  1. to put it simply, your rotors are warped, hence the steering wheel shudders.

toyota used to replace them under warranty, as some of the other members have had it done, but not anymore, as they now scream 'its a consumable'.

i took mine in, and they machined the rotors, (take about 1/4 of a mm off to smooth it out) and the problem is gone.

the guy out there told me, 'this is not officially documented, but its been said that the South African spec rollas rotors are of poorer quality than that of the Jap spec' he also said quite a few rollas were coming in, having only done 20,000km's but eating thru brake pads like no tomorrow, due to the rotors being warped. he mentioned too, that he thought it was very unfair that they are not replaced under warranty, because they are **** rotors in the first place.

he also told me, ether i change my driving style, or be prepared for more warped rotors  . i guess the best thing u can do is, (dont quote me) make sure u warm up the brakes before u start braking hard, as sudden temperature change tends to contribute to the rotors warping.

  2. hi, wanted to ask everyone, how hard do you drive your cars? how often are u in lift?

im asking because, ive never experienced a crunch before, the car always slots nicely into gear (expect down shifting, sometimes gets stuck and needs to go into neutral b4 hand, but no crunch)

ive clocked 19,000km's, and reading all these threads about crunching gears makes me thankful that i havent had it happen. today on the way home i did 1->2->3 changing at 8000rpm with no dramas, altho the gas was not depressed max at all times.

i do drive my car fast, day to day changes occur at 4500-5500, i hardly rev up and launch monster hard at the lights, but prefer to get the car moving along abit before giving it gas to rev up to lift on long straights or out of corners, pulling away in 2nd/3rd.

im wondering if driving the car hard, brings out/worsens the gear problem. has anyone who drives there car abit more timidly experienced the crunching problem?

  3. look at it this way people,

e-gene is a moderator, yet yet no one feels any sort of negativity towards him.

shaohaok has one of the most heavily modd'ed cars on this forum, yet no one feels any sort of negativity towards him.

kcorro is the most helpful member, when it comes to sourcing parts, info etc, and there is no negativity towards him.

so when it boils down to its not any of these reasons

    - the mods on your car

    - your status moderator or not

    - how much info and parts u can source

what is it? some people are just a-holes with attitude problems, simple as that.

  4. ok this is wot i rekon,

if its insured under your dads name, then ether get him to ring up and add the kit to the policy, or get his date of birth and impersonate him, thats wot i do, due to language barriers.

in regards to if u can do it, or cant, if its under your dads name, they wont say no they will just raise your yearly premium in most cases, as the new KIT will raise the value of the car. when they ask u how much the parts are worth, the less u quote them, the less the premium increase, BUT if u do have an accident, u will only get wot u said it was worth. when i rang up about my CAI, i told them it was worth $80, and my premium didnt change. i think comesmetic mods are more favoured by insurance companies than performance.

also, most insurance companies, even if you arent listed as a primary/secondary driver, if u stack your car, it will still be covered, but u just have to pay more excess to claim, eg $1000.

i am currently insured under my mums name, not listed as a driver, for $660, if i have an accident, i think its abit over $1000 to lodge a claim. i am tho, listed as a driver on my dads old 626, to increase my rating, when i get 1, ill ensure the stivo myself, ill be over 25 by then.

** disclaimer, the above is based on my understanding, best bet is to ring up your insurer if u have any doubts

  5. i just had my car serviced, and i must say, it feels like new. its probably 60% of the power increase the CAI gave me, alot more better throttle response down low, feels alot more nippy and less effort. i think combined with the CAI, it would be awesome, cuz the CAI added alot 3-6k rpm.

no recall work on the gearbox/selectors, but they had a fiddle with the clutch/cables etc, and the gearbox feels brand new slots right in, clutch pedal is nice and firm, the car was starting to feel really sloppy and ugly, handling, and both gearbox and clutch pre-service.

    wot they did was

    oil filter

    gskt oil drain

    brake clean

    fuel system cleaner

    oil system cleaner

    replace aircap & ECU

booked me in for a new seat cushion

    wheel balance+ rotate

the suspension feels great now, and the car no longer pulls to the left, woopee!

  6. welcome MM|key!

glad to see you made it to the forum! your going to have to private message

'E-gene' about the address, as he was the one who got them, or wait for him to come online, tho i doubt he has much time to spend with his white rocket or the forum, most likely too busy making coffees and serving delicious cakes! (if your readin this e-gene hope its all going well and we get to visit soon)

i think others on the forum may know where u could source them locally ;)

  7. wow! awesome.

off the topic read an article in motor mag lotus exige vs porche 911 (i think)

for those of u who dont already know, the lotus has borrowed our 2zz-ge powerplant  and runs an impressive 0-100 in 5.2 it weighs like 850 kg's!!!! tho at its price (approx $100,000), u could buy 3 stivos and then some! or for another 20 grand or so, u could get the porche.

  8. hey cool link bill!

if u click on CHOOSE MODEL, choose the Rsi model, a little java thing comes up on the side, click it, and u can virtually rev a 2zz-ge, and watch as this graph gets plotted out.

for those of u who havent bounced the limiter heres your chance!!! it makes 190nm? hmmmmmmm

  9. twice today, while driving in peak hour, i tried to down shift from 3rd to 2nd, to get that quick burst of speed to duck into a gap in another lane, and both times it wouldnt go in!

ive decided no more down shifts like that, gets abit dangerous especially if u get stuck and you move too slow and get collected by another car. a technique to get around it is to shift into neutral first, then clutch again, into 2nd, but that takes too much time.

  10. sporthatch141 lucky u, your servicing guys are moving fast, i just rang up to schedule my 12 month service, wanting to get the recall done at the same time (save me a trip down there) and they said that they cant do it, until the letters get sent out, so i'm going to put off my service until that happens.

also, do u guys bring your own oil to them? i'm not sure exactly wot vvtli oil is, thats wot they put in last time, wot do u recommend i do? and wot oil should i buy/request. thanks in advanced!
