  1. My daughters 2005 Camry has/had the same issues.

Tried to fix the clock, videos available on-line to show how it's fixed, but I'm a klutz when it comes to electrical work.

Fixed the auto shifter light myself. There are a couple of videos around showing how to get to the bulb (T5 size A.K.A. grain of wheat bulb). They're available at all auto parts stores and larger servos. 2 to a pack. Be careful as you are removing various plastic bits to get to the bulbs. Not hard to do at all.

The bulbs in the climate controls I haven't fixed yet...same sized bulbs apparently.

    I hope this helps.

  2. Broke my centre console latch the other day.

The wreckers said I'll need the lid as well (they didn't want to sell just the latch).

Went to the local Toyota dealership to see how much a latch is new and if they're available.

    Ready for this?

$8.87 and I'll have it in "a coupla days"!

Part number: 58976YA011 (striker console AE9#).

  3. In a word...yes.

When I've had cars with a manual gearbox, I changed it yearly (around 40 thousand K's usage per year).

10 years? Yep, change it. Check the Owner's Manual to see what type you need.

As you may know, some of the auto transmissions fitted nowadays don't even have a refill plug, as the Manufacturer says the fluid will last the life of the car. Don't do it! Get it serviced!

    Nothing lasts forever!

    I hope this helps.

  4. Just to let you folks know...

The battery died on my Altise (122,000kms) when out driving and had to jump start it to get it home. The charging light did not light up. The battery was only 7 months old.

I started to price alternators ($250 - $300) and then I thought that the only thing that really goes wrong with those things is the regulator. My decision was based on there was no bearing noise, the alternator was clean as a whistle and the car has only done 122,000kms.

I jump started the car again to see if there was any charge going to the battery, but at 2500 revs, the battery read 10.4 volts. It has to be the regulator.

So I priced a genuine Bosch regulator from a local Auto sparky and bought it (Bosch VRG236 "REG 12V LATE CAMRY 4 PIN") for $120.00 and fitted it myself.

Fixed. It took 1 hour start to finish. The only trouble I had was actually removing the alternator after removing the 2 mounting bolts; it was stuck pretty good and there was a great deal of "my goodness, this is hard to remove" words spoken quite loudly...

It really isn't hard to do.

  5. Bought my daughter a Camry Altise 2005 the other day. Nice car.

Joined this Forum to see what I can find out about the model and no doubt ask some questions.

    Neil.

    ...better update my details too!
