  1. O.K so I found a E154F out of a ST205 for $600 I could possibly swap it out with BUT.... Discovered the 2 following potential "issues"

1: The ST205 Box has a vehicle speed sensor on the box where as the ST215 box apparantly uses wheel speed sensors to determine vehicle speed.

2: The ST205 box uses a differential gear ring I guess because as above the ST215 doesn't use a VSS there for does not require one.

Taking these 2 points into consideration would this gearbox I have sourced from the ST205 still be O.K to use in the ST215?

  2. Hello, Not being a mechanic I was after some thoughts on my gearbox issue. So the gearbox in my 5sp man 97 Caldina GT-T has started not going into gear properly under spirited driving or highish rpm up/down shifts, particularly 2nd-3rd shifts.

Under normal driving it is perfectly fine and not noticeable but when driven with some gusto and shifting gears it does not engage gears and the shifter feels like its disconnected from the box itself and all that can be felt is the spring tension on the shifter. Also in 1st at around 6K rpm a small bumping sensation can be felt coming from the trans.

I have been told it could be a nylon bushing or something at the end of the selectors slipping? But not being a mechanic cannot take this for gospel....

Anyone out there have any better guesses/ideas. Could it just be shagged?

Easy fix? Chance of finding a new gearbox or cost of rebuild if required? I know its going to be a bitch to remove...

Thanks in advance for any input received.

  3. Im unsure which type it runs from factory, but you can run the cast fork on a pressed fork box but not a pressed fork on a cast fork box. so in other words cast fork will do both boxes, with the exception of running the correct throwout bearing to match the fork. If yours is originally a pressed fork box you will just have to space your slave cylinder out slightly. Most guys swap in the cast fork due to its strength and due to the fact that it is longer ,which gives you a slightly lighter pedal in car

got a few cast forks here if your in need of one....

this applies only to turbo caldina E code gearboxes not non turbo gearboxes

Ok so until its apart there's really no way to tell... Maybe i should just get a cast fork from you, and then order a clutch kit that's the cast fork specific one and go from there.

Daniboy how can I get a cast fork from you, how much ect. Are you in Brisbane and do you want to help change a clutch I have no experience but want to give it a go, knowing its a crap job. Have been quoted $1500 for a clutch place to do it and installing a organic kit.

    Cheers Mike

  4. flywheel will need machining (you should always do this when changing a clutch) and yes, it is a prick of a job. I have done the clutch on a ST185 celica before and it sucked.

just call a clutch specialist to get a price for a kit, if you are in Brisbane I would recommend Direct Clutch Services at albion, I've used them before and they were well priced and helpful

Thanks for that..yes Im on the north side of Brisbane so Albion would be handy. I will give them a call..

    Thanks again

  5. Hello, Was after a clutch kit for my Caldina ST215 (3SGTE) and was wondering would a clutch kit for any "S" motor fit my car eg. celica turbo or other models that run an "S" motor. Or can anyone recommend a clutch kit to me that will fit, and how much will it cost to install roughly?

Would love to do the work myself but I can imagine its a **** of a job and Im not a mechanic, would give it a go if I could though with help. Im guessing the flywheel would need machining also?

    Thanks Mike

  6. did you resolve this? could be a fuel filter problem...

Sorry.. not been on this site for a while but i did a fuel filter change and it was still happening. So i pulled out the spark plugs and one was loose, checked the gaps on them all and reinstalled...problem never happened again!!!

  7. Caldina ST215 Started rough today and the check engine light came on.. It was shut down and restarted with the light coming back on moments later going out and everything back to normal... After a short drive down the road it started doing it again and the car was fighting to gain speed, hesitating rough engine sound and check engine light ect. About 5k's down the road i entered the freeway where it came good again, drove the 15k's down freeway and exited about 10k's after leaving f/way it started it again. and continued doing this for a further 15k's until i got home...

Anyone want to have a guess what might be going on? I am concidering getting a obd2 code reader to see what codes have been logged.. but any ideas would be fantastic..

    Cheers

  9. I have upgraded the exhaust turbo back and will be looking into turbo and exhaust manifold upgrade aswell as stonger rods for now. Seems to be running a little rich..could be o2 sensor? How hard would these be to source?? Would running rich be due to the extra flow from the new exhaust??.. Thanks for replying Mick.. as you can tell im not too cluey when it comes to mechanics ect...
How do you know it's running rich? Do you have an aftermarket wideband sensor on it? Or strapped it to a dyno to get the AFRs?

Hey Dave no i don't have a wideband nor have i had it on a dyno.. I'am just speculating.. The fuel gauges in these cars seem to be a little inaccurate I filled up with fuel last night as fuel light had just come on not far from my local servo and it only took 40ltrs to fill the 60ltr tank.. so its probs not as bad on fuel as i first thought as fuel light must come on quite early on the caldina...

  10. Maybe i should just look at getting a piggyback and the o2 sensor done for now...i have already cleaned the throttle body out and blew a huge plume of black smoke out of it..Other than the exhaust car is stock at the moment except for the optional factory hard pipe ... car pulls 14.5-15psi without a boost controller which is nice. Any other help i can get would be appreciated as the internet offers little in the way of support/mods for this vehicle.

Another quick question..Am looking at getting 17''rims can anyone confirm that its 5x100 stud pattern and would it be +40 positive offset? Or what offset i should be looking at.

Also anyone know anyone with a caldina i could connect with in the Brisbane area..

    Thanks

  12. I was thinking about changing to oils in my Caldina but have no owners manual to see what type i need..was looking at doing the engine oil and transmission is there anything else i can change the oil in ..rear diff?, and what type of oil will i need for these components..Can anyone suggest a good brand of oil???

  13. Oh...Ok . Well is the stock one any good or would you suggest one to change to? The car is stock except for 3'' TBE.. Seems to be a tad thirsty than i thought it would be ..no big issue.. Any ideas for mods on these cars, is there a Caldina section in this club??

Looking at the internet there doesn't seem to be alot you can do to these cars without making major changes.. they go pretty hard stock..

  14. Hi .. Am new to this club but have been reading threads for info for a few months now. Have Imported a 1997 GT-T Caldina and is just getting a turbo back exhaust put on by a friend in Melbs before it gets up to Brisbane. I have a couple of questions about other mods for it . Are the Tein lowering spring a good choice?, What BOV to put on it And where would be the best place to purchase a good quality Timing belt kit for this model..

    Thanks for your time..

    Mike
