Got my 2003 Sportivo V6 Camry cuz a good friend moved to US.
Rather reluctant buy at first but got offered a good price for a car that had done less than 80K.
Now done nearly 100K. Absolute trouble free motoring (except for a dead battery after 2 months when I came back from o/seas) during this time. I get Toyota service every 7,500 kms.
While power is not stunning, its not half bad.
While looks doesn't turn heads, its not ugly either.
All in all an honest car that gets me from A to B in relative comfort and peace of mind that I may be able to get another 100K without any hassles.
Fingers crossed.
I bought my 99' 2.2L is because it is oz made, the door is much heavier than overseas model. I found i still can find some genuine parts from overseas with very low price. But anyway, it is rarely a chance to do overhaul service. Good on Camry!!!

i want to disable the factory wireless control so i can put in a much more reliable remote control system in,and un program the remotes so nobody accidently uses them,so how do i un program them from the system programming them is easy ,but how do you do this?
im sure if you take your car to a place to have an aftermarket alarm system professionally fitted, they would be able to override the oem system, but only so that it overrides the immobiliser/alarm. they would probably still work for the door locking actuators in the central locking
Hi mate, where can you find afermarket remote? Coz i just bought new remote from Southside Toyota, it was working well in 1st month, afterward, it is mulfunction. I am thinking it is out of battery as they may store it for ages.
Also, my remote is for 99' 2.2 model, and i can not find a seam to open & replace battery, does anyone know how to work it out?

Bought new in April 2003...now has 117,000 on the clock.
My 99' 2.2 Camry is 204k now, still running well & smooth. Very reliable, coz i spoil him with 5000KM motor oil/10000KM auto oil replacement..hehe..

here are couple of photos of my CAI setup.
Wow~ it looks nicer with blue silver pipe, by the way, will it make more dirty on ur throttle? coz it is hi flow sys, i guess?
If it is, how often do u usually clean ur throttle by cabby cleaner?

<------ TIP ~$20...
Not sure how a tip could possibly change the note, stand to be corrected however
^that's right! that's a 3" tip! I used to have it and no sound different after putting it on
Hey hey~ The purpose of the toyota tip is design for decor and chic. Not for noise, mate~

is your camry a v6 or 4cyc? if its a v6 try cleaning the PCV valve (4cyc doesn't have it) and also the EGR. Buy an "upper engine cleaner" and clean the Throttle Body.
if you have tried everything, if it still happening, try resetting the ECU.
Let me know how you go....
Hi, I just cleaned PCV Valve for My lover: Gen4 4cyc, the valve is connecting btw throttle and engine top, did u say the gen4 4cyc have no PCV valve? What about the vavle i just cleaned, what is that?

Yeah dont get me wrong though, 15W isnt going to kill your engine... it is rated for -10 to 30 degrees (5W is rated for negative temps!). BUT from everyone I know who is knowledgable and when you think about it common sense in a way... you want as thin as possible because the thinner it is, the quicker it gets throughout the engine. And given the advances in oil, once the vehicle is up to operating temperature there is no negative effect of having a thinner oil at start up as they are usually 5W-30 compared to say 15W-40... not a massive difference. And on top of this your car manual should have the car rated for these other viscosities.
Here is a LONG article which I also found useful when I was deciding on what oil and intervals to change etc:
Tks 'aussie_camry' ! Very good knowledge sharing~ I think i may go for thinner start (now go with 15W-40)...recently looking for Edge 5W-30, perhaps i can get my 99'Camry service in coming week. I will share my afer-use feedback if it has some differences .
By the way, the article also talked about the DIY magnet stick on oil filter, good try~ Anyone did it too??
Last Sat. Supercheap had a hot sale for 20% off, i quickly grap Edge 5-30W as it was only one left on the shelf...huh...
then rushed to my "private mechanic" (a mate of mine) to get oil change, oil and fuel filters change. The result is good,
more smooth accelerator in mid-high rev, i believe the oil vicosity is lower than my ex-oil-15W-40,
the less flow resistance happening in the engine. Certainly, the fuel could save a bit~
By the way, Camry Gen 4's or All Toyota's Fuel filter is not ezy to replace...i can see my mate wiping sweat so hard!!

not a problem.
The upload did not take that long actually. I was surprised too.
I did the upload while also surfing the web wirelessly while also watching TV last night so it was quite easy to do
oh...i excuse me, bother u again, Vivoman~
I found the "diagnosis" file is error and 3~400k only. Possible to contribute complete "Diagnosis" again?
Tks a lot~

I believe no matter what kinds of top range spark plugs need to come with high performance lead to boost up its max. I heard 'top gun' this brand, you could find in autobarn or normal mechanic shop, but not sure the price for V6 Gen4?? I think it's real Oz made....
@ present, i am using NGK lead-power cables have thicker outlook-9mm with blue color; the acceleration is much more joyful and quick response when u kick down.

Hi Vivoman~ it looks you have exactly same model as mine, Gen 4, do you mind to share it by uploading upon below website.
It's very appreciated if you could help~
Done.
Sorry I was too lazy to label them, but these are the lot that I downloaded from the website the other time:

Thank you so much, Vivioman~
The huge upload size must keep you awake till late mid nite....
Recently, i found ignition system could be too old to operate nomrally, i am guessing it is somewhere in ignition coil,
anyway i'll check regarding to the bible with ur fully contribution. ^^

Those manuals have been invaluable!
I downloaded the whole load of them very early on just so that I have them in case they become unavailable suddenly...
Hi Vivoman~ it looks you have exactly same model as mine, Gen 4, do you mind to share it by uploading upon below website.

Well, struts and springs were installed tonight, and I still have that bloody noise! (Sounds crunchy going over some bumps)
From research I had done it sounded like the springs were sagging and rubbing against itself, but now I don't know what else it could be... bushes have been ruled out, suspension has been ruled out.
We're going to jack it up tomorrow and check with a little bit finer detail. Will post any results we get!
So, I ended up getting BOGE (which is a re-badged / same production line as KYB) and Kings, and I can tell already I'll need to replace the rears, now... *sigh*
But the ride is a little bit more comfortable, so there's a plus
Oh...I think it is scratching noise from some parts of rubber underneath, it could be temp. solved by lubricating. By the way, isnt Boge a German Brand certifed shock supplier by BMW? Pls correct me if it is wrong.
-
i use it over and over and over again... i'v already downloaded the gen2 gen3 n gen4 ones... helped out heaps plus they save u $40ea...
It seems a free website, but while i am d/l the gen 4 manuals, it stucks in 1st page, no further response from the server...sigh....is everyone having the same problem, too?
-

Thanks jbjb... looked up ngk and denso websites... thinking of going ngk 0.6 irridium plugs... aparently will last 60,000km the 0.8 irridium will last 100,000km but the smaller the tip the better for performance...
i really need a hi flow exhaust but got quoted $1,000 plue for a s/s custom... will have to wait a while...
would like to get these wheels first...
Hi DJ! Go for silver~ Iridium is even worse performance than cheap Copper~ Did u receive my PM?
17" Mag.. Wow...it will makes ur Camry really muscle~
-
@jbjb,
Were you saying if I'm only replacing the front struts that I don't need to replace the springs?
I want to replace it all so there's no one weak part, and have to replace it just as quick!
Thanks for your input, though.
Got some prices, it's going to be $330 for the KYB shocks, and $155 for the springs.
I should go to Super Cheap and get the springs for $140, but I'll see if Wholesale Suspension can match the price =)
Yes, one of my mate used to work for toyota workshop, he mentioned Oz camry's spring is very taugh and durable, so i only replace 4 shocks(struts). The result of it is fantastic~ No more seasick ~ hehe..
I am not sure what series of KYB you got it from the dealer and what year you are. My Kyb is black (not blue) for 4 shocks only $450, genuius part (Made in Jp).

Isnt there a sticker under the bonnett that says only use twin ground electrode type spark plugs... namely toyota / denso or something you buy from the toyota dealer??
I went into autobarn and they told me about the irridium plugs... mine are due for their first change soon and i want to learn to DIY... i bought a gregorys repair manual and should have enough tools to do the job but im not sure weather to go platinum for $16 / plug or Irridium for $22 / plug... oh and i want hi performance leads too...
Im reading these pages every night...
any one got prices for parts?
No worry about the label from Toyota, coz the reason why they stick with that plantinum is to maintain the durability (100,000KM interval) and their reputation as well, but sacrify the performance. Perhaps you could refer below conductivity table, it could help u to come out best one.
Properties of Materials
Material ElectricalConductivity(MS/m )
Silver 66
Copper 57
Gold 45
Iridium 18
Platinum 10
Nickel 10

Ummm fuel economy is a tricky beast. Some cars with the same specs run quite differently. There are slight manufacturing differences. I find BP 91 works well for me. ;)
Getting a chip to optimise your engines fuel curve/power is the best. Also interesting to note that I think our car has the same engine as the Tarago and the RAV 4. in those guises they have slightly different power and torque. Could be different computer program could be exhaust. But the Australian standards get around 10L per 100k for the Tarago, which weighs 200kg more than a Camry….
Evil as some may think there are some claimed fuel saving devices I am trying one at the moment.
This may be a bit off topic but where can I get a K&N air filter for an 05 2.4L in Perth?
You can check ebay.au, what year of urs? i found a guy selling it for 91~99 Camry.
-
I just installed front and rear KYB onto my 99' Camry last week, it works much better than before, steering is lighter but smarter. KYB is a really good quality Jp brand, that's why i selected it. Overall I just replaced with shock absorbers w/o change coil/spring. In ur case, if you only replace front shock, you would not need to change ur coil even lower it.
Lower only front will cause you lost of balance for ur steering and driving stability.
-
One hint to you & save ur money. You can adjust ur spark plug gap to 1.3mm with normal copper spark plug, and it definitely gives you more pwr coz i found the electrical conductivity of copper is much higher than platinum, and bigger gap will have big spark plug as well.
-
Thats the first Ive heard Platinum spark plugs increasing power! In fact from what Ive read at forums with far more knowledgable people then myself is that alot of performance cars (Turboed vehciles and the like) dont go with Platinums as due to higher combustion temperatures they cant withstand it as well.
Hey i reckon platinum spark plugs is worse invention for a performance seeker. I am a great spark plug taster, has experienced platium/copper/iridium.....i found platinum is worst at performance...but at least very durable..100,000KM.

The odo of my 02 advantage (3L V6) is about 95K and I got it serviced recently with a new time belt. It seems it takes about 12L/100km in average. Judging from your posts, the fuel consumption seems pretty OK. However, I keep tyre pressure at 32psi. Isn't it too low?
My Camry is 99' Model 2.2L, i pumped up the tyre to 36psi, better acceleration and save fuel too. But I did install high performance NGK spark plug lead. It is better torque than before...
What engine oil u run?

Hi all, i'm using Edge 5-30W, it runs better than others. Coz it is lighter in viscocity, so i believe it can be pumped up quicker to as start my engine. And, it also benefits with higher liquidity flow. Cheers
