  1. I always, without fail, whenever im parking the car , be it sloping or flat, put it in neutral first then apply the hand/footbrake then, take my foot off the driving brake & let the footbrake take the weight then put it in Park.

Using this method stopped the crunching noise from the gearbox whenever I shifted into drive from park. Especially on a slope.

This way I noticed the footbrake properly takes the weight of the car & not the gearbox.

I never use the gearbox to hold the weight of the car.

Having owned both old & new model klugers , this works for me.

If your car moves after putting it in neutral & applying the footbrake get it checked.

Whenever the missus drives the car I get the crunch if if Im on a slope when I take the car somewhere.

I took this advice from some guy years ago on the footbrake topic.

Freaks me out to hear that most of us have this issue. I will give your suggestion a go luvthekluges, next time I park. Do you know of any long term effect for using Park gear to hold the car (especially a 2tn car)?

  2. Hi,

    Just like to know if others have experience the following;

    1. Car stopped at parking spot, flat ground.

    2. Foot on the foot brake and the parking Brake.

    3. Foot off foot brake.

    4. Then foot off parking brake (pressed fully to floor).

At this instance I experienced the car move a little forward  .

  3. Silly question, how do one use the roof rail ie. what do people use it for?

The rails are mounted on the sides of the roof. You then need cross bars (additional cost) upon which you can mount whatever you want to carry. The good thing about using rails is that you can adjust the distance apart of the cross bars, so you can carry a wide range of objects on the roof. And when you don't need to carry anything, you can remove the cross bars to decrease wind resistance and noise.

In my case the Kluger KX-R came without rails, so I purchased some Rola racks which are designed to bolt directly into the Kluger rail mounting points. See pic below.

However, these racks are 1300 mm apart which is too wide for a luggage box, and even if I could find a luggage box long enough to fit, the rear overhang would prevent me from opening the rear hatch.

So I would love to get some rails.

In the meantime I have puchased some Rhino Multi Fit roof racks which clip into the door frame and so enable me to carry the luggage box (I have a 7-seater which leaves little room for luggage inside when the rear seat is in use).

Thanks Ken. I got the same model and also roof rack from toyota. However they installed in much closer. I was thinking about a pod as well with my 7 passengers but you just pointed out something important ie. the length of the pod stopping the rear door opening.

  4. I asked Jimmy from newGENERATIONimports who runs an eBay store about rails for the KX-R and his reply was "we have our supplier to see if he can get his hands on some roof racks & roof rails. we are just waiting for supplier to get stock." Has anybody found any other supply of rails (apart from the Toyota really expensive ones)?

    Ken.

    Hey Ken,

Purchased a set of oem style side steps today from oznest on ebay (very happy with them. They look great on). He said his roof rails are on the boat and expected in about 2 week. Price suggested would be under $300 a set. Also had a look at his oem style nudgebars. Looked pretty good but only two damaged ones left in stock. They will arrive the same time as the roof rails.

    Hi,

  5. 1. The reversing speed is actual not as responsive as the forward speed. By that I mean the accelerator do not seem to get going in hurry when I am reversing. That is a good thing but is it meant to be? My previous car seem to need the same effort to go forward and backward.\

I would say that the difference in feeling you get here is due to the different gear ratios. Your first gear ratio is 4.235:1 whereas your reverse gear is 3.378:1. What this means is that you have slightly more torque when starting to go forward in first than when starting to go backwards in reverse.

A way to think about it is to get a manual car and compare the effort required to take off in first, then repeating the same thing but in second.

Each car is different, that's why your previous car may have responded differently. For example, my Aurion has a first gear ratio of 3.300:1 and a reverse gear ratio of 4.148:1. This means that my reverse gear is more responsive than my first gear.

    2. I felt there was a slight shuddering of the car when I accelerated from the lights couple of times and when driving along the freeway. It was a gentle take off doing 2000 to 2500 rpm at the lights. I doubt it was a wheel spin. Does anyone had the same experience?

You mentioned wet conditions so this would be the first thing I would think of when taking off from the lights. Do you have the 2WD or AWD? FWD are pretty easy to get some slip in the wet which can cause this shuddering feeling. I'm not sure about on the highway though.

May not be this all together. Someone else with a Kluger should give opinions/experience.

Thanks DJKOR, for the insight on the gear ratios.

I got the AWD model. Trying to repeat the problem but has not occur so far. BTW, realise yesterday at the pump the tires are on 35psi. Brought it back up to 40psi but do not think that is the cause.

  6. Hi folks,

Just took the new car for a drive from Sydney to Wollongong today under wet condition. On the way there, I've used the windy bit of road through the National park crossing the Sea Cliff drive to get use to the car's response with full load of 7 passengers. All is good, did about 5 to 6 sharp corners at recommended speed of 25kph but I think I was actual doing close to 30-35kph. Still the car had no sign of swaying or going wide.

Cruise along the freeway on the way home and found I actually bought the mileage back to 13.3 l/100 better than the 20l it was reading after two days when I had the car. Odometer reading now about 290.

    Got a couple of observations on the vehicle. Would like to know if anyone else has notice;

    1. The reversing speed is actual not as responsive as the forward speed. By that I mean the accelerator do not seem to get going in hurry when I am reversing. That is a good thing but is it meant to be? My previous car seem to need the same effort to go forward and backward.

    Hope to hear from you...

  7. Hi All,

Newbie here, had a good look at this forum and was impressed with not just the weath of information but people's willingness to share their passion. Got our new Kluger KX-R delivered last Thursday still busy getting use to it. Anyway, can anyone give me any suggestion/ advise how to best running in this car? Last time I bought a new car was more than 10years ago abit rusty in this area.

Secondly, the mileage reading is saying somewhere in the 20L/100km. We only clocked something like 40 km at the moment so does the trip computer need more distance for accurate reading? Please note I driving very gently not to stress the new engine too much.

Hope to hear from you soon. Any treads on this area is fine.

    Cheers and Thanks,
