    if so where did u get this from and how much did u pay?

    does it make a a fair difference to power output?

    They probably look good when you open the hood.

    Engine will sound more throatier.

    Prone to sucking hot engine bay heat = loss of power

    CAI is the way to go......Kit or DIY

    My DIY see cardomain link...heh the cheaper, maybe just affective option.

    I just bought a brand new Toyota Camry Grande for $42500 drive away, with Rear parking Sensors and Window tint at Peter Warrens Toyota's in at Warwick Farm Sydney, So I was wondering do you guys think this is a good deal?

    Sounds as if you had paid pretty close to retail rrp $39,900 +(sensors&Tint)+ orc

    Personally, We did not get crash hot service from Peter Warren Toyota.

    Clintons at Narellan came threw with the goods!

  3. Gun metal grey...not too showy...cant think of seeing many cars this colour. Would make alloys standout more.

    What perth camry suggests also...tho they cost a fair bit.

    Yeah...black looks good... heh....not fun in the summer tho

  4. Those mirrors look too chunky.

    The door handles look cheap..(ie..from a $2 shop)..I wonder how long the chrome will last unttil it starts flaking.

    Better of replacing these items than adding "stick-on" objects.

  5. Hi everyone, i was just looking at random sites on the net and came across this one..quite interesting. Anyway i decided to register since i have a Sportivo V6. Not too many mods..just a 12inch MTX sledgehammer sub, xenon headlights and red plates. Also got it tinted a bit darker. Anyway i was just wondering what are the cheapest mods i can do to gain around 20kW because i get beaten by all my friend's falcons and commodores :( . Thanks and nice to meet you all.

    Welcome to the forums...

    Cheap mods wont get you that much power......around an extra 10-12 at the most. (CAI , Exhaust, chipped and lowered (to minimise front wheel spin/lift)).

    A sportivo realistally wont beat a modern commodore of falcon....with drivers of equal ability...

    Being rear wheel drive and having extra cc's and Hp under the bonet .

    Even a high powered front wheel drive camry will be slipping everywhere.....and what stops them from doing the same mods as you.....dont give up effort tho :)

    Camrys in general are just more reliable....ie no gearbox / mechanical probs hehe

  6. i agree but if it is such a problem find a spot where it is isloated and that way u won't have anything happen. I work in a shopping centre so the car park is always changing with cars. I park my car right at the back away from all the traffic. I have an alarm and insurance. But the last thing i want is parking my car close and having some little poofter scratching my ride when all i ahve to do is walk a few more mins.

    I always find when I park far from the shops, I always return to see a rusted kingswood or the like parked next to ya..even tho plenty of spots are still available to play with.

    When I look for parking spots within a crowded carpark I search for the following ...it comes down to a fine art :)

    - wide spaces ....the obvious

    - columns..to park close to

    - walls...use them

    - never park on end spaces

    - look for new clean cars

    - stay clear of cars with baby seats within

    - park on the passengers side of contractors utes (usually only the driver uses it w/no passengers)

    - dont park opposite/next to trolley return bays

    - never park on a slope/ramp...if so make sure your on the higher side

    if all else fails....it does not hurt to get a bit of exercise

    Its really #@%! when ppl have no respect for other ppls property

    Yeah.... I believe this helps with the response of the engine. Definately better than the original engine bay breathing intake..

    I have drilled holes in the airbox (ie swiss cheese.......9-12, 8mm holes) in my previous car.....naturally done on the dirty underside of the air box with a K&N panel filter. If your not happy with the response from this you can fill the holes back up with silicon. This gives a good aspirated growling sound. You could also point a cold air feed to the intake mixture.

    I dont believe that too much thought went into the air intake for the camry. They could at least could have designed some type of funnel behind the housing of one of the headlights at least.

    They probably did this to prolong the life of the paper air filter....

    Paper Filters ......cheap and nasty ...needs annual replacement does not breath as well

    Foam Filters .....breaths a bit better ....has a turbulance of air ...not a good flow ...plus difficult to clean (look good only when new)

    Oiled/Mesh filters.....just cant go past one of these.. I personnaly prefer the panel ....If using the pod (will need a heat shield)....re-usable too!

    with the king springs

    did you go for lows or super lows?

    any1 fitted super lows to the GEN5?

    if so hows the ride height and quality?

    Grab out a ruler or tape measure man and measure your current tyre to guard gaps. Subtract 35mm from that and gauge it. Then try 50mm. That'll give you a rough idea. 50mm is fine I'm sure though. No scrubbing. Unless you went 65mm drop with Lovells Super Lows which are the lowest spring you can get to my knowledge, you may scrub then.

    35mm drop won't bottom out. 50mm won't bottom out too much. Thing is, the shocks will wear out a little faster over time now due to the added stress they are under. However when that happens just grab some Koni shocks or something ;)

    I probably would guess if your contemplating in dropping more than 35-40mm, you would have to change your shocks at the same time.

    Theres a settling period with springs....(especially the lower quality)..If going the greater drop....better getting the combo first time......dont want a 'bouncy bouncy' ride

    My previous car had H&R(German) springs 35mm drop ....highly recommended.....

  9. I've stuck with the original box with the K&N panel filter.

    I found that two air boxes exist...1 upper (with panel) and a lower one.

    Inquisitive as I am, I cut a hole in the underside of the lower box wiith a hand angle grinder

    ......took the snorkel from the top and fixed it below (wire used to hold it in position).. (taped up where the snorkel was previously attached)....

    ...heh...grabbed a plastic smiths chips tube (similar to a pringles packet)...cut to shape and clipped into position....so virtually no extra weight was added to the car.........wulah.

    just wondering what u think about this...

    i was doing about 40kmh just entering sydney cbd on george st coming from broadway when i slammed on the brakes and guess what...the front wheels LOCKED!!!

    because of this my 2005 sportivo skidded and i almost crashed into the car in front of me

    dealership: "we can't fault the abs and we'll just have to keep an eye on it"

    your thoughts would be much appreciated....

    Maybe something to do with the speed.......at 40km.

    .....its not exactly a speed where you would need ABS to avoid a colision.

    Maybe it did work and you were too focused on the screatching tyres....(ie under panic state of mind).

    Try locking up at a greater spead in an quiet street/industrial area......you should feel a shuddering feeling on the steering wheel.

  11. The service people tell me the front suspension support bearings have failed and they are causing the clonks I have complained about. The car has less than 80,000kms on it. Is this a problem with this model? Will it recur?

    We tend to get this "clonk noise" every now and then...especially turning reasonably sharp when leaving our driveway (at low speeds of course). Our car has 15k on the clock.

    Im interested if this is the norm or not.

    the only let down is the 4cyc engine. Why didnt they put the VVTL-i engine in? 4cyc on a 1,500kg cars not a good idea in my opinion. (imagine having a full load on the camry :lol::lol: )

    well.....I reckon Toyota should put a TURBO B)

    Australia always seem to have all the scraps/old components/engines with cars......thats what we get for having a smaller car market.

    The mass is around 1460kgs ( the naked model ) 1495kg (sportivo) 1530kg (Grande)

    NB: this is intended to be a family car....so family weights should be considered.

    A quick math... lol

    Does not include:

    Full tank of fuel 70Ltrs ~ (70)kgs

    Avg weight of 1 adult ~ 80kgs say 2 Adults (160Kgs)

    Luggage (groceries/stroller) etc etc....say 15Kgs....[TOT. ~1705kgs ].....poor motor will be outa breath

    For the more upmarket..........more weight is added onto the same engine *shakes his head*

    ...they could at least tweek the engine on the higher models..... Sportivo by looks... not by nature.

  13. What is the go with LPG? I know taxis etc use it but is it something that is worth looking at for a 4cyl ('03) Camry? Is it a wasted effort on a 4cyl motor? is there a change in power etc?

    Add more weight to your car.

    An ugly plug exposed on the quarter panel. (choice of yellow or black cap)

    Not a lubricated fuel....roots the motor if not continuously switching fuel types at specific increments.

    Another service to add to your list.

    A little red sticker on your personalised No. plates

    Risk....(unknown saftey if leak or within an accident)

    I believe there is a drop in power.....dont quote me tho (definately no increase)

    Seems to be some reason why car maufacturers stay clear of it.

  14. Not much different to the Gen 5 2.4 Ltr....got an extra gear on Auto/ Grade logic / and EBD.

    The specs seem to focused on little things ----who cares about?? cigarete lighter and ash tray , fuel cap holder ......whoopty doo! ....just a bit overated for expected equipment for my liking.

    2.4 seems a bit underpowered for the mass........fuel economy better with a smaller harder working motor?......or oversized underworking motor?

    Pitty it does not come out with a tricked up VVTi 2.7Ltr Hilux motor

    Tho I'm interested in the 3.5Ltr V6

    Finally after 4hrs of hard work, I managed to put them all together.

    last year i bought the HALO Headlights for the GEN 4.5 but since then it was sitting in the box.

    So what I did today, swapped the Lens from the GEN 4.5 HALO with my Stock Headlight.

    looks so nice now...... i'm going to get HIDs Kit in couple of weeks.

    What do you guys think??? (havent tried them at night though)

    They look great.........looks a more serious car....

  16. im not entirely sure why that chamber thing is there either...

    but i know that all the snorkel pipes connected to it, are intake pipes, the one behind the foglight and the one next to the battery, are all taking air in ;)

    these pipes probably could be repositioned better i guess :rolleyes:

    From what i've seen in my Camry. The Snorkel intake goes in > splits into two > the top opens at high RPMs by ACIS or some vacuum thing > the bottom goes to a vacuum box or this white box > filter > into TB. It only takes in air from one place which is the snorkel.

    I've had a closer look at the box....unclipping the undercarrage cover. It seems to be a chamber maybe to hold cooler air ....ie an air pocket reserve.

    The snorkel seems to be the main and only intake....from observations below and above(with torch)..........guess I know where to tap into the air box :D

    First off I'm new here, but hope to be posting quite a bit, and helping out where I can.

    Just wondering if any of you have had any problems with the paint jobs on your car?

    Reason being, I own the first Black 2004 Camry Sportivo (back when I bought it in 2004, other than the black Sportivo they had at the motor show that year! So it was quite the head turner at the time I had it before the others came out!!! ;o) ), and am not totally happy with the paint on the car.

    Just wanted to hear from any other black sportivo owners?.. cause I seen the pics and they look awsome (as mine does after it's had a good wash and a wax), but just wanted to know overall.

    Mines not Black....is the car garaged?......I know when the morning sun hits the morning dew on cars this kills the duco

  18. I would like to know what everyone else's camry's rev at when sitting on 110km/h on the highway in top gear. Mine is a 96 vienta, 5 speed and it sits on a rather high 3,000 RPM at 110. i didn't think it would sit that high being 1, a V6 and 2. a manual.

    The Final gear ratio on my V6 is 0.735:1 at 110km/Hr = 2500rpm

    Your Final gear ration for yours is 0.820:1 at 110km/Hr = ~2800rpm (calculated)

  19. if you decide to stick with the standard airbox, remove everything before it and run some 3" piping from its inlet to fresh air outfront.

    but you newer cars have snorkels already.

    Personally the air intake snorkel in the current V6 version is crap. It sits upright cliped in a tight corner looking at the headlight. [maybe its another way for Toyota in de-tuning there engines for greater reliability??] Just open the hood after a reasonble run to find out the amount of heat it must be sucking in(even tho it is laten heat). I agree with TSR by channeling the flow of cool air directly into the lower airbox. And cealing any other vents that may prevent engine bay heat. The K&N filters have a high resistance to moisture if your worried about the airflow containing water fragments on wet days.

    I will be changing the paper air filter to a K&N panel.......and maybe altering the collection of air. Looking at the existing snorkel it also channels to a chamber in the guard behind the fog lamp.

    Is air being collected from this chamber....and maybe the hot air comes out of the snorkel....or both?

    Can anyone enlighten me on these split pipes before the main intake?

  21. I believe the pre-owned car market has totally changed.

    Since more major car company employees are recieving a car as part of there salary pakage...the market is becomming flooded with cars mainly (fords,holdens,toyota's and Mitsubishi's).

    12 - 14 months old with under 15000k's and selling between $10-14,000 off the new car price.

    They are still under the original manufacturers warranty plus an additional 3years from some dealers. The prices displayed in the yards mean nothing!.....you can haggle and get between $2000 to $3500 off there advertised price depending on the milledge, log book services, condion and obviously how long it has been sitting in the yard.

    I used to be a new car purchaser......but being able to pick up a V6 04 Spec 11 sportivo with only 10k on the clock for the price of a 04 2.4Ltr with an average 30k...has changed my view

    It definately shows that it is a buyers market. :D

    just wondering whether a K&N panel filter for a V6 camry sportivo will make any difference at all? and how much it costs.

    I'm thinking of just purchasing a panel filter to fit into existing box. I have heard there is a marginal increase in power and better fuel economy, and of course re-usable.....I think pods are overated....especially inducted ones since the concentration of air flow is to on portion of the filter and the other side is exposed to engine bay heat.

    thats my opinion.
