  1. $2K, wouldn't I be better off buying a new box? What are they worth, $3-$3.5K?.............

i doubt you'll be able to buy a new box for that from Toyota. considering they want $900 for just the front lip of the sportivo. you'll most likely pick up a second hand box which means there will already be wear on it. There's nothing wrong with your box besides some worn parts. Just fix it, at least then you know you'll have a good box.

just out of curiousity, how do you drive? do you downshift alot to slow the car down or do you use the brakes? do you drive relatively spiritedly? Just wondering why your synchros are gone after only 30,000km

I do drive the car fairly hard, didn't really drive it that much as it was purchased as a spare car at the time, but smashed the other car and now am forced to drive this thing every day, but I have had drama's in the past going from 1st to 2nd whilst lift was engaged, this is probably what stuffed it all up, ah well I'll get it fixed and finally sell it.

  2. if it happens every time then it's most likely the 3rd-2nd gear synchros. to replace you'll need to take the gearbox out. Tell the mech to be carefull because 6th gear breaks when trying to remove aparently.

yea i've been through this issue as well from driving around like a spastic. its an expensive lesson.

it is most likely your gear synchros that have been worn out.

there is a lot of labour involved in this process you will be looking at around the 1k mark to get it fixed. may aswell get your other synchros replaced while your at it.

    good luck with it

Hmm, so it looks like the synchros are shot, how long would this take to fix as this is my only car now and need it to get around? Thanks for all the replies BTW.

  3. Haha, poor xoom... still trying to encourage but to no avail :P

lol .... yeah mate still trying ....

Can anyone recommend someone in Sydney that could do the install of this kit?

mate if your serious i can point you in the right direction ..... the only thing i would recommend however is swapping out the emanage for a powerFC if u have the cash to do so.

Cash is not the problem, getting the job done right is! Why PFC?

  4. Xoom, I don't need to go all out, I just want a faster Stivo, for some reason I love this car, the way I look at it, I would prefer to go the Rotrex way and have an intercooler.

Turbo setups as I am sure you know are a lot harder to get going, the ABS is no longer an issue, I had Rotrex supply measurments and dimensions and after we had a good look around the ABS is fine where it is.

The only isssue, which really isn't that tough is the radiator and the PFC, the piping and mounting of the S/C is no hassle.

So can i get Tahini with my kebab?

Thanks for the on topic reply.

  5. But certainly if you have a trusted top-class workshop where price = quality then go right ahead.

    KEBAB PERFORMANCE FTW !!!!!!!!

the only other concern is the PFC and making it work in the Stivo, I heard someone here has done it, any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    KEBAB PERFORMANCE FTW !!!!!!!!

Two members Northy and Xoom have a PFC on their 2zz's. Mintos also had one on his 1zz.

    KEBAB PERFORMANCE FTW !!!!!!!!

mate you know too well that i paved the way for your PFC :P im with JC as well, if your worried about how much its gonna cost then its prolly not for you. For a propper setup allow 15-20K

$15-20K for a S/C setup? Your kidding me right, you obviously haven't done your sums right, I have done a lot of cars up, the turbo's on my other car cost more than the Sportivo, another member mentioned that you had the PFC set-up on your car and the response you give me is "Kebab Perfomance", thanks for the info....I'll be sure to give them a call, do they charge extra for houmos and tabouli?

  6. OK, thanks for the input guys, based on measurements etc, fitting a Rotrex supercharger is relatively easy, the ABS unit is not a concern and does not have to be moved.

Radiator has to be custom made, I have had quotes from $550 to $900, the only other concern is the PFC and making it work in the Stivo, I heard someone here has done it, any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

  7. hahahahaha u crack me up mark ..... now stop confusing people :P :P all those people who arent in the know will actually believe you ...... i mean i know u believe everything u read on the net :P :P so that being the case my car makes 600kw @ the wheels and is pulling 8 sec 1/4 miles :P :P :P

    back on topic ......

Given the supercharger route to take .... well it all depends on how deep ur pockets are and whether u want to go custom or not.

If you dont want to go custom and arent prepared to spend a lot of money then the greddy kit is for you. Now before ppl start complaining oh but there is no intercooler yada yada yada dont forget a charger isnt like a turbo so the air aint gonna be as hot so not having a cooler isnt as bad (althought obviously with a cooler would be better) but hey u did say u didnt wanna spend a lot so u get wat you pay for.

If you dont want to go custom and money is no object then definitly try either a blitz or trial kit. They pretty much come complete but may require some fiddling to get it to fit.

If you want to go custom then im going to say to you money needs to be no object and if money is a problem then im going to recommend you DONT go custom ... simple. In the custom space the world is your oyster .... u could go rotrex or vortech or cappa or eaton the list goes on .... there are many charger manufactorers out der you just have to find the one for you.....

    cheers

    Bill

    Hey Bill,

Thanks for the response and your input, as a side note I do have a car with 600kw :D

Anyway as stated in your post, what would make a custom kit so expensive as opposed to buying a pre-made kit?

Piping is inexpensive, moving the ABS unit is something I can do, to get a custom radiator made costs approx $700, oil lines etc is something I can do, the only thing I wouldn't do is tune the PFC.

This is a possible project for me to do whilst I have no licence for three months, but before I do I'd like to get all the positives and negatives out of the way.

I could go buy another car but I really enjoy mu Stivo, It's a fun car, can park it anywhere and most of all the cops don't give me a hard time in it (yet)...

Well I supposed that Scion Tc set up is possible, but I am not sure if the shaft will causes clearance issue with the bonnet. It have to go cross the intake manifold, then you got the s/c sitting high also.

    Quite complex.

Danz, thanks for the link, I like the concept however I would prefer something with a Intercooler setup, If I can get this to work I'll build the bottom end etc.

  8. The Rotrex was my choice after looking at the TRD & Jackson chargers,it seemd a lil easier to mount,i was planning to go in my 1zzfe just a lil different in set ups,the radiator would stay in the same place ide stick a lil 14' by 2' cooler in front until ide figure out a way to fit a larger f****f intercooler in it,but that would have to revise the radiator support frame too

expensive execise :spiteful: but lets talk

From memory the engine bay in a 1zzfe has a little more room, I have made some rough measurements and I know the radiator will get in the way and I will possibly have to move the ABS units back towards the firewall.

Expensive exercise, maybe...bit it would be fun if I can pull it off.

  9. Okay, so in my spare time I have been reading up about supercharging, in particular the Sportivo, what I am thinking is a Rotrex S/C.

I would like to know from people who have tried or looked into this, what problems did you come across to change your mind.

From what I can gather, the problems are:

    Radiator?

    ABS Unit?

If these are the only problems, couldn't I get a custom radiator and move the ABS Unit?

I am losing my licence for three months and thought that this would be a fun project to fill in some time whilst being stuck at home.

I welcome your thoughts and opinions.

    Regards

  10. On a naturally aspirated car you will get nil gains from changing or getting rid of the cat, especially these motors, on a turbo motor as I stated before the gains are still minimal and not worth the possible headaches that could occur from removing the cat.

On another note I doubt the Police would be going through these threads looking for people that have bored or removed their cats, I am sure they have better things to do.
