  1. Okay, so I took my mothers advice, "Get off your a** took a look yourself!!"

What I found was, I don't need to replace the whole dial and backing, It's just one part of the plastic...

I could probably get one off a ZRE thats at a wreckers, if ANYONE knows where to find a ZRE at a wreckers, LET ME KNOW PLEASE!!!

Overall I'm feeling pretty chuffed with myself, being able to do all this ^_^

This is what I meant by... the dial has sunk.. the top of it doesn't sit straight and is lose to hold.

this is the cord I was talking about that you can't disconnect, which later I found that I don't need to disconnect it...

Oh, and the globe needs replacing... Later on I found that the globe had actually exploded which Is why I couldn't find it in this image....

If anyone needs help pulling apart a ZRE dash, let me know!!!

  2. Hi Guys,

Got in the car last night, turned the directional flow control dial to unfog the windscreen and as i was turning, something inside the plastic snapped and the dial sort of sunk into the plastic of the dash and the illumination died.

Can anyone advise me if I can get a new dial or something? I can pull the dash apart myself but at the back of the air flow control dial thers the cable and I can't seem to get it off, it doesn't look like an easy unplug and replace job.... Has anybody done this before and can lend a few extra tips?

I can post some pictures when I get home and show you where it has snapped and what the dial looks like from the front...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Luke.

  3. once unscrewed, the firewall is in the way of fully pulling the plugs out once unscrewed.

i will post photos shortly to try and explain what i mean and hopefully you can tell me what im doing wrong.

Have you tried removing the trim that is preventing the plugs from coming out? If something is blocking it, the first logical step would be to see if you can remove the said blockage. I'm guessing it would be trim in the way because I find it hard to imagine the firewall being in the way.

That said, I think I need to see a photo of what you are trying to do because correct me is I'm wrong, but aren't the spark plugs on the top of the engine underneath the engine cover? In that case, they aren't anywhere near the firewall.

well - it is the firewall. the spark plugs are at the very rear and they are sheltered, there is no plastic trim covering.

but you're all going to this i'm an idiot. i was using the wrong sized tube socket..... once i used the correct sizing i was able to pull them out with less than 3mm gap to pull it from behind the interestingly shaped firewall......

poor excuse of a design toyota!!!!!

  4. You will need to remove the spark plugs by using a ratchet and a socket. They will not just pull out.

Spark plugs are usually one of the two sizes - 13/16” or 5/8”

yes i understand that you can't just "pull them out" maybe i wasn't clear enough...

  5. This happened to me in my 1994 Rolla. Thermostat cost 100 to replace, it was stuck open and on the motorway would not shift into 4th O/D because the engine hadn't warmed up.... my fuel consumption went from 300 a tank to 500km a tank once i replaced the thermostat.

$100 to replace a thermostat? If nothing is broken and you re-use the coolant then you can do it yourself for around $20.

the whole thermostat needed to be replaced, including the little ring that come with it.

the coolant couldn't be reused either... hence the cost.

  7. SO i bought the kit, installed it and they look great! bought the 6000k globes, but my only issue is that i dont have much of a viewing distance at night, its like the lights cut off closer to me.

Is there a possible way to manually adjust the lights higher on a 2007 zre152r sedan? they do have an automatic headlight adjustment dial, but its as high as it goes.... god the headlights are crap.

  8. I'm finding my "range" on my dash info screen alters alot too, especially when my tank is not low on fuel, but i've noticed it changes ALOT. I ALWAYS get 580-600km to my tank, whereas when i fill up the "range" always says 555-589 it jumps up and down like mental!

It's a bit silly, I only watch it when I'm low on fuel to give me a basic idea of when I should pay a visit to the local Caltex.

They are not accruate, I run 650km per tank where it says only 559... Only the average fuel consumption and instant fuel consumption on the dash are accruate. I am running 6.7 now, and it says 589km in full tank, which is not right according to the maths. The maximum km I can see on my dash is 593km with average fuel consumption of 6.5.. the maths simply does not add up

If u want to save fuel, just accelerate slowly and enjoy being slow.. that is what I do.

No need to put 98 petrol, 95 is good enough. Dun use 91 because it will cause incomplete combustion

I always use 95 from caltex. Its only 5-8 dollars more a tank than e10 - I find that e10 makes my exhaust fumes smell like sewerage haha.

I knew something was up when the range is 555-589 and I'm averaging 6.8-7lt/100km which is fantastic for city driving might I add.

Very pleased with my fuel consumption, even when I am a little bit heavy on the accelerator.

  9. Hi Guys,

I'm after a HB4 HID 4000K headlight kit for my corolla (whole kit incl. wiring, ballasts and globes).

I'm finding that standard HB4 globes are just rubbish and are nowhere near bright enough for my liking.

I drive in the middle of nowhere alot with no street lights, and it's still crap!

I have tried various auto stores such as supercheap and autobarn, AND bursons. They all suggest that it's impossible, thats a load of bullplop because i've seen ZRE sedans with lovely bright HID's.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :) thanks!

  11. Got in my car (2007 ZRE152R) Corolla this morning, started it, forgot something in the house so I turned the car off and left the car key in the ignition with the door open.... Silence. Got back to the car and tested this unusual theory very suspiciously.... left the headlights on, car off, door open, SILENCE?! Drove without the seatbelt on.... SILENCE.

HAVE I BEEN BLESSED FROM THE GODS?!?!

From having a look, my understanding is the beeper is inside the instrument cluster. Do I have to replace the entire cluster if one day I go insane from silence/want the beep to work again? OR can I pull it to pieces and replace just the beeper?

Am I alone in the world?

    Luke.
