  1. I apologise, I should have specified 'regular premium' rather than 'regular unleaded'.

As I said, the performance of your engine relies on what its tuned for. If it aint tuned for 98 RON, I dont see how you could get a performance increase out of it. But hey if it does then go for it.

My car for example, I switched to BP Ultimate once I bought it and Ive been getting power problems and pinging at low revs, therefore I'm putting it in to be tuned to that specification. Mind you being a jap spec engine you'd think it would be tuned for like 101 RON or something...

What Im attempting to say is that when people say 'oh put high RON fuel in your car it will run better' I laugh...unless your car is tuned to accept and work with that fuel, it wont do jack.

  2. If you car isnt turbo or s/c then I doubt high RON fuel will make a *huge* amount of difference, since the car is simply not tuned for that type of fuel. Remember this is Australia not Japan and regular passenger cars (which the Corolla is - it aint a sports car people) are tuned for 95 RON fuel, ie regular unleaded.

Saying that, Optimax has fuel additives in it and these may be screwing around with your engine, rather than the low RON value.

  3. Well looking at mine (redid it today)...

Flexible piping with high heat rating - $24/m

'Air filter mount' (basically short steel/aluminum pipe length) - $30

Piece of PVC to get piping through to front cavity - $5

Air filter (semi cheap Supercheap brand) - $30

All up about $100, plus if you want to make an air ram to direct air into that front cavity. Of course if you want a K&N thats about $130 for the filter. Rollamods has a good example on his cars I believe.

  4. Not sure what the new gearboxes are like, but I've been told Toyota 'boxes have a tendancy to be clunky *shrugs*

And the one you test drove was a demo model, which means low klms but a lot of gearshifts. Its been run in a lot more than a brand spanking new one.

If youre desperate I'm sure you can get an adapter plate and put in a supra gearbox or something hehe.

  5. I'm sorry, if it were a sportivo forum, then call it that. I believe its a 'corolla' forum. It's amusing that you seem to think the only good corolla is a brand new sportivo. Perhaps THAT is the reason several people are making remarks?

A corolla is a corolla, new or old. If you make statements about one type being the 'best' then you're opening yourself for abuse. I'm not saying my car is the best corolla out there, far from it. But I wouldnt say sportivos are the best either. Think outside the square :)
