  1. Thanks for the install info Hado, very informative and great photos too.

I agree with Kesawi though - the microphone does look big. How does it look if you take the foam cover off? Does it use a standard 3.5mm mic?

Gutsy effort though and thanks for sharing!

  2. *Quick update*

Finally got around to installing my rear sensors. Big thanks to everyone for their help, especially Dave for his measurements - although I did modify the centre sensor dimensions from 90mm to 70mm (or approx 50mm if you measure from the top of the flat section of the bumper down). Visually 90mm looked too high for me.

Overall I'm very happy with the install and the sensors work a treat. Install did take some time, but that was mainly due to unknowns on how to remove trim panels, determining wiring etc.

For anyone interested I installed the control unit to the passenger rear side, below the plastic cubby box on that side. There's a rubber grommet perfect for bringing the wires in and an earth point right in this location. I tapped into the reverse +ve wire (from memory this is a blue wire) behind the access panel on the left, keeping close to the main wiring loom so as not to get in the way if/when I need to change the reverse bulb. I then ran the speaker wire behind the passenger side rear trim panel and placed this behind, just above the 3rd row seat cup holder. If you take a look there is a small access panel in this location. My speaker has two volume settings, low and high and an off setting, so being able to access it here is perfect. Speaker is currently set to low which is more than loud enough for me.

If anyone has any specific questions just ask away - hopefully I can help.

  3. Hi Hado,

Thanks for the updates and extra info on the system. How are you finding the unit after using it for a few days? I'm also keen to see your write up on iGO8 and how you got this running, features, usability etc. Lastly did you end up connecting the reverse camera to the flyaudio screen?

    Cheers!

Edit - Another question, does the bluetooth automatically connect to your phone on start up? or do you have to initilise each time?

    Thanks!

  4. Hi Hado, thanks for the update.

Look forward to your more in depth report. I'm keen to hear your thoughts on the sound quality, ease of use, functionality etc.

Also, if you could explain your mic install a little that would be a huge help. Did you remove the trim cover on the A pillar or just press the cable in? I'm a little nervous with the airbag that resides inside...

  5. Hi udor,

Picked up our Kluger recently and I'm experiencing the same issue - I tend to feel it through the brake pedal as you move into gear from a cold start. Feels like a rough shudder... then disappears when the vehicle is warm.

I just had the 1000km service/check done and queried with the service manager. He suggested to start the car and let it run for 15 seconds while the oil pressure in the transmission builds up. I'd be keen to hear what other owners are suggested though.

    Cheers!

  6. OK, I just measured the rear sensors on our KX-R and these are the figures.

Measuring from centre of bumper outwards (and to "centre" of each sensor):

Far Left - 635mm from ground, 745mm from centre of bumper

Mid-Left - 640mm from ground, 245mm from centre of bumper

Mid right - same as mid-left, but in opposite direction

Far Right - same as far-right, but in opposite direction

Note: fuel tank is about half way between 1/2 & 3/4 mark on petrol gauge, which may make a slight difference to bumper/sensor heights if you have a different petrol level in your tank.

Also, I measured the front two sensors as well and they are both located directly in front of (and centered with), where the fog lights would be/are - if you are looking directly at the car from "front-on".....and are both 615mm from ground (to centre of sensor).

    Hope this is helpful.

    Cheers,

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

Do you mind measuring the distance from the fold line on the bumper (just below the sensor) up to the sensor for me.

Measuring from the ground up has too great a tolerance for me. I've tired different surfaces, fuel levels etc and I just can't get an even reading on both sides - seems to be a difference of about 8 - 10mm from left to right. Actually looking at the vehicle from the rear it seems to sit higher on the left than the right - the same as the measurements show.

    Thanks!

  7. Thanks SpeedRacer, the set I have is for a Mazda 6 too! Picked it up from ebay.

I like your idea about the speaker location, although a little unsure about removing too much of the interior. Was this a problem or were you able to squeeze the wire between the interior trim and the carpet.

Any tips for the connection to the reverse lights? Did you choose a particular side? Also, do you remember the wire colours you connected up to? I'm sure once I pull it all apart it will make sense.

Thanks Dave, appreciate you taking a look.

  8. acorn, all I've got is the Owner's Manual which says nothing about how to install them other than "It is recommended that this product is installed by your Toyota Dealer".

    Sorry.

Thanks for looking BigBad64. Does it mention or depict the location of the speaker at all?

    Cheers!

  9. Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has a copy of the rear parking sensor install manual that they can share.

I'm just about to install some aftermarket rear sensors and wouldn't mind knowing how Toyota likes to do it from the factory/dealer. I've found the front sensor install in a previous thread but no luck with the rears.

    Thanks in advance!

  10. I order the switch from Toyota and the FlyAudio System from EasyPark earlier this week. :D

Once the switch arrives (and it is the right one) I will arrange and take photos of the install process.

    Hi Hado,

Have you received the FlyAudio unit yet or is it still on order? Please let us know your thoughts on the unit, quality etc.

Also, how long did Toyota say the switch would take to arrive?

  11. My unit has two seperate ports . on left plays but on the right it is only dedicated for gps card. It comes up error fail to load.

    cheers all

    Hi terminator1,

Just a thought with your GPS issues - from your previous post it sounds as though you have the Caska style unit with two SD ports at the bottom of the unit. Did the supplier of your unit provide you with a demo or trial GPS software? If they did, and if this software at least loads, then you may need to follow the same file structure. If there is a startup file (startup.txt, system.ini or something similar) then you will need to copy this to the root folder of your SD card and with a text editor change the startup file to direct it to the correct program file.

    Hopefully that makes sense :)

Good luck and look forward to seeing the photos of your install! ...including the headrest monitors!!

  12. Hi terminator1, congratulations on the purchase. Hope you can get the issues sorted...

Is the GPS issue a problem with the software or is the actual reader not reading the card? Have you tried putting some mp3 files on the card and playing these? I don't have the unit yet but believe the latest firmware (V4 I think) will play mp3s installed on the GPS card. What GPS software are you trying?

Also do you mind sharing the part number for the hazard switch, and the price you paid. Was the hazard switch install a simple plug swap or did it require more?

    Cheers!

  13. Thanks for the welcome guys!

I too am considering a purchase of this unit and agree that there are some definite unknowns. There's quite a bit of info around about the Flyaudio units, particularly with the Mazda crowd, and most reports seem pretty good. Hopefully this is the same with the highlander/kluger unit. Getting the hazard switch sorted is a major issue though...

Ham, I applaud you on your pioneering ways! Keep us posted!

  14. Hi Ham,

First post on these forums but I've been browsing for quite some time.

Anyway, have you checked out the install document on the Flyaudio website. It's a bit slow to download but does give some reasonable detail on the install, particularly how to remove the fascia panels. Also seems to show how to splice into and connect the factory camera up to display on the headunit - although I'd approach this with a bit of caution as there is quite a bit a talk about the camera requiring a 6V supply.

I'm keen to hear how your install goes though and your thoughts on the unit.

    Cheers!
