  1. Hey Guys,

I recently purchased a TRD Aurion from sydney and i have quick two question ..

Quesiton 1: I brought a set of new wheels 18x8.75 XXR 530 and they look ugly because its not lowered. i want to lower it on kingspring but will i sacrifice much performance if i switch to kingspring from TRD suspension Setup ? is the TRD spring any better or wont be much difference ?

** i did a $200 prepurchase inspect before i brought the car and the mechanic said the spring has some General shock wear, bush wear for age"

Question 2: those new wheels i brought are XXR 530 18x8.75 with 240/40/18 AdvanA13. is the 8.75 legal in QLD ? or i should just switch it to the 18x7.5 to be safe and not get pulled over? ( i reckon you can't tell if it sticks out or not , only if you look very close..)

  2. Here's a basic question... did you reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery etc after the K&N intake was fitted?

Sometimes the Aurion doesn't quite know how to respond to changes and resetting the ECU forces it to learn what is "normal". Also, the check VSC error is very deceiving. You will tend to get the Check VSC System message whenever any code is thrown and sometimes by the time you go to read the actual code, it will have been cleared and the only one left is the generic VSC error code.

Quick random question. Havent most of our dyno'd Aurions been making around 153-158kw at the wheels? with the odd freak in the 160's? lol

Every dyno can have it's day where it reads differently. You can't really compare unless you have the different cars on the same dyno around the same time. What matters here is that you could see the difference between the K&N and stock and that indicates that it is reading consistent for comparing the same car with changes.

are you serious ...??? why is my so **** ...

but believe it or not ..i have raced so many cars ..roll-start and at the lights. audi tt, mazda mps ..golf gti..and always win though..

Those cars aren't particularly fast either. Besides, racing a car on the streets proves nothing.

yea your right, racing a car on the street dont prove anything. but its just for fun..dont really care if it proves anything or not haha

but yea ...APC did reset the ECU after putting the stock air box back on and then re-install the k&n the week after that. so now its been reseted ...hopefully it will be alright ?

  3. I had the same message come up on my TRD. Found out in my instance it was to do with a build up of corrosion on the battery. Took the battery terminal off and gave it a good clean, and haven't had the problem come up since. When the check VSC system fault came up on my dashboard, i wasnt even able to start the car.

yea i had this some problem b4 alreay. car wouldnt start when the check VSC system comes up ( b4 had the kn installed). but found out it was the car battery that was almost out ..so yea...nothing to do with intake i guess ><''

  4. Hi everyone …

I have a 2008 (ex-cop) Toyota Aurion sportivo sx6 around 95,000 km. it’s in good condition, nothing wrong, CHECK VSC never comes up..UNTIL…

Around 2+ months ago …I installed the K&N typhoon air intake (69-8611TS) at ultratune, about 2 weeks later, the “check VSC system”message comes up, when I was driving normally, but after I restart the car, it went away. Then about 1 month after that, the message came up again, and this time, won’t go away even after I restarted the car so I just kept driving it till I get home...

few days later I rang up service department at southside Toyota ...and told the techs about my problem...he answered “was something to do with the calculation of the fuel and air for the computer and the engine , that it’s not suitable for the engine or something ? because that k&n is old stuff.. not suitable for new cars these day and is stuffing up the computer ? could damage to the vale in the long run?” so he suggested me to install the stock one or take it to a local dyno tune shop ..and they may fixed the problem.

So i went to APC Australian Performance Centres at underwood (pretty nice people). Talked to them about the problem again and they said they could fix it. So on the first day, they did some kind of computer test (check ECU fault codes for $87), and came up with some error code (P0500 vehicle speed sensor) that says “ possible causes - vehicle speed sensor harness or connectors is open or shorted – vehicle sensor circuit poor electrical connection – faulty vehicle speed sensor – faulty combination meter – faulty engine control module and etc..” But none of that is related to the k&n air intake and my speedometer are fine…why does it come up with that code,

in order to determine the cause of the problem the guy suggested me to install the stock airbox back on and drive for a week and see if the code still comes up…so I got the stock one installed backed in ( cost another$90 ) …drove it for a week and the warning sign didn’t come up as usual on the stock air box.

So I went back to APC a week after which is today. they did a dyno test ( $291.75) on the stock and k&n air intake,(graph at the bottom) and found out the input for the fuel is still the same which means the air intake is probably not the cause of the problem…and the guy said something might be wrong for the sensor on the intake….

And now APC told me to drive again for a week with the k&n air intake and see if the “check VSC system” will come up again

I have spent almost $500 for this..to fix the problem…and really don’t want to spend anymore… I mean the guys at APC are pretty professional and nice…they didn’t want to just tune my car and make it faster straight away without fixing the problem first…so in the meantime was wondering if anyone has this problem before…and any suggestion for it .

Attached the dyno graph .red is stock. Blue is with the k&N. looks like k&n has less power at the acceleration ..until it reaches 132km ..it started to gain power....why is that...

  5. Note for future 2nd hand car buying always study log book first before actual car if log book is dodgy or not fillled out walk away. I dont think you will have any real problems still plenty of km's to go before the car starts giving you trouble.

    haha thanks ><''''

yea used to have a old stock camry csi from 1997 ....had it for 13 years ..with 130,000km. never had any problem with the car...eventhough i always drive it hard out ..flooring it etc lol. but 13 yrs ...haha not that bad i guess ?

on the top gear website...it says that the aurion will last million yrs ...ahaaha so i guess the aurion will last for a long time ? 20 yrs maybe ?

by my is a ExCop car ><'' ...maybe wont last that long....

No doubt that this car was driven off it's tits. Was thrashed from a dead cold engine, engine was left idling hours on end (police don't turn off their cars with strobes on, it kills the battery).

But really, doesn't matter. She will still go on for years to come. My old camry was absolutely thrashed, and I mean thrashed! The guy I bought my camry from(family friend), his son would treat every car like its a V8 supercar so I know it was a thrashed car/engine.

But with a lot of TLC I could have sold the car with a guarantee that the engine will last you another 200,000KM :)(was sitting on 250,000 when sold)

how old was ur old camry ? not as old as my was it ? my was 13 years old...1997 camry XD i treat it like a race car too when i got my license lol.

so eventhough the the excop aurion was thrashed ..still will last a long time hey lol. whats TLC ?

In easy terms is means the car was driven hard! Why are some of you being heroes and saying "Shouldn't have bought it should have done this and that" not very helpful! Police car or not it's a very nice vehicle ;)

    Point not well taken..

The car should've been inspected properly from top to bottom to avoid any unwanted problems. It might not help him this time, but it will next time and let this be a lesson. You don't want to advise people to do this and that only when bad things happened do you..?

Despite of its negatives being an ex-polices, It's a nice car and hopefully no problem watsoever in the future. We're all happy for him. I'm sure nothing major & different would happen to this car as much as ours.

defintly a big less for my parents and i XD

hopefully the engine wont break down after a year or 2 LOL!

  6. QLD Police were the only ones who were able to shear the outer section of the brake rotor from the inner hat on the patrol cars, I guess that says one thing about how they're driven :P

" shear the outer section of the brake rotor from the inner hat " what does that mean ?

sorry im a newbie here ^^"

  7. Hmm.. It sounded you didn't do enough inspection before buying it.

I was thinking this too. Should've taken a friend or your father for a closer detailed inspection of the vehicle before purchase.

60k km's in 1 year does sound high, but the main thing is still how that 60k km's was driven. How much did you buy the car for? Maybe if you'd known that the prior owner was the QLD Police, you could've used that to lower the price.

Normally fleet and Government vehicles are replaced every 3-5 years as mentioned above, so it is strange that this one is being 'offed' after only a year/

well before i got it ..i had a friend who owns a 2007 aurion sportivo zr6 to test drive it ...he said that it feels the same as his ...

and also had some parents friend ...to have a look too ...all said it was ok ..

got the car for $22,000 ..i guess it was ok ? 2008 aurion with 60K ..for 22..?~ the guy gave us the log book in the end ...only find out it was QLD police untill he left ><''

didnt have any experience in buying 2nd hand car ....lol!

  8. If it's a white one it would have been a General Duties car which means it would have been flogged. I say this because i do alot of the flogging on them in my division haha. They dont jump gutters really well but i'm sure a few people i have arrested could attest to their ability to brake pretty quickly forcing said persons to lurch forward into perpex divider in car.

been flogged u serious ?? ><'' general duties ...what does it include ? like responding to 000 call ? chasing people and stuff right ?

yea and also see on top of the car ....looks like the paint has been repainted at the top .. ( the place where u guys put the lights siren thing)and you could see some weird small crack or line ...like it was really been used as a general dutie car b4 ..not undercover ?

and the car was made in 2008 oct, but registered on 2009 on the logbook ....and had like 60,000+ ..thats heaps right ?

but why the police got rid of it ? coz they got the 2010 model one ?

will my aurion wont last for long ? some people said if its a government car ...they take care of it regular servicing etc ...but one of my friend siad that they just drive it hardout for a year , not doing any servicing and then just get rid of it in a year or two ..is that true ><''

theres a lot of scratches on the dashboard by the way ....

the badge at the back was stuck upside down as well...the 'sx6' badge ..turned in to 9x5

  9. jesus .....was just joking about it.

i wont actually do it ..why i put myself into trouble =.=''

anyway its fun reading the reply i get lol! thanks guys !

btw ...my friend has a 2006 aurion sportivo sx6, he cant go pass the speed of 160km/hr....once he get there..he cant go over ...

is there a limit on these aurion ?

    but for my ex-cop 2008 sx6, i can go 200km/hr and over ...
