just recently bought a new levin zr with nearly 1000 kms approaching. i noticed the service sticker states a 1000 km service. reading the service manual, the first service is at 10000kms. maybe this 1000 km service is just a complimentary inspection.

anybody have any thoughts on this. plus what oil would you use for the next service.

In my car, I cannot turn on the heater without the windows fogging up. Every time I want to turn on the heater the windows start fogging up. What can I do about this?

Few nights its been really cold in Melbourne, and I can't even turn on my cars heater because the windows fog up. I think maybe if I leave it long enough the heat might unfog the windows but it just gets worse which then I have to turn on the aircon and then I'm freezing my butt off in the car.

Also, when I swap between heater and aircon, during the first few seconds its a very musty, damp smell... Would this be causing the windows to fog up when turning on the heater?

Ever since I got my car I have not been able to use the heater properly because my windows fog up. I even spent like $50 on a new aircon filter from Toyota few weeks ago.

edit: I should also say I always drive with the car with the arrow inside of it on. So the light is always on.

are you checking the radiator for water - regularly topping it up because you could have an issue with you heater core leaking

for a day now the red "charge" light on my car dash board has lit up. im wondering what could be the cause. the battery is only a year old and i tried leaving the engine on for about 20minutes (so the battery can recharge) for several occasions but the red "charge" light still stays on. thanks

note i drive a stock 1989 camry.

alternator is the problem, not charging your battery

No they didnt test it, because they said it was fine, but i have cleaned it and seen no improvement, i have also checked the resistance of it and it checked out at the right ohms according to my service manual. tomorrow i will ask a guy at tech who has the 3RZ-FE in his car, if i can swapp the MAF and go for a drive to see if it improves, if not and he's car goes fine then i think we can rule out the MAF. Also i forgot to mention this earlier, when i changed the spark plugs, i looked down into the pistons, all of them has a dark brown rly rough surface on them, like a very course sand paper, the intake manifold and throttle valve was full of carbon build up.

did you get your injectors cleaned - follow that up

Couple of guys at work checked it out, they removed the floor mat and said it was fine. But i disagree it still doesnt sound right to me-when i first bought it and it didnt have floor mats, a mechanic with over 40yrs experience looked at it and said it has hesitation.

hey ive noticed this for a while but cant seem to figure it out. If im driving with the aircon on and drive the car hard (close to red line) i can small a subtle burning smell can only smell it when acs on. any one know what it could be? burning tranny?

that sounds like your starter motor not disengaging properly

i have in the past on other cars mind you cleaned the pinion gear and lubricated it and worked

thanks top gun. the corolla is currently at the dealer... the sound only occurs on the 1st cold start of the day... dealer didn't say anything about the starter being a problem.... anyways they are changing the timing chain and the tensioner... also changing the VVT or something.... if that fails i'll get them to replace the starter motor.....

i'll keep you posted when i get my car back tomorrow.

Hi guys, new here.

I have a 1999 hilux xtra cab rwd, RZN154R engine is 3RZ-FE (2.7L Multi point EFI) that i bought second hand about 1 month ago, and it has acceleration hesitaion which is starting to annoy me, especially when driving round canberra where i need to accelerate quick. in any of the gears, even first, when i bought my foot right down it just sounds like its going to stall, similar to a badly tuned whipper snipper that burs when the throttle is opened. Then at around 20-30km in first it will just suddenly take off as the revs very slowly build up to that point (not sure what the rpm is as it doesnt have a tacho). It sounds like it is lean from the injectors not compensating for the wide open throttle.

This is what i have done to try and solve the problem.

Cleaned air filter, changed oil and oil filter, changed spark plugs, and cleaned the throttle body, i have also ran it on a tank of v-power 98 mixed with Nulon total fuel system cleaner, on the free way for 4hrs, helped a bit, but got worse a couple of weeks after treatment.

I would normally ask at work as i am a 1st yr apprentice mechanic but the work is flat out there and haven't had time to ask yet.

Hi While the following will probably apply wholly or in part to all other models. My car is a 1999 V6 Vienta with approx 175000 Ks on the clock so considering changing Cat: As I believe this to be the biggest restriction in the exhaust system I am considering fitting a larger say 2.5 or 3 inch inlet, outlet Cat: either hi flow or normal, preferably mettle core. As a change is needed, should be a cheap way of reducing back pressure to gain a little better fuel economy and maybe a smidgen of power without any noticeable increase in exhaust noise. Any constructive suggestions or help appreciated. I expect cost to be around $200 to $300 approx.

if you need to replace it, replace it with the same cat, i wouldnt modify it

I'm thinking it's the cat.

any ideas of what it is and the cause or is this normal

this is normal. its more than likely the heat shields around the cat cooling
