  1. Hi there,

Just wondering if there were people out there in Sydney currently diagnosed with Glandular Fever because I need your blood.

I'm serious - It's for my PhD project. I only need a little bit (standard 4ml).

    PM me.

    Lucida.

  2. Which reminds me, anyone put a stivo engine into an AE82 or AE92 yet?

I heard there have been talks on twincam.org but don't think anyone has done it as such... the only problem with that is to actually find a decent AE82 or AE92 worthy enough of this conversion :P I sure as hell wouldn't want to see a 2ZZ go into a blinged up ricey POS.

  3. Have you done something about this yet? There is nothing I hate more than thieving c*unts who think there is nothing wrong with abusing/stealing/vandalising OPPs. Nothing makes me angrier and more potty mouthed. Now go and do something about those guys.

  4. Spotted a facelift black Conquest with stivo rims on Gilbert Street (plates AUH ***), Cabramatta around 1pm... Nice, clean ride mate.

love to see that in cabramatta =)

    Yeaaah, it was in Cabramatta.

I still drive there to get my fix of asian food, despite living half an hour away :)

  5. Am now finishing my PhD on molecular virology at the end of the year. My research work is on developing a novel Flavivirus DNA vaccine. Flaviviruses includes: West Nile, Japanese encephalitis, dengue, and yellow fever (for dave :P). This work has recently been published in a very high impact international journal; for those in the field you can find it here: Nature Biotechnology (2008) 26:571-7.

Guess I won't be of much help to most of the members here, but if you want some advice/info on viruses (the real ones :P), vaccines, and stem cells, feel free to PM me, as Mish has done so already regarding the flu vaccine.

    David

Impressive. You forgot to mention it's in Issue Number 5 :)

  6. I don't think resale value is any good in the corolla as there is so many 2nd hand ones for sale

The number of cars for sale has nothing to do with resale value. Re-sale value has more to do with how much a car depreciates from when it's first bought.

Edit: For example, a brand new car X costs $25K. Five years later it sells for an average of around $20K. Another car Y of the same value sells 5 years later, but can only sell at an average of $15K. Which car has the higher re-sale value?? X of course!

Agreed that Civics hold their values. Reputation has a lot to do with this also (as goes with other manufacturers).

To get into the Corolla vs Yaris argument again, Corollas have the reputation of "they just keep on going and going and going"... But of course, I am biased :)

  7. Agree on the re-sale value comment above. Also, it might be worth considering if Toyota decide to replace the Yaris with another small car (Starlet --> Echo --> Yaris), you'd be stuck in a small niche when it comes time to sell. Corollas are corollas. I doubt they'd get replaced anytime soon. If Toyota did decide to do it, it'd be suicide, like the Tiida replacing the Pulsars (imho).

  8. You might find this helpful - http://www.toyotareference.com/#CO

Looks like we have the same colour car. I've been told it's a "steel blue" colour. Can't remember hte name of the code nor could I find it on that chart.

Have you thought aobut getting the Touch Up guys to "fix" that scratch? I too have a scratch on my front bumper and the Touch Up guys quoted me around $200 to get it fixed. Not bad imho. It's better than paying $800+ for something that could get scratched again the next day, month, year etc...

  9. I have taken my car to CHT recently as I heard great things about them from a colleague who gets her car serviced there religiously but I must point out a few things I didn't like (maybe the person who's on this forum and works there can tell them).

The first time I went there alone without my partner, I was treated like a dumb girl. The man that I spoke to looked up from his desk and asked if I need help. I said yes, and waited for him to get up and walk to the service/enquiries counter but he didn't. He just sat there and spoke to me from his desk, which was about a meter and a half away. I thought this was very rude. Strike One.

Another thing I have pondered is why their services are a little bit dearer than Parramatta Terry Shield's Toyota? I asked about their 80K service and he quoted me x amount. I was taken aback as this was more than what I was quoted by Terry Shields. Strike 2.

The parts team have been pretty good to us. They were recommended to us by a Toymods member and we have used them a fair bit recently. The only downside is that they have no idea about application of their parts (I think they should have a fair idea of how things fit together) or who/where to go to get things fitted.

  10. Replacing the Toyota badge with the lexux badge is stupid and try-hardish. Although Lexus are part of the Toyota family, you might as well be wearing a t-shirt saying that you bought a Corolla only because you couldn't afford a Lexus <_<

I have seen a white ZZE corolla with a lexus badge and instead of the "seca" bit on the tail gate, it said "Lorenzo". Now how gay is that?

  11. :help:

    Well i have a 2001 Corolla Conquest.

And i recently bought a fog light kit off Ebay.

But i am having alot of trouble fitting it.

The instructions are all wack with hardly any information.

Wondering whether someone has had the same problem as me, and how to fix it.

Or if someone in the Melbourne area is willing to install it for me, i am willing to pay them for it!

Im just really needing the fog lights in before easter weekend as i am travelling to Adelaide.

    Please help me guys!

AFAIK after market foggies as well as Toyota genuine foggies are not simply plug and play. You need to take them to your local auto electrician to get them installed and hooked up for you. Depending on which kit you bought, they might need to make up new brackets for them. The clips that come with the foggies for some stupid reason do not clip on at all. The bloke I talked to quoted me around $200 bucks to get them done.

  12. but i was looking for sumthing more powerful and was wondering how much work it actally was to put in the 3sge ? if anyone has sucessfully put one in an ae82 corolla let me kno how it went is it worth it???? cheers bek

Bek, to answer your question - a 3SGTE has been put into an AE82 ([Mikey] from the early Toymods days) successfully but from memory, required quite a bit of work, work that shouldn't be done by someone who doesn't or wouldn't know how to do it themselves.

Edit: just did a quick search on Toymods and found this thread - http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.p...te+ae82+corolla.

  13. GIO came out within 10 days to assess our place but don't know when they'll get anyone out to fix the damages. My partner's car is at the panel beaters as we speak and should be ready for pick up this weekend :)

It pays to stay on hold until you can talk to your insurance company ;)
