I'm not sure if it's the overdrive. If I'm not mistaken, it's a 4 speed transmission? If it helps, normally the car is probably a little over 2k revs at 80kmh. Now at 80kmh, it is at over 3k revs.

The transmission shifts smoothly from 1st to 3rd then doesn't shift to 4th. A lack of maintenance is probably finally killing the car but does this mean the transmission is dying? Or can I still save the car?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Just about an hour, I was driving up to the scenic lookout on Mt Cootha. After one of the blind corners, a (possibly)white hatchback on its way down was travelling in my lane. To avoid a collision, I immediately braked, swerved to the left and hit the guard railing. I was travelling at approximately 40km/h. Given the age and condition of the car, it didn't matter much. However, my car did suffer some scratches and a small dent. The offending driver did not attempt to stop and just drove off. If you (the offending driver) see this, please be more careful in future.

From a very shaken driver

It's an auto, so I guess mileage isn't far off then.

I'm trying to do my own oil change. I used a spanner but the engine oil plug doesn't seem to bulge. Any advise?

I reckon the car manages less than 10km/L (70% urban traffic, 30% highway). Is there anything I can do to improve fuel efficiency?

There is also an oil leak. I have to top-up engine oil every now & then. I got a mechanic to check out the leak when I replaced the timing belt recently. But the leak is still there.

Are there an recommendations for reasonably priced auto shops in Brisbane (I'm willing to travel)?
