    Ended up doing this yesterday after a bit of fiddling. For anyone's future reference, I took it all out to examine how it all worked first.

    Then I inserted a bit of the plastic track/guide rope into the retracting wheel and closed the whole thing back up. Then I went outside, turned the key and waited a couple of minutes for the car to send power to extend the antenna. Then hooked it all back up again, pulled the keys out and the antenna retracted fairly easily.

  2. So I'm looking at doing the 80k km service on my Corolla myself and was looking up some Ryco parts and stumbled across the cabin air filter.

    I never realised I had a cabin air filter. Does it exist (on the 01 model)? If so, can anybody tell me where it is, and how to access it and replace it? If it doesn't exist are all the components there for me to simply slot one in? Also is it just a simple remove dust filter or does it remove smells and stuff as well such as diesel fumes?

    Also, dealers are looking at charging around $450 for the 80k km service which seems a bit steep to me. I do realise the extra things over a usual service are replacing the fuel filter and changing the brake fluid however most of it seems to be 'checks'. Is there anything else that they do that I should be looking at doing also?

    So for my own service I'd be looking at changing

    - air filter

    - oil filter & oil

    - fuel filter

    - brake fluid

    - rotating tyres

    - topping up fluids if necessary.

    Anything I have missed? Thinking transmission fluid but it wasn't listed in the service manual. Also, what brands are people using? I'm thinking Ryco as its a decent product and fairly cheap, but open to other brands. Any ideas?

    Just wondering how the Sportivo springs differ to the standard non Sportivo spring?

    Are they lower, significantly stiffer? How will they pair with the standard non Sportivo shock? If they're lower springs I'd imagine it wouldn't do my shock life a world of good either.

  4. Changing the battery will not lose the code and will not void warranty.

    The battery is considered a 'user servicable' part and is replacable, as mentioned for bew bux from any electronics store.

    The coding of the key itself is hard coded, and does not change. The way it integrates with the car is that the car has a reciever, when programmed, it is set to recieve a signal from a transponder (the key).

    Actually this remote is a little different. For a start theres no screw, or any noticeable way to open it. But I did managed to open it with a small screwdriver and replace the battery.

    On my old Camry (last of the wide body) I had a seperate remote opener to the key and it was not serviceable. You had to throw it away when the battery was flat.

    Only good think about that model was there was a port in the glovebox you put the new remote into and pushed the horn so many times to programme the remote.

    Sounds like Bull sh..t but it was true.

    So you might have some thing similar except now Toyota programme them for you.

    Yea I think this is the case I am falling under unfortunately. Either that or the unit itself is broken somehow. Its hard to test anything under than connectivity on PCBs without a circuit diagram.

  5. Hey guys just wondering if anyone has had the battery in their remote go flat and had to replace it. Toyota are telling me I have to replace the whole unit which will cost around $35 for the unit itself and $18 for programming it.

    Now I think thats ridiculous.... So I know on some cars you can just replace the battery and theres a procedure to reprogram it. Can this be done?

  6. With anything aftermarket, if they can pin the fact that the 'modification' caused the problem, they will not cover you.

    I am pretty sure it says somewhere in the fine print of warranty that whenever a car is modified, warranty becomes void ...

    i think that the warrantee is only void for the suspension components if you've modified the suspension... i.e if you have an engine failure it should still be covered. However its only if they somehow can prove that the lowered car contributed to it, say if an engine component is rubbing on the ground or something due to the car being too low... but I beleive technically if the modification and the failure are unrelated, then you will still be covered.

    That said i think those 'checks' are full of crap... all they do is tap around with spanners and have a look... for $99 i wouldn't bother... if they do the service properly, they should have already covered anything that could go wrong.

  7. which coolants are people using for their camry?

    We've been using the stock toyota coolant from servicing but it needs a top up atm, so I thought i'd get a bottle from repco or something. So

    1. Is mixing coolants okay?

    2. Which coolant to buy?

    the vehicle in question is an 99 (i think) camry v6 - the model before the current model with the thin tail lights.

  8. WHAT THE F*C K!!! 33.000km in 31/2 F'ING years MAN :blink::blink: i think i racked up that many kms in the first week i owned my car from brand new!!! :lol: i'm about to hit 80,000km and thats been alot of long drives and after 31/2+ years!!! :D

    Yeah I know, my warranty experied and the car is barely run in :rolleyes:

    hahahaha i beat u all!!! about less than 33,000kms since 2001 - just when the corolla was released

  9. The piping is the same as the 1zz and the filter is the same as well.

    Not any difference that im aware off.

    If you look at the TRD site the trd panel filter fits both the sportivo and 1zz

    yea but is the intake the same size and location?

    the 1zz intake from the airbox is tiny....

    basically looking for some sort of gains for little money.... not necessarily in power, but a bit of fuel better breathing = better fuel economy would be nice

    any other sportivo --> 1zz corolla swap ideas?
