  1. i do have the will , biggest thing stopping me is knowledge because i just got into cars!!! second is finances as i am a uni student ,casual worker. but the biggest thing is knowledge , i dont know where to buy the items or know what items will fit or not. but i am still googling/asking on here.

A camry is NOT a performance car

    I know right...

Yeah so with enough cash thrown at it any car can go fast..Hell I have even seen a video of a Honda civic doing the same to a GTR. In fact there is even a video of a 500 hp Hyundai excel getting around. All these modified cars going up against a bog stock GTR isnt impressive at all. I laugh as well at the fact that all of these races all start at 110+ upwards........Because below that speed they break into wheelspin and still the bog stock GTR dances off into the distance

Clearly you want a performance car. My advice is to stick it out for a while in the camry. Don't spend unnecessary money on it. Save up your cash until you can afford a performance car......A camry is NOT a performance car

  3. Well in your list you never mentioned firmer shocks. So I would say start with a decent spring / shock combo and replace some of the worn bushes. Then if required upgrade the rear swaybar.........After you have done this you may begin to discover that the seat isnt supportive enough to match the improved cornering ability

    >besides sway bar , strut brace and coils as an upgrade option (plus wider and grippier wheels) , what other types of suspension work can be done on the gen4 camry to make it more less body roll and more grippy, improving handling?

I am guessing you missed the part about the shocks......No point in upgrading coils if the shocks are worn. Ideally the two should match or you get too much bounce - Hence why I typed spring / shock combo :whistling:

  4. The cheapest way I would think would be to swap in a 3sgte 2 litre turbo import engine. Buy a half cut so you can use the loom and computer......But even still this isnt going to be a cheap conversion....Do you really want to spend this amount of cash on a camry ?

  6. Well the design of the OBX seems to be the best for efficiency that I have seen. But I am not hearing any good stories regarding the quality. Apparently they have fitting issues ( which I think John Su experienced ) and the metals they use arent the best either. But the design itself seems to be the best I have seen. See any decent power gains John ?

  7. Well to be honest it aint sparkling show quality beautiful.....But I like it. Simple yet effective.Very much what I had in mind for mine when funds permit. What sort of $$ would one expect to pay for something like this ? Was it done in Sydney ?........did you notice power gains ? And at what sort of revs did the gains seem most noticable ? What effect did it have on fuel economy ? The ECU didn't mind the swap at all ?

  8. Anybody here had a custom Y pipe made up ? I know there are some rather nasty fitting ones available from ebay. But I would love to see pictures and hear what the improvements are like. Who fabricated it and so on....more so if you are in Sydney

  9. yeah I had a go at it myself. really easy to do. All bulbs you can buy from any auto parts store. give the white heater control backing a good wipe over when you do it. keeps the lights a bit brighter

  10. For anyone considering doing this upgrade I can give a few tips on successful installation

    * The wiring harnesses from both wheels are totally different but...

    * The cruise control unit has a different harness, however other than the harness the units are both identical. So I unscrewed the units from the wheel and swapped them. I had to cut the earth wire from the old wheel, But the new wheel has a blade fitting perfect for a crimp terminal to go onto.

    * The new cruise control unit has a rubber dust cover which I simply stretched and slid off and put on the old one.

    * The airbag itself has a different harness so a quick trip to repco I managed to buy a generic harness plug which has two crimp terminals inside. The airbag has blue and yellow wires on both models so I cut the wires on the new airbag and installed the generic harness.

    * I had to pull it out a few times to get the wheel in the correct position but anyone with a bit of mechanical/ electrical aptitude will knock this over easily

  11. As you can see in the photos included my existing steering wheel is very badly deteriorated, probably quite typical of many other camrys out there

The amount of solar damage is really evident in these pictures

So rather than buy a new wheel, I prefered something leather and sporty. And sadly the touring model wheel just won't cut it with me. So...............

I managed to find a Gen 5 Sportivo wheel at a great price and to be honest its a sweet upgrade

It really matches the black cluster background perfectly and feels nicer to drive with.

  12. Hi just enquiring if anybody knows for 100% certain if the gen 4 camry Australian spec will accept shocks from the US spec ? As I am currently checking out these Tokico shocks but not even they are sure if they are the same as the Aus spec......Anybody ever fitted US spec shocks to an Aus spec ?

  13. Hi sorry to dig up an old thread, But I now have the same problem. I need to change the bulbs for the vent position dial as it has gone out. How did you end up getting it. ? I asked a few guys at work and I was told that I need to replace the whole control unit....This I thought a little weird. Any tips or advice ?

  14. And I forgot to mention as well, That as much as I like the Camry's I have never seen a car that has a habit of locking on oil filters as firmly as these do. You may gently tighten them on using one hand only and yes I do apply a film of oil to the new rubber O ring seal, But come filter change time both hands and all your strength and they still won't budge.

  15. If it's the V6 model I use my filter remover . The type I have is a black Nylon ( I think ) strap that goes around the filter. 1/2 inch ratchet tightens around it until it loosens...Works a treat. - Now I just figure out how to stop the oil leaking out onto the exhaust
