Howdy all, I have a 1993 Celica WRC Trophy that has been passed onto my missus for second car duties. Rego is up in a few days and as women are prone to do, she's left it till the last moment to get the rego inspection. Two different mechanics have independently quoted around $1200 for repairs to get it to pass (involves replacing a pipe where there's an oil leak near the timing belt - bit sketchy).
It has 150,000kms on it so it's relatively low mileage for its age but has been thrashed a bit. School ferrying duties have given it a lot of dents and scratches, the aircon doesn't work and the power steering feels like it's on its way out.
At almost 20 years old, it's given good service so it's time to upgrade (she wants a RAV4 and nothing will change her mind). I'm reluctant to even attempt trade-in being so close to out of rego and without stumping up for the repairs we can't sell it privately. Wreckers I hear will only do around 3 - $500 so at a bit of a loose end how to dispose of it for the best value.
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the heads up mate, not real experienced in selling cars out of rego but considering the paltry trade-in or wreckers option, it's probably the way forward.
