  1. Anyone know where to locate and what colour the reverse gear and handbrake wires are?

I'm installing a double din headunit this weekend, I've got the correct wiring harnesses and fascia kit however manual crimping to the handbrake wire (for head unit safety) and reverse gear (to auto select reverse cam) are necessary. So just curious if anyone knows where to find them and their colouring.

  2. And Steven, I do (honestly) appreciate your work on the group buy and organising it all. The faults with the unit are intermittent and obviously not apparent on all units (so no surprise your testing of it didn't replicate the issues others were having). I'm not attacking you on this, just stating that there are indeed problems with the unit (which we seem to disagree on).

    Steven is correct though.

You can't expect Silver Service when you're paying Black and White cab prices.

To a point I wholeheartedly agree. No one would ever buy more expensive brands if the cheaper ones are just as good. I did expect my unit to be a little more reliable though, random freezes/navigation refusing to work is pretty bad. Lets not forget that it is a $600 unit, so not completely cheap.

  3. I'd go further but previous experience here warns me that some people just can't be pleased unless a $700 unit doesn't perform as well as a $2500 brand name unit, which they never will and is perfect in every. single. way

Hi Steven, I think you should start respecting others peoples opinion regarding the easydeals unit. Multiple people here have expressed their dissapointment on it - mostly due to it's lack of stability/reliability. Promised firmware updates never fixed these issues either. It does have it's issues and you cant seem to accept that (just because your lucky and don't experience them on yours doesn't mean people are lying about these issues). It doesn't cost $2500 to get a brand name with similar features either, more like $800.

With that said, I do beleive the Android version of the unit would probably be much better (personally I love Android), because my main issues with the other unit is it's lack of stability - probably mostly a software issue.

Here are some links of interest re Android head units.

Android 4.0, 1Ghz CPU, 1GB RAM (higher spec than easydeals unit, more current version of Android too). Not sure on it's physical build quality though, looks like the same/similar design to the easydeals though.

Another Android 4.0, similar specs but slightly different appearance - the colour of the front facia doesn't look like it matches the rest of the dash.

And of course the easydeals unit.

  4. Being a big user of DAC's at home I was planning on just adding an 12v psu and running one of the DAC's I had at home.

Head Unit --> DAC---AMP--- Speakers. with the right DAC this could give easily give as good if not much better sound than the brand name units.

Can you get a digital untouched signal out of the headunit (that hasn't already gone through the head units inbuilt DAC)? Because if not, there is no point adding a second DAC in the chain, no matter how good a quality DAC you add, if there is a cheap DAC in the chain the audio isn't going to be made better by adding another. Not questioning your knowledge, but just providing food for thought if you hadn't already thought of that.

  5. Is it related to this? http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/104-5th-6th-generation-2002-2006-2007-2011/285250-attn-all-2gr-fe-v6-owners-update-oil-hose-replacement-pg-23-a.html

Should have been fixed for free under warranty/recall. Yours may be a different problem, but check, if it's the same issue I would lean very hard on them to replace it free of charge (in fact it sounds like something that shouldn't break under wear and tear anyway, lean on them either way).

  6. I have some similar issues too. Maps/navigation stopped working (says no map found even though the mem card has remained unchanged). Some glitches in audio and loud speaker pop when starting/shuttind down car (never happened with factory unit) and of course the long list of software bugs that never got cleared up in firmware updates (I noticed no difference in updates).

All in all I'm fairly dissapointed with the easydeals unit, I expected better for $600+. I noticed he is selling an Android version of it now, it costs more which is strange since its the same physical hardware and Android is a free OS.

I was offered to return the unit for it to be shipped back to China for inspection. I haven't had much time to pull it out and I'm not particularly keen on paying shipping and waiting forever for it to travel the slow boat to China.

So basically I'm on the hunt for a similar unit - that actually works and is relatively bug free. Almost keen to try the Android model but not sure of it's reliability.

Edit: Here is the Android one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/8-Android-Toyota-Camry-Aurion-WIFI-GPS-IPOD-Car-DVD-Reversing-Camera-/261209301960?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cd149a3c8

  7. I just sucked it up and had my 2007 Aurion ZR6 serviced at Toyota, $848 90K major. The only reputable mechanic I know in my area is extremely expensive anyway. Notable expensive parts were, $223 for 6 spark plugs, $68 for oil, $48 for Engine Sub-Assy (whatever that is).

If I only knew someone local that is reputable and knows the car I'd go there to save a few $$. There sure are a huge ammount of items on the Toyota service schedule, I just wonder what a local Mechanic would do to the car vs Toyota.

  8. Done some research and bugging other forum members on how to install all this wizbang gagetry.

Posting these links for others in my situation (never done this) and for myself to come back to this when the unit arrives.

How to remove/install new head unit (I will also run a USB extension cable from back of new unit up into center console).

Reverse camera install, those with a ZR6 Aurion will have a removable plate for the cam to go through.

Thanks to all those for sharing your knowledge and extra thanks to Steven for arranging this group buy!

  9. I'm 100% committed to this, due to recent financial loss (a 70-200 f4L IS), I can't afford to get this until next pay day or tax return comes in (whichever first). My pay comes in on the 24th so I can pay by the deadline (although wish I could pay sooner ot help get the ball rolling for everyone).

I will want the unit + reverse camera.

Shipping for me will go to 3150 Glen Waverley (will PM my address when needed).

    Cheers.

Edit: This thing does integrate with the existing steering wheel controlls right?

Edit #2: Actually, I can lay out the cash for this thing anytime.

  10. Hi All,

I've picked up a used 2007 Aurion Sportivo ZR6. It only has the base audio system - 6 CD stacker.

I'm after something with more features:

I want USB input - plug a usb stick with mp3's on it

Bluetooth - would love to be able to hook my phone up to it to play music over bluetooth and maybe even take calls over it?

Auxilary inpu - isn't as important as the above 2 but would be nice.

    Sat Nav?

Aesthetically blend in with the rest of the car controls (look genuine).

I've searched these forums a bit and a lot of people between 2009-2010 were talking about the auspack ACV-6901 this looks like what I want, but I can't find where to buy it or for how much? Is it still around, or a similar product?

    Any info would be great!

  11. I'm interested in getting this mod done. I've had my 07 Aurion ZR6 for less than a week - I LOVE the car. But for a car with so many features I'm surprised it doesn't have any AUX or USB input. At the moment I'm just burning mp3 CD's :(

I don't know if I feel comfortable trying this mod. I have very little electronics skills - although I do have family/friends who are technically minded with this type of stuff. Will read up more and give it a go someday.

The next mod after this may well be changing the speakers over - the bass in this car is so uncontrolled it distorts and baffles out the mid and high range!

  12. Finally got a photo. Bad location though, no lighting whatsoever - only had my speedlight and phone led to light up the scene :/

Will take some more when I get the chance.

I'm starting to learn how to use the features. I love the smart key system - I like not having to do anything with the key except having it with me :)

Id like to find out if there is some way to add more functionality to the existing stereo. USB port or Auxilary input or bluetooth etc. I don't like having to burn CD's all the time :(

  13. Just like to say Hi to everyone!

A bit about myself. A 1995 Camry was my first car, 4 years later and I've just traded it in for a 2007 Aurion Sportivo ZR6. I love it to bits, such a beautiful car. The past owner has done a beautiful job keeping it in a great condition.

I decided to join these forums to share tips and advice and of course the passion we have for Toyota's.

I'm also a keen amateur photographer, I will be taking photos of my new pride and joy once this weather and wind calms down.

    Cheers!

    Tom
