  1. Im from SA!! And the factory is definately not closed!!! Its the third largest TOYOTA plant in the world!!

So they aint gonna just close down bru! Japan 1, Usa 2, SA 3

My cousin and his wife works in the plant!! He works in the Hospital!!! Thats were they do major repairs! like Engine replacement, gearbox problems!! on brand new cabbies!!

About the standard! Dnt think its low!! eg. Coz my cousin says that if there is a small scratch on the windscreen, u and me wont even notice! They crush the windscreen and fit a new one!! Even a headlight or bumper for that matter!! a small mark on the headlight and it gets crushed!! If the colour is slightly off on the bumpers then respray till its rite! no gaps must be there too!

And btw!! The inspectors and quality managers are mainly japanese!!!! Ofcourse there are south africa managers!! But the main/chief quality inspectors are all japanese!!!

  2. Sorri for the Bold text guys!!!

Gonna fit the CAI back on my car this weekend and do the ECU RESET properly!! Lets hope it makes a diffence!!! Either than the CAI, my car is stock standard!! I was thinking that maybe the CAI is only really effective with a good performance exhaust ( 2 BOX mandrel bent 63mm )!!

Care to comment!! Any one with just the CAI done only!!

  3. I HAVE A CUSTOM BUILT REPLICA OF THE CES INTAKE!!

76mm STAINLESS STEEL BANDREL BENDS!! AND A SIMOTA DUAL CONE FILTER!!

I HAD THE BATTERY DISCONNECTED FOR an HOUR!!! SO I ASSUME THATS HOW U RESET THE ECU!!! OR AM I WRONG!!

ALSO MAYBE I DIDNT BLOCK THE VACUUM PIPING PROPERLY!!!

GONNA CHECK THE HOW TO SECTION FOR CAI!!!!

WILL GO FOR A SPIN IN NAUGHTYS CAR FIRST AND SEE WHETHER ITS WORTH IT!!!! MY CAI IS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO HIS!!!!

  4. I Also fitted my CAI to my 2ZZ!!

At first it was freaken LOUD!! In LIFT! It was like a Vicious Dog Bark!!

Its got a bit softer nw tho!!! but definately still far louder than stock air box!!

However I feel the the original air box and filter gaves me better performance!!!

Also with the CAI, U got to warm the car up before u can drive!! (Very irritating considering the fact that Im on the road the whole day) Also the car battles at 1000 - 2000RPM and has a FLAT SPOT AT BOUT 4500-6000RPM ( Around there )!!!

    Any one with similar probrem????

I feel as the CONE FILTER COLLECTS DUST/DIRT its gets softer!! ( Thats what I experienced on my CAIon my old car)

  6. there's SFA "R&D" in a CAI. 3" tube with a few bends and a couple of brackets... it's not rocket science.

I'll send you pics and the MAF placement measurement to get one made, I'll also send through some pics of the MAF airflow straightener you can get the guys to fabricate and weld in to ensure you dont have a "faulty MAF" with 3" tube.

If you can get 2.75" tube from the throttle body to the MAF, and continue along about 50mm in front of the maf, and then expand the tube out to 3" and continue with 3" tube to the pod filter you will have a CAI that performs very well, with no need for a silicon reducer at the throttle body. Can just use a section of 2.75" hose to join it.

Please post sum pics!!! That would be a great help!!!! I gonna call the guy whose doing the CAI and tell him to try and use 2.75" pipe!!! Thanks

  7. IF I IMPORT A TRD INTAKE FROM THE USA IT WILL COST R2500, CUSTOM MADE R600!! BIG DIFFERENCE!!

THATS IN SOUTH AFRICA WERE I AM!!

That equates to ~$430AUD to import a TRD CAI, or ~$100AUD to get a custom item made in stainless.

The logical choice is pretty clear.

    trd cai??

    LOL

jk jk i'd say dw bout the hassle and just import it in with that extra cash u will feel much better having a brand name in ur car ;) lol and trd cai is better i'd say cuz most of the guys have a trd cai and injen

    MY 2 C E N T S

MY MAIN CONCERN IS?? IS IT WORTH IT??? DONT WANT TO SPEND A FORTUNE A ONLY GAIN TO 1-2 KWs!!!

  8. OKAY!!

SO THE TRD CAI is approx. 70mm and is made of Aluminuim

AND THE CES CAI is aprox. 76mm and is made of stainless steel with aluminium Ceramic coat paint!!

BETWEEN THE TRD AND CES CAI WHICH IS BETTER AND WHAT WERE THE GAINS ON THE CES CAI!!

If I got the guys to do mandrel bends on I pipe then it would cost me a fortune!! So the guys are gonna buy mandrels bends and piece them up!! I have a sample made up. So I gave the guys to make a duplicate of that! The sample is made up 76mm stainless steel and in ceramic coated!!

IF I IMPORT A TRD INTAKE FROM THE USA IT WILL COST R2500, CUSTOM MADE R600!! BIG DIFFERENCE!!

THATS IN SOUTH AFRICA WERE I AM!!

IS THE CES CAI WORTH IT GUYS???? THEN I WILL KNOW WHETHER TO CUSTOME MAKE MINE!!!!

  9. Guys I had a problem with engaging and disengaging of gears during normal driving! I have to leave the clutch and press again for a gear to take and that was at 2500-3000 RPM!! :(

Also to get gears in lift was almost impossible!!!

I thought the gearbox was damaged BUT i put and original TOYOTA CLUTCH KIT and skimmed the flywheel slightly!! AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!

To get gears in lift is no problem now and the gears are much smoother!! Man wat a difference!!!

I suggest any performance clutch kit or original toyota but dont put any aftermarket replacement stuff!!! you will definately regret it!!!

  10. for the live of your shocks I'd say Eibach

I had Tein S-Tech before and they are great gut you need shocks to match, the stock ones become too bouncy real fast.

So wat youre say is that I need to put SHORTEN SHOCKS (KONI) or REPLACEMENT AFTERMARKET SHOCKS (GABRIEL GASRYDERS OR KYB)???

I was under the impression that the TEIN STECH would be fine on standard shocks!!!

    ????????

  11. Hi Guys!!

Had a look at the SUSPENSION section in the ALREADY COVERED ISSUES by Northy but the outcome was that COIL OVERS was the best option!

Not all of us can afford to buy COIL OVERS! So wit that said!

What would be the best option between the 3 SPRING KITS BELOW :

(Considering the fact that the original shocks are gonna be used?

    1. Eibach ( approx. 30mm )

    2. Koni ( approx. 35mm )

    3. Tein ( Front-50mm Rear-35mm )

    Thanks again!!

  12. what country are u in?

In Oz, the earliest model Sportivo's (ie like 1st half of 03 only) has much larger headers that the late 03, 04 and 05 models.

apart from that, there has been no changes to the sportivo in regards to exhaust work.

Im not too sure about overseas though

I'm from South Africa! I have the first spec Rsi/Sportivo!!

So is the new spec or old spec headers better for performance???

well, the old ones obviously because they are larger

OK COOL!!! NOW IM SMILING :)

    THANX FOR THE INFO!!

IM GONNA DO A 63mm 2 BOX EXHAUST SYSTEM ONLY THEN!!!
