When I bought my 2nd vdv10 vienta 2 years ago the remotes that I was given were close to dead. From memory it's around 40 dollars for a new remote and you program the new remote by inserting the old one into the slot and waiting for the security light then insert the new one and leave it (this was a little while ago so I might not be 100% correct) for a little while.

Well the other vienta we have had since new and not once have we ever had problems with the alarm/immobilizer but with any 15+ year old car problems are to be expected.

If you are happy leaving the old remote in the slot and using the key to lock the doors that should be fine. Why don't you just get a new remote and leave the old one in the glovebox if you were to run into problems down the track....

I'm glad it worked....Toyota did really think of everything when designing that model camry :) at least you won't have to carry spare remotes in the car if it were to happen again

No I just have to make sure I dont loose the remote. If I leave the remote in the slot, the immobiliser and security doesnt come on and it acts like a normal ignition. I might just leave it there. When I first buy a car,the first thing I do is get the immobiliser bypassed. I have owned three SV21 camrys and the most common problem I had earlier on was the immobilieser coming on and not going off. I tend to go a lot further bush and so an immobiliser is a potential problem I dont need.

I have found the SV21 Camrys to be pretty good (apart from clutch forks) and hope the same for this model. Only issue to date apart from this immobiliser is the rear discs seemed to warp fairly easily. Had them skimmed when I bought the car due to a brake pulsation which fixed it but now its back again,

Well if it's the same as my 96 model there should be a slot in the top right hand corner of the passenger glovebox. My manual states:

1. Unlock the front door with the key

2. Separate the key and the remote control

3. Insert the key into the ignition switch but don't turn the key

4. Insert the remote control into the slot in the glovebox and wait for the security light on the dash to illuminate continuously for 5 seconds

5. Remove the remote from the glovebox reader, then try to start vehicle.

Hopefully that helps. It's a very similar process when programming a new remote.

We wondered what that thing in the glove box was for. Now we only have to tell the RAC who sent out a Serviceman who spent an hour looking at it and then a tow truck.

Some advice is sought.

I own a 1995 Camry wagon with the 2.2 fuel injected motor, automatic and 4 wheel discs. It also has the factory fitted central locking and immobiliser.

Yesterday afternnon whilst visitng the country, the battery in the doggle that remotely locks the doors and switches off the immobiliser went flat meaning we couldnt switch off the immobiliser resulting in a tow back to home. This battery appears to be welded in so I cant replace it. This appears a major design fault because I do have friends who carry a spare battery because they have been caught before but to carry a spare dongle in the gloveboxs seems a bit of overkill and defeats the purpose of having a dongle in the first place.

It thus looks like I have to wait for the local dealer to open tomorrow so I can get a replacement and head home. Is there any way in which I can bypass the immobilier to enable me to drive it back to perth tonight and to the bealers tomorrow?
