Yeah, I think getting one from a wreckers would be a big gamble and I hate to think what Toyota would charge, that's if they even have them. Thanks for the tip on the bolts, never even though of that. I actually had to put the steering wheel back on to move the car forward in the driveway during the process, weird feeling driving it like that.

Wow, that's some serious melting. I ended up just buying a dash mat today for mine. I'm not really a huge fan of dash mats but covering it up has proved strangely therapeutic. Now I can just drive along and pretend everything's ok.

Drew. Sorry, haven't got any photos of the dash at the moment. It's starting to chip off in places too. Apart from that I really like the Aurions, so it's a shame. Removing the dash is a pain but not as big of a nightmare as I was expecting, just need time. The airbags aren't an issue, just make sure the battery is disconnected before working on the dash. Taking the steering wheel airbag off is actually fairly straight forward. The passenger one comes out with the dash after disconnecting the wiring. You have to remove the steering wheel to give yourself some space to manoeuvre the dash out, even then it's a close call. You're supposed to take the indicator part off too which would give you a bit more space, which I didn't do. Are you looking at another dash from a wrecker? Does Toyota even sell them? Term

Same problem here, 2007 Prodigy. The shine in the windscreen is starting to get quite noticeable. I also considered getting another dash but, like Andrew, I can't be sure the next dash won't have exactly the same problem. I've completely removed the dash to try to clean it, this didn't make much difference. The process of getting it out just causes more damage on the already soft surface. I also plasti-dipped it but I wasn't happy with the result so removed it, and it's not a long term solution. I even considered wrapping it. So I'm now in the market for a dash mat to cover the ugly thing, out of sight, out of mind...sort of. As a side note, if anyone is interested in what's under the dash:

We looked at the new GXL yesterday and queried the salesman on this point (we had ours stolen recently on the CVX). He happily explained that it was a simple fix, all you had to do was take the winding socket...etc In short no, it looks like the same issue is still present.

Thanks for the input. Most of my driving is to and from work, about 35 minutes along the freeway in the early morning, not much traffic. I get about 600km between refills. It was serviced not long before I bought it. It's due for its 52,500km service now. I might stay with 10,000km service intervals for the moment and just keep an eye on the oil. It was an ex-government car and all the servicing was done by Toyota, I'm considering doing an oil flush for the first time ever as a mate had a Kluger serviced only by Toyota which ended up with sludge and an expensive fix. Toyota was in denial. That's only one bad experience though, I'm probably just being paranoid.

Steven, I have used Castrol mineral oil in my old car, had the car for 12 years and changed the oil religiously every 10,000k. Was using GTX 3 for years, which is discontinued now I believe, it was 15w40 which was fine for my last car. Traded the car recently, it had 290,000k on it and was still going strong. Speaking of service intervals, not sure about the 7,500k oil & filter changes for the Aurion, according to the book, seems excessive. Does everyone stick to this?

Jacob, I was having a look at that unit too and contacted the seller. Something to be aware of, and apologies if you already knew this, those headrests don't have speakers installed which was one thing that put a spanner in the works for me, apart from the cost. So if you were going to play DVDs to the headrests you would either need to have a separate player, with its own speakers, connected to the headrests or play the DVD though the main head unit and have the audio through the car speakers. I didn't like the idea of having to stash a DVD player somewhere and run cables to the headrests. And the idea of listening to The Wiggles cr*p on about their big red car for six hours straight though the car speakers made me shiver and curl up into a ball. Not that I don't like The Wiggles, but you can get too much of a good thing. Could always change the DVD to Chuggington I suppose.

Hi all, Just introducing myself. Have recently bought a 2008 Aurion ATX. Completely stock at the moment but am considering upgrading the HU, maybe alloys in the future, not planning on doing too much although i've replaced the floor board in the boot that covers the wheel (do those things roll off the production line already broken!?) My old car was a panelvan but got a second baby on the way and can't fit two baby seats in the front. Had been looking at the Aurion, and these forums, for a while and decided to bite the bullet. Pretty impressed so far, particularly the fuel economy. In the past I have always serviced my own cars and did most of the work myself, apart from big jobs/specialist equipment. Will be doing most of the servicing myself as the factory warranty runs out this month. Anyhoo look forward to keeping up with the forums, have found them to be quite useful and informative.
