yachtmaster in fact, still do the odd delivery up and down the East coast mostly these days.

    Avagoodweekend...... B)
