Thanks mate u were right on I was one tooth out an plus my spark plugs were soiled too an because the cams have more duration I had to bump up my idle. Thanks again

timing will be out for sure. What procedure did you use to install the distributor? If it runs at all then the exhaust cam should be installed correctly with the knock pin in the right orientation. What does the timing light tell you when it is running? I'm guessing you can't see the mark at all on the timing cover scale.
You may have installed the dist 180deg out, or a tooth or two advanced/retarded. Can be tricky to get the distributor installed spot-on. If they're toyota cams then you should see the divot in the camshaft through the oil filler when it's at TDC, then line up the marks on the distributor gear and housing, install it so the fixing bolts are in the center of the adjustment range. Then it should start and just need adjusting with the light.

Hey guys I am in need of help, I have a 16v 4age an I have just ported the exhaust on the head put a thinner head gasket on it an have been given some cams with more duration an it will not start :( it will start but but runs very very rough an does not idle. It will start to run by dut dut dut dut I have to open the throttle body to get it running. I have done the timing an it's spot on I have checked the timing belt an it's spot on. I've done the valve clearances they are fine.it has spark,it has fuel pressure an it has air WTF is going on???? Plz help thanks Matt

Hi guys i need some help, i have brought a 4age big port and everything has been disassembled and noticed that on the conrod caps someone has punched the number 1 on two caps and number 2 on the other caps.I thought u are ment to punch the number of the cylinder it came out of SO U CAN PUT IT BACK IN, what the hell??? CAN I PUT THE CONRODS IN ANY ORDER??? i have new pistons and bearings to be put on, this is the only thing holding me back. any help would be FANTASTIC thanks matt
