  1. FYI guys if you're looking to ruin the look of your Aurion, there appears to be a company here in lil ol'brissie that will be happy to help.

    www.bodykitskingdom.com.au

Hrmm i see they have made a carbon fibre TRD style grill. $180 aye.

I wonder if thats worth it compared to buying it over in Thailand. What u rekon?

  2. I see you're still sporting your drag entrant number on your Aurion there Chris . Come on, I know you are still around and everyone is waiting impatiently.

    What's the news?

Edit: I'm going to be really naughty... great time though Chris. Would love to see some timeslips to see how it all tied together. That looks like a 14.14s pass with what appears to be some wheelspin. Looks like you have modded it good.

...but holy sh!t could it do a burnout!

    DSCF3042.jpg

    Nah man.. thats a 14.74

DJKOR!!! WOW man u did a 13.3... well done!!! how did u manage to remove 0.4secs from ur previous runs??

    Congratulations man.

  3. Dang i just watched that!! Its using the 2GR-FE engine with 200kw like the Aurions but 250kg lighter than the ZR6 and does 0-100 in 5.1secs. Its also rear wheel drive and manual. Nice work.

Damn, now I want to shed 250KG from my Aurion and convert it to RWD :P

LOL yeah me too!! But dont forget our cars arent really sport cars.. Such a shame aye.. and our transmission setup restricts us to a certain power. Why Toyota!! Why!! Haha if our cars were RWD oh my!! how much more fun..

    +1 million.

If these Aurions came in RWD package I wonder what the Holden and Ford boys would be picking on then? It's annoying because some guy on the street few days ago said (not joking here), nice car, those Aurions are punchy for a FWD!

AHHHH! As soon as they think FWD they think slow and crap.

Im sure if those Holden and Ford boys had a FWD setup in their car, they would just be doing burnouts instead of moving off the start line. Haha. If our cars were RWD and even in manual we would blow them away, plus their cars hav atleast 60kw more than we do... So i dont know how they can give us ****

That is true. I see way too many bogans in there RWD flat sticking the cars at the lights like some chump today in his yellow monaro. He hit the accelerator so damn hard at the lights it sounded like a freight train(was trying to race a ford). Poor engine :(

LOL. Something i havent seen in ages... A Holden vs Ford haha!! Man... one day, hopefully i have money... then i can beat some Fords and Holdens in a race, but having a 14second car isnt fast enough..

  6. Dude, i'm in Perth also and have a SX6.

I've also been looking at some of the cheap TRD's around the place too. Big thing to keep in mind is that i have found all the cheap one's have been in a smash. A red one i looked at a while ago - they said was cheap because of high KM's. That was bull. The bonnet didn't line up, there was damage on the under side of the drivers side skirt and the drivers door didn't line up.

Repairs are hard to spot some times but why sell a $40K + car for under $36K or so. I opted to keep mine too cos i have the factory extended warranty plus no prangs.

The silver one you're talking about is a a dodgy wholesale yard too. Why do they have it? Repo maybe? If you're lucky.

Good luck to you tho. Hope you find a good one.

Wow i had no idea aye!! Thanks for the heads up tho!! Looks like i hav to be careful if i go looking for one.

  7. No offence to anyone but an exhaust system on the aurion excluding rear mufflers/ y-pipe is just useless...

Aurions are very touchy.. And if u want serious gains, ur gonna have to do custom headers, manifolds, ecu blah blah and then a full exhaust system.

Dont forget... Aurions are family cars!!! Hahaha

Ive got rear mufflers on mine and a custom y-pipe and i tell u, the y-pipe doesnt give much of a gain at all...

  8. Thanks for your input mate. Too bad no one has actually done up their TRD for others to know of.

The thing is, ive got my rear 2.5inch magnaflow mufflers from my ZR6 and also im gonna give my brother my y-pipe in exchange for his stock y-pipe

So if my rear mufflers can fit on the TRD then it would be nice to put them to good use.

Im still in the process of deciding which car to get for 36k budget tho...

TRD is first on the list, but also looking around at Subaru Liberty's and Impreza ect...

But at the end of the day i want looks, comfort (leather seats :D) and power (which is why TRD is winning)

I dont know if i want to buy a turbocharged car tho... Maintenance wise is gonna cost alot, but then again a TRD has a supercharger... So i wonder wat the maintenance cost of that will be?? Hahaha the 98octane on the TRD is gonna cost more than our normal 95... but oh well

  9. Hi guys to start off my budget is about 36k and im here in Perth (WA)

    I hav found a 33k 3500S TRD (Red) and hav found a 3500SL (Silver) for 36k

Altho i have heard that a TRD is capable of a 13.8sec 1/4 mile does anybody know of which mods that are available for the TRD??

I havent heard of anybody modifying their TRD.

Plus.. Can u add on rear mufflers for this car? Coz that rear bumper seems like it gets in the way...

At the same time im looking at other cars too!! But i cant make up my mind...

The reason why i want a Aurion or a TRD is becoz for 36k it has looks, comfort and power (1/4 power)

Ive been looking at Subaru's but still cant make up my mind

Sorry for the 100 questions but i need abit of advice from others

    Cheers,

    Peter

hey.. do you drive a black zr6?? with plastic number plates?.... and go to uwa? if so nice car!

Haha yeah my plates say ZRSHIFT and thanks!!

  11. Oh my... Nice ride buddy!!! Hahaha!!! Im also looking at getting a TRD as well. But i havent made up my mind yet... Has anybody know of anyone who has modified their stock TRD? I cant seem to find a thread that has anybody saying that their TRD has been modified.

    Cheers,

    Peter

  12. I'm out of town so I don't have all my time slips on me (something like 15-20 of them), but from memory, all my runs that were under 14.5 seconds had a 60ft time of 2.300 or below. This isn't an exact indication, but it shows where fractions of a second can make a difference.

Yes u are right. And launching the car correctly also gives u a good 60ft time and also the finishing time.

Well done mate i have to say, u are one awesome driver especially at launching ur car, i would love to hav gotten atleast a 14.5 but i havent spent anytime to launch and work on the foot work.

  13. It seems you were paying attention to getting a good reaction time. Remember that when you are aiming to get the best time down the 1/4 mile (showing which car is faster), then you don't have to factor in reaction time. Remember, the clock doesn't start till you leave the starting line. Let the light go green while you focus on getting your launch right. It can make a huge difference. So what if your opponent crosses the finish line first. You can then compare your ET's and see who has the lower one.

Here's a fun fact as well with respect to reaction times. Depending on the regulations your dragway uses, a perfect reaction time would be 0.400 seconds (can be 0.500 with a 5 tenths tree, but it would more likely be the 4 tenths tree). The reason for this is because the reaction time is timed from the last yellow light. The green light is lit up 0.400 seconds after the last yellow light, and therefore, getting a reaction time of 0.400 indicates that you left the line right on the green light. A reaction time any lower means you left the line early.

Some newer regulations with newer electronic systems now mean that they can time your reaction time from the green light. This also makes it easier to understand for spectators. I'm not aware of how widespread this system is though, so there is a good chance that they are using the 4 tenths tree.

Just letting you know in case you ever want to start paying attention to that as well.

Edit: Just had a look at Perth Motorplex (if that's the one you used). Turns out the reaction times start from the green light so therefore the closest to 0.000, the better.

You are definetely right about focusing on the launching part. I know how the reaction times work, reaction doesnt matter.

I just wasnt concentratiing enough to vary which rpm launch and how heavy my foot would be at launch time.

I got fed up after 6 races getting such poor times, and just went home on the 7th. Haha doesnt matter atleast i know wat my first time went.

Oh by the way it was the Perth Motorplex

  14. The best way to know how good a launch you did is to check the 60 foot times. If it is around 2.5 seconds or less you will probably get a low 14 second 400m time in an Aurion.

Im not too sure about ur quote mate. I had 7 races all varied between 14.8 and 14.9 and one run at 14.7

These are my 60 ft times: 2.481 (14.847)

    2.557 (14.964)

    2.508 (14.930)

    2.481 (14.823)

    2.512 (14.874)

    2.582 (14.962)

    2.469 (14.794)

  15. Oh, so all ur trying to say is that put it in s mode and shift up to 6th gear and then take off at the start line in 6th gear right??

Thats all i was asking, i was just asking the steps into taking off at the start line in which gear thats all.

yeah, kinda... but you need to get your head around the fact that you're not actually starting off in "6th gear"...

whatever number is shown on the dash, you're LIMITED to that gear and below... so if its showing "1" on the dash, then it'll stay in 1st for as long as you want... but if its showing "3", it'll change from 1 to 2 to 3 and then stay in 3rd for as long as you want...

in saying that, it WILL down shift if you put your foot flat to the floor...

i think ive said enough now... im just repeating myself i think... seriously, take the car for a drive and play with the gear shifting... you'll soon understand what its doing... :)

Sorry mate, i actually understand, but i guess i didnt say that i did.

Basically if ur car is in s mode and in 6th gear and wen u floor it, it will begin in 1st then 2nd and so on.

The only question i was trying to get for the past 2hrs... Lols was wat selected gear will display on screen? YES!! i think i just asked the correct question worded correctly.

Hahaha im so sorry for confusing everyone with the wrong worded questions.

    LOLS!!

  16. did you read what DJKOR posted above about how the gearbox works? or did you just gloss over it?

when you put it in "S" mode, the number "4" will come on the dash... right?

up shift twice and you'll see the number go to "5" and then "6"...

the point of doing this (im guessing, as its different to what i do!), is that once you go past the finish line and have taken your foot off the gas, the gearbox will return to 'normal' and shift automatically into 6 and just cruise along...

i dont bother with this, as i usually downshift once i've gone over the finish line so that the engine brakeing helps me stop... so the car never gets a chance to shift up into 5th or 6th... (as djkor said, you'll cross the line in 4th)

in really really basic terms, the gearbox works like this:

when the dash shows "4", the car will start in 1st, then change to 2nd as needed, and then change to 3rd as needed and then finally to 4th as needed.

if the dash showed "2", then the car will start in 1st gear and then change to 2nd gear as needed and then it WILL NOT change up to 3rd when its needed... instead it will just bounce off the rev limiter...

    hopefully this will make sense...

if you cant get your head around it, go for a drive and test it out... you'll soon realise what we're talking about... :)

Oh, so all ur trying to say is that put it in s mode and shift up to 6th gear and then take off at the start line in 6th gear right??

Thats all i was asking, i was just asking the steps into taking off at the start line in which gear thats all.

  17. DJKOR mentioned that i wasnt going to take off in 6th gear. So im guessing take off in a diff gear and the upshift twice??

If the run ends up u being in 4th gear, then why dont i just go down the strip in 4th gear instead of 6th?

So confusing this 6th gear thing, to me it sounds like u are in 6th gear but the car naturally takes off starting at 1 then 2,3,4 so on.

    Oh dear.

I think for you, you are best of leaving it in 'D'. For what it's worth, putting it into 'S' will not benefit you at this point in time.

Lol i know i know, i dont know much about cars in detail nor about the drag strip. So i ask heaps of questions.

    Sorry.

  18. put it into "S" mode and then up shift twice so you're in "6"...

roll up to the start line...

put your left foot HARD on the brake (otherwise you'll creep forward)

put your right foot on the gas and bring the revs up to 1500rpm (well, the exact rpm depends on what you find best. too high and you'll wheel spin, too low and you'll bog down off the line)

when the light goes green lift your foot off the brake and mash your right foot flat to the floor (again, depends on what you find best. if i mash my foot to the floor, i just wheelspin/axle tramp. so i just feed the power on in a smooth movement)

hold you foot flat to the floor until you've gone past the finish line and then brake hard so you dont go off at the end of the track!

thats the basic jist of things... but you really need to test out your own car and see what works best for your car and tyres...

also, dont expect to get your best time on the first run or even the first night out... it might take you some time to get used to it... :)

  19. Wow leaving it S mode and 6th gear? Really? Why not like 4th or something?? thats something really interesting i never heard of. That means leaving it in 6th it would be kinda hard to wheelspin at the beginning of the race.

You surely can't be thinking that by having it in 6, that the car will be taking off in 6th gear? Have you ever tried to take off on a high gear on a manual car? You should really read what 'S' mode is all about.

Sorry to spoil everyones fun but all the manual shift mode is for is to change the available gears. I looked into it a while ago and after decrypting the owners manual explanation it works like this.

Shifting from D to "Manual mode" manually changes the gears available to the gearbox. So if you select 3rd gear - the car will only use gears one through three. Or if you select 5th gear the car will only use gears from one through five, etc etc...

The manual shift mode is more to assist with gear selection in heavy/slow traffic (use 4th gear to use gears one through four to provide better respose at slow speeds) or engine braking on downhill stretches. It's only other practical use is for towing.

The crap part is that the manual shift option is nothing more than a modern version of an overdrive selector. But instead of having a 3 speed auto with 4th gear overdrive on a switch, you can select any of the 6 gears. Nothing more...

That's why the car still up and down shifts when it dam well pleases. Even though you think you've selected a single gear, you've only narrowed the cars options.

Leaving it on 6 enables you to utilise all gears, but when going down the 1/4 mile, you only get up to 4th anyways, but you may as well leave it on 6th because it makes no difference.

Okay this sounds good, so wat will i do at the start line? How should i launch and then be in 6th gear? Launch in drive?

Please explain haha im so noob at drags

  20. What u mean let my transmission do the gear changing? Wouldnt i be using s mode. My trap speed should hit the end of 3rd (160km) or thereabouts, thats wat i rekon anyways

I recommend leaving it in 'S' mode with 6th selected. This way the transmission will do all the shifting for you. Personally I have found this to yield the best results, but feel free to do the shifting yourself. You will learn a thing or two about it then.

As for your trap speed, you should be aiming for 99.29mph (159.80km/h) or higher :P

BTW, when you get to that speed, you will be in 4th.

Wow leaving it S mode and 6th gear? Really? Why not like 4th or something?? thats something really interesting i never heard of. That means leaving it in 6th it would be kinda hard to wheelspin at the beginning of the race.
