Realise there will be a lot of mixed views on this but I'd appreciate opinions on the best H/T tyres for an SR5 doing 95% bitumen travel and the odd trip on dirt. The main considerations are wet weather performance on bitumen, general handling and road noise.

The old girl has started making the noise now when the engine is turned on, before putting into drive, so you might be on the money  with lifter. We will try something like liquid moly and see how it goes. Thanks for the comment.

My 2002 petrol auto Hilux ute (an RZN 149R model) has developed an unusual clacking sound which my Toyota dealer and a local mechanic are unable to explain. The ute has done 200,000 km of light work, has been regularly serviced and is in overall good nick. The noise has just started as we have moved into the cooler weather. After nights where the temperature has dropped below 10 degrees, when starting the engine and then shifting the transmission into drive, there is a clacking sound which goes for about 5 to 10 seconds, before disappearing. The sound only starts after drive is engaged, and it goes for the 5 - 10 seconds whether the ute is stationary or moving. It sounds a bit like a belt whacking on something metallic but all the belts are tight and OK. The engine and transmission oil levels are both fine. The ute has been up on a hoist and checked thoroughly twice, but there is nothing loose or out of the ordinary to see in the engine bay or underneath.  The problem is  that I leave the ute with mechanics overnight but the noise runs for such a short time that its so far been impossible for any of them to diagnose the issue. I've downloaded a phone recording of the noise which I hope comes through OK  (its 37 mgb, so please give it time to load).  Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated.

I'm looking to fit a tradie roof rack to the cab (not the canopy) of our 2008 dual cab Hilux and would appreciate any advice about the best rack in terms of the roof's load bearing capability.

ARB tells me it neccessary to remove the internal roof lining to fit internal roof strengthening bars that enable the cab roof to support the weight of the rack which will have an 80kg load carrying capacity.

However, other suppiers such as the Roofrack Superstore who recommend a Rhino Pioneer Tradie with a claimed load arrying capacity of 80kg, and Tradesman Roof Racks who's rack has a claimed load carrying cappacity of 100kg, say that its simply a matter of fitting the rack to the existing external roof channels and that no other additional strengthening of the roof is required.

This all seems a bit contradictory. Does the roof need the strengthening in order to carry an 80kg load or a 100kg load, or is it OK to simply fit a rack to the roof channels without additional strengthening?

Would there be likley to be any important differences between a grey import 1988 HJ61RG diesel Sahara wagon (with 24 volt electrics) and a local factory import HJ61 diesel wagon of the same year (both with around 250K km)?

In other words, is there a reputation of any reliability or other issues with one versus the other?

From 2005 onward, is there such a thing as an Extra Cab diesel 4x4 and if so, does or did any of these come with auto transmission?

Thats exactly the same bit I'm trying to fix but its a hell of a spot to get to with araldite. But I guess I'll just have to give it a try.

A plastic lug behind the dashboard on our Hilux has been broken off and needs to be re-attached. Because access is very limited its not possible to use araldite, so whats needed is a strong contact adhesive glue suitable for dashboard plastics. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to the best and strongest contact glue for plastics that members have had good results with.

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with directions on how to remove the glovebox lid on the lower part of the dashboard on a 2005 KUN26 SR (new body shape) dual cab Hilux. I need to get access behind the dashboard on the passenger's side and so far have not been able to determine how to remove the glovebox lid.

I'd appreciate any assistance.

Its currently fitted with 175 &0's but someone told me it should have 185 70's. Unfortunately the tyre info plate is missing so I can't tell what the tyre specs were on the car originally.

My 1994 Corolla CSI AE95R 4WD Wagon has 5J x 13 rims and needs new tyres. Could anyone please advise if its possible to fit both 175 70 and 185 70 size tyres (ie., 4 of the one size) to this model rim.
