  1. Hi there ..

Well i found the article - I tried searching again for it on the site but it does not come up - mind you it was quite old. translated from google into english ..

model which the TRD sends to all drivers which enjoy

    the car.

  2. .. you guys are lucky that they at least using a semi - synthetic at your dealers in AUS. In South Africa they use a 20W 50 - Castrol GTX 2 mineral oil :-(

i have recently changed to castrol edge 10W 60 - car is smoother through the rev range but a bit noisy on idle.

  3. I am from South Africa and have bought a strut brace from the US intended for a Matrix XRS and it fittted perfectly.

I have also read on some threads that guys from the states refer to C-ONE and TRD part numbers for chassis parts and also on this forum.

 Now can anyone tell me what the extent to this exchange is possible ???

for example can we buy their coil over kits ect ..

  4. i've been watching this topic rather closely - the heat is incredible -

here's my 2 cents worth - i don't have timeslips but this info i've managed to get for south africa ...

stock sportivo - 15.5 (cape town -sea level - 95 octane fuel)

    16.3 (jhb - at altitude - 93 octane fuel)

the fastest time i have seen is 15.01 - the car is decat and runs a 57mm freeflow exhaust according to my knowledge without a header - this is in durban at sea level with 95 octane fuel.

a friend of myne will be going to a drag event there soon - he will be getting some slips for us - so we can have a look :-) will post them as soon as we can get it.

  5. Hi there ...

After much discussion with various tuners here in South Africa the major problem encountered on our 2ZZ-GE's is the fact that fuelling is out considerably !!! They all basically gurantee at 7kW at the wheels increase with some claiming increases of up to 18 % over stock in some instances !!

We basically have three options available other than going stand alone -

    1. Dastek Unichip

    2. Perfect Power SMT-6

    3. RAM Mapping

Each person says that their system is the best and works on the 2ZZ-GE, but when i ask for references and dyno's to back up claims it all goes quiet.

So basically i love my car and don't want to do the wrong thing.

Guys could you please help me with advice - I would appreciate before and after dyno's to. What are the trends in Japan in this regard - From what i have seen they favour the Apexi Power AFC II, TRUST E-Manange, but i can't seem to find any concrete on our cars specific.

Also what octane fuel do you guys use ?

Have any of you tried Octane Boosters ? Do They work ??

You can even e-mail me directly tparker@oldmutual.com

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  7. Here is a pic of the new RSi from the South African Toyota website:

The new model in South Africa is getting a little trip computer in the sound system, average fuel consumption, average speed, etc.  Otherwise it doesn't look much different to the old one, just the new front end.

To me, the old Sportivo had more differentiation over the "lesser" Corolla models, but that's just my opinion.  :)

    Hey, that's my 100th post ... do I get a prize or something???  :D

    hi buddha ...

Just to let you know the RSi and all our models for that matter always had the trip computer , with average and even real time fuel consumption ... the main difference is that my one has a single disc and the new car has a six disc in dash unit but it looks the same from the outside - also they get a steering control for the sound system .. i heard that toyota south africa supplied the cars to austalia without head units ???

  8. looks really good .. i've also just fitted 17" wheels

    what do you think ???

Looks nice. We got similar wheels on Saturday, but they are gold lightweights. (Black Body)

Problem is, looks a damn sight higher! :(

these wheels are also suppost to be light weight ..not as light as the OZ's but at least lighter than the factory ... Gold will be stunning on a black car !!! Let me see some pics as soon as you fit them ....

After quite a bit of fighting with toyota south africa, as my car has a full motor and service plan - i was a bit afraid to lower it - they said it would only affect my shocks warranty and i said cool ....

  9. If you dont mind me asking, has the car been lowered?

if you are reffering to me ..yes 30 mm Eibach pro kit ..not very low but good comfort i guess ...

here's a pic before and after it was lowered

  10. Hey Eddy dont worry mate was not retaliating or offended in anyway. The first part of the post was just a little tongue in cheque/fun with the rest just trying to explain my reasoning. E-gene had it right in his post after.

I agree with you that to get the issues sorted out all stivo owners need to stick together. As I have said in other posts a few years back I went through all this with BMW. After 18 months of hard slog we were able to get them to fix the cars we were complaining about. I just could not be bothered starting the whole process again, just too busy with work & enjoying the little free time I have to do it all again. Believe me after this battle you will probably think the same.

As regards having spent the money to fix all the issues well I had with the clutch, but my gears had been grinding for 6 months before that so in the back of my mind always was the thought of what damage had already been done. I also had a dash that was B grade at the best. It rattled and squeeked more than an old bed in a honeymoon suite which Toyota would not remedy. The frustration I was feeling in this situation only a couple years after the same as with BMW was just starting to ruin my enjoyment of the car... And that is why I bought it and modded it. For me cars are the only real hobby/passion I have that gets me away from and forgetting about work. They are my stress release. When your stress release starts causing more stress than work then it's time to re-evaluate.

This is my reasoning and I am only explaining it so you can understand my decision. If Toyota had of fixed my issues within the first 10 times I raised them then I can state with absolute certainty I would still be driving the Sportivo. As I keep saying I loved the car just not the company behind it!

Are you turning up at the meet. If you are I'll buy you a cold drink. Truly was not having a shot at you!

    Cheers mate

    i wasnt taking the ***** livfor6

im just saying seems a few die hard stivo owners are now getting rid of there stivos and getting other cars.

**** id dump the stivo first thing gor a new rx8 howeva not evryone can afford to do this.

it just ****s me that the people who premoted the stivo when i first got onto this site saying how great a car they are. there now getting rid of the car for another and blaming it on toyota australia.

you and peekay had already spent the money on the stivo so there was no more issues with em. so i couldnt see why you would both get rid of them to spend more money on a new car. if the stivo was so good.

anyway toyota australia are hopeless i dont dissagree with that at all but like i said on another topic we need to group together to get the problem fixed.

anyway i just think its good a few of the boy got there cars into the show. and theres still people on this site who love the stivos.

i was starting to thiink evryone had changed there mind about the stivo.

    good stuff guys

    both hot looking rides.

at least theres still people on this site that appreciate the whole stivo deal.

and not just selling up and moving on lol :D

Damn your right eddy... seeing thost pictures (& they do look impressive guys - well done) I regret trading my stivo. What was I thinking.... It's time i should right the wrong....

Selling 1 slighly used metalic blue RX8, will be happy to do a direct swap for sportivo (and no I am not talking about you bill)..... Any takers... Anyone :P :P :D :D :blink: :P :D

But seriously though I probably would not have traded the stivo if Toyota Australia had shown a little more loyalty to their car and customers. Best bang for your buck in my mind still, just a pity I had to pay for my own clutch to be able to use it, not to mention the Dash that creaked/groaned/rattled & vibrated even over the top of my radio. She and I divorced out of frustration not because I did not love her no more!

Still can't beat that lift experience though

this is extremely strange !!! i have exactly the same problem and toyota cannot do anything about it in SA - That is one of the mian reasons why i would want to sell the car - not that i do - but toyota just foes not want to play along - i have been complaing since june this year and they just fix one thing at a time and then you must go back and back and back - 18 times all in all - let's see ... my cat has packed up and been replaced after three visits of them telling me nothing was wrong until the thing completely let up - my car did not want to start , they replaced the battery - few days later same problem - alternator was then replaced - gear selector was replaced - ecu and airbox was replaced - clutch pedal is sqeaking ??? still a mystery as well as my dash - my right hand side switch for the electric windows make a rattles - still not fixed - oil sumped leaked - was told to wait for 30 000 k service which was 8000 k's away before they fixed that - and i can go on trust me ...

another question for you guys .. do you guys also suffer from a wind noise problem - especially in the back .. the rubbers do not seal properly.

  11. hi Takumi, i thought that the new facelifted stivo's alredy on sale in S.Africa?  hmm if it'd be available there on Jan as the earliest, then it would take at least 2-3months to get to here!   so May 05 seems to b realiable  :o  dats sux ! anyway thx for da info guys!  :)   oh btw Takumi, when was the facelifted corollas on sale in your country? Aug? thx again.

somewhere around there ... there are loads of the hatches on the road already, just not the RunX RSI (STIVO) - they are giving some excuse about making some improvements .. the crap thing is that even the a few of the lesser models now have the optitron dash and even the leather seats :-( Also by the way , the Sedan was also launched at exactly the same time which was strange for toyota ???

  12. Hi guys ..

This issue is close to my heart and i have spoken to several stivo owners in South Africa - For example the issue regarding the handling - a car with that sort of power and torque should at least be lower and have a few other aids to help. The problem is that most guys never ever complain and just accept things. When i initially spoke to Roger Griffiths (customer relations manager TSA) he was shocked when i told him that the car had a handling problem, he promised he would have a technician have a look and even suggested i take a drive with the tech to show him exactly what i mean !!! That was early september 'sh but to this day i am waiting for this phantom tech to appear even after several e-mails and discussions with him. I have complained to everyone from the salesman to the head huncho at TSA but like you guys have said they just don't want to hear. Because they are the biggest selling car maufacturer they don't seem to listen or care about us small fish ? that attitude sucks - mazda will run after us aswell or any other manu becasue sales are precious to them, keeping the customer happy is important to them but to toyota we are just numbers.

To me this car epitomised the evolution of Toyota - i don't think you guys know how many things toyota fans missed out in SA through the years due to politics and fuel - SO when they brought ZZE 123 chassis here, needless to say i was ecstatic. Had to do quite a bit of jugling and sacrifices to get the car.

In the first place this car is not easy to drive compared lets say to a Golf GTi 1.8 turbo - but the car is rewarding when driven fast. So many guys have been put of by this and sold the cars to buy the competitors offerings if they were looking for something sporty - as these company's encourage you to lower the cars , don't curb you on much you rev the car. The service manager at my local dealer also told me that i should not rev the car till 8000 , i laughed in his face ?? Why make the limiter at 8200 then ???

I want to keep the car but i just wish they can sort out the problems !!! otherwise i will just have to sell it and buy the competition.

PS - Do you guys have the Civic Type R there ?

  13. i don't mind you guys having a go at my dyno :-) I drew the lines for me to compare it to some other graphs i pulled of the net .. just to make a little worse that dyno was prior to the the ecu upgrade with a broken exhaust cat (which i think increased the power). I wanted to see what the power curve did and the torque did compared to some other guys ... i've a copy of one without the lines ...

PS we are sea level - so according to my knowledge normaly asperated cars suffer at altitude ????

anyways anyone know how to raise the rev limiter ???

As nish said the performance is satisfactory - i believe the secret to getting the 1/4 mile times down is to get the car lower, strut brace the front and rear bottom and top and ofcourse the trd clutch/flywheel and LSD :-) although toyota sa will just say bye bye to our warranty and would probably love to cancel our motor plan .. ps is there any benefit to fit the rear piece of the exhaust - the sportivo part ?
