My battery was flat 'cause - remote wouldn't work, could not start car, map lights no light etc. Eventually had to get RACV to change to a new battery as he said jumping the car could risk destroying the electrical components. It is disappointing 'cause the car is only less than 2 years old and batteries in a newish car are meant to last longer than that!

    How much did RACV charge you for a new battery? I don't suppose battery replacement is included in Roadside service. Unless you want to use you car immediately. you can purchase a battery charger from Kmart and recharge it for at least 12 hours (depends on the model of your charger, check the charger manual and 'battery flat section' of your Aurion manual for electricity output). It cost a lot less than a new battery and I see no reason to replace a car battery since it is flat, not dead.

    It is also a good idea to check you battery fluid level every year because battery fluid checking is not included in car servicing. I had a fluid dried battery on my previous Camry only a few months after servicing from Toyota dealer and my car mechanic friend told me they will only check battery output level during car servicing. Your battery passes the test if it has a minimum output. Since battery is not included in car warranty, they do not care if your battery is dying or not.

    When battery fluid is dried out and you can see the metals, it is dead; it won't revive even if you refill battery fluid into it. On your regular maintenance, fill distilled water in when the fluid is getting low. Do not charge battery too often and dilute battery fluid too much because it will lower battery life. With proper maintenance, you battery should last for at least 3-4 years before a replacement is needed.

  2. I was more worried about the reverse camera, I dont have any tools to cut that hole in the boot out. And what about the wiring for it? Do I have to take out my rear seats to do it?

    I go on a really long road trip on the 19th, I just wanted it to be done properly before I left. I was afraid if I did it myself I would miss some issues that I wouldnt notice until I went on the road trip. Seeing as how I will be in the car for 17 hours I kinda wanted it to be perfect when i go.

    For the reverse camera, it depends on the model of camera/Aurion. My ZR6 already has a reverse camera hole, but my IR camera is too big so I spent half and hour to enlarge the hole with a simple saw. No power tool is needed.

    About wirings, you don’t need to remove your rear seats, there is a hole to the boot behind the rear seats at topside, find the hole from the boot and it will give you an idea where the hole is. You can squeeze you hand in behind the seats and get the wires through.

    May be you can install the head unit first and install reverse camera after you return from your trip. I found it very hard to watch anything from the screen at daytime because of bad panel design, unless you also make yourself a cover to block sunlight to the head unit, the reverse camera is only useful at night, so no hurry to install it if you don’t have enough time.

  3. i got a couple of verbal quotes once i explained what it was i am installing. Both guys said 3-4 hours work equals 2-3 hundred dollars. I wish someone had said $50 bucks

    They are trying to rip you off for sure. I am an accountant with absolutely no mechanical background and it took me about 4 hours to install my unit included all the wirings for reverse camera and TV antenna. I just followed the DIY guides from sticky posts here. The first time is hardest because the seals are tightly fitted and you have no idea where the clips and screws are. Now it will only take me 5 mins to remove my head unit. Unless you cannot afford to spend a few hours on your car, I do not recommend to get it installed by "professionals".

  4. i would ***** the unit off all together and get one of the auspack units,pretty happy so far with mine,and you can put at least four different gps programs on,of which ive found the mio igo8 to be the best,,, i love it,,the interface is so useer friendly and its intuitive input too.

    Shame the overall unit ain't so crash hot. Mine is left on the iGO8 screen pretty much all the time, so the isn't so bad that way. The unit is alright for its price though.

    Which version of iGO8 you are using? I am using Windows CE 5.0, it keeps saying cannot load loading.bmp in folder 400x320. I checked data.zip and the file is there. Or is IGO8 ver 8.0.0.44366 too new and I need to use some older ones?

    Thanks, I finally found out what is going on. In my DATA.ZIP /ui_iGO8, I only have these resolution folders: 480_272 and 320_240

    Now this unit is running at 480x234, when I rename 480_272 to 480_234, the lower part of the screen is missing. If I rename 320x240 to 480x234, the software is working, but the output is squeezed to 2/3 of the screen.

    Now downloading the correct resolution definition from the link and it should work this time.

    Reception is ok. The problem is my head unit is it can only switched to PAL I, M & N from menu and Australia is using PAL B/G. So I only have black and white picture with no sound.

    The one problem of this unit is poor documentation. I tried every button in menu, including muling the sound and all of a sudden, the system switched to PAL B/G. I have no idea what had happened but at least I can watch TV now :)

  7. Anyone able to get TomTom or iGO8 PNA running in this unit with Windows CE 5.0?

    I tried many versions of TomTom and iGO8 but none of them works.

    I cannot get iGO8 to load up at all, I have already checked the sys.txt is pointed to correct location (app="%SDCARD%/iGO8" when my iGO8 folder is at root of SD card.)

    TomTom 6 and 7 loaded, but cannot find any map. My map folders are at root. Since it is not PPC, I cannot edit the register and I don't know how to patch the exe to point it to my maps folders. My card name is TomTom, not sure if it is the reason why it is not working.

    If you are able to get any GPS software other than Route 66 working in Windows CE 5.0 environment, please tell me which software, version and your setup.

  8. With the remote, the code is stored in it, and pairing it with the car should not make any changes to it. All that they do is program the ECU in the car to recognise a particular key. I could be wrong, but I guess Mohit would be able to confirm this.

    If that is the case, does it mean that:

    1. every key has a unique code.

    2. You let the ECU of a car to recognise a key, not programming a key to recognise a car.

    If that is the case, it means you can have 1 key to have access to 2 cars! It will be a serious security issue if you purchase second hand remote.

  9. Can anyone give me some suggestions on which sort of TV antennas is better for the after market head unit? Can I hide it at the top of the vent and under the dash next to GPS antenna? Or I have to stick it to the wind screen/roof?

  10. I just installed my unit today and everything works fine including steering wheel DISP button.

    I did not purchased from this shop, I just use their photos as I am too lazy to uninstall my unit out to photos. I am not as handy as DJKOR and it took me half a day to install it. The 'Steering wheel control line' I used looks the same as the wiring harness DJKOR posted, please confirm. So I have no idea why my steering wheel buttons are working but yours don't. You sure you plugged the steering wheel control line into the black cable behind the unit?

    I purchased my unit from here, at AUD695 shipping included. It was when AUD was high.

  11. From what I read in Camry service manual in the sticky post Navigation system page NS-162, the steering pad switch assembly is slightly different with Aurion's. Since the aftermarket head unit is designed for Camry, it is not surprising that display button won't work. Can anyone upload a copy of Aurion service manual to see the wiring setting of Aurion's steering pad switch assembly?

    I think you better have a look at the Electric wiring diagram.

    The manual is on this forum one of the pinned at the top.

    It gives you all the details of eclectric wiring diagram of GSV40 Series and ACV40 Series.

    The GSV40 is aurion.

    I saw the diagram but personally I have no idea about Electricity thing.

    It does show some diagram of steering wheel buttons too so someone please explain what we have to do. :lol:

    I am talking about that sticky post too. It is US V6 Camry service manual, GSV40 is not Aurion but Camry V6, they are 99% the same but not identical, at least DISP button is not. If we have the real Aurion manual, we can compare and find out which one of the 4 wires from steering pad switch assembly is DISPLAY button and jump it to the correct spot in Head unit.

    Of course, some one who is familiar with car electronic can study the US Camry service manual, find out which spot is DISPLAY button and test all the 4 wires by trial and error.

    I don't think anyone out there has leaked te Aurion service manual. We need someone nice enough from Toyota to do that for us first.

    As for the DISP button thing; I've looked into it, and from my perspective, it is definitely a digital circuit. I have tested both from the point of the steering wheel controls and from the end of the harness at the stereo end. I would help to find a solution if I could, but I don't want to risk destroying something that works, without first learning about the backbones of this system.

    My testing wasn't extensive, but my readings were from the stereo end:

    Purple: 0V when ignition is off - 10.97V when ignition is on.

    Pink: 0V when ignition is on or off - 4.69V when DISP button is pressed - 10.97V when parker lights are on (will remain at 10.97V even if DISP is pressed)

    Orange: 0V when ignition is on or off - 4.69V when DISP button is pressed - 10.97V when parker lights are on (will remain at 10.97V even if DISP is pressed)

    Yellow: 0V when ignition is on or off - 4.69V when DISP button is pressed - 10.97V when parker lights are on (will remain at 10.97V even if DISP is pressed)

    As you can see, the pink, orange, and yellow all behave the same when the DISP button is pressed. One interesting note is that pressing any of the audio buttons on the steering wheel gave no readings on those wires when pressed. These conditions can easily change when they are in circuit.

    Page AV-92, you can see the 3 spoke type is similar to our Aurion steering pad switch. Assuming DISP is the the one unlablled gate at the right of off-hook gate in RH side circuit , it is using both EAU and AU2 to signal the HU. Now since DISP is part of a circuit, it is normal that pink, orange and yellow lines will have readings when you tested them. But by looking at the circuit board from your photo, DISP has another contact point, which is separated from EAU and AU2, now I am really confused.

    View angle: 92 degree

    169 has a wider angle but seems too big to fit into the hole above number plate. 167 is small enough but the view angle is too limited.

    Anyone installed these 2 types of cameras before can tell me if 169 is able to fit somewhere else without fixing the whole unit outside the car, or 92 degree view angle is good enough?

  15. I am planning to install an IR reverse camera for my ZR6. I browsed ebay and found many choices. My questions are:

    1. Are CCD camera a lot better than CMOS camera? Or just provide a little bit clearer image.

    2. Where is the best place to install camera? There are cameras which can put on top of licence plate and fixed by licence plate screws. Most cameras require hole drilling. Should the camera be installed under the car or inside the boot?

    3. Anyone installed one of the cameras in ebay and can provide feedback?

    I have an IR reverse camera for mine. It came with my head unit, but it is one of the IR ones you can get from eBay as well. I have mentioned it, together with my a few words on installation here:

    To answer your questions:

    1) There is quite a bit of discussion about CCD vs. CMOS. CCD's do offer better low light performance, but do cost more than CMOS. In the case of the reverse camera, if you were going for the best low light performance, CCD would be the way to go, but personally I don't think it's worth the extra money in this scenario.

    2) This all depends on what you have to work with. If you read my tread posted above, you will see that I was quite restricted in my mounting options. I eventually used the most typical spot for camera mounting which is right above the number plate. Mine is mounted through the boot lid itself with an opening cut in the plastic trim surrounding it to enable the camera to have a decent view.

    3) Well my IR camera is an eBay style unit, so I guess you can say that I've installed one. Day performance is excellent and the field of view is great. Night time performance in complete darkness is alright, but due to my mounting position, a lot of IR light is reflected back at the camera at a close proximity which clouds up the image. I will be working on a solution for this (sealing the surrounding area) when I eventually have some time.

  17. i wanted it to be removed so that i can see how fast it can really go. ive got experience from germany and turkey autobahns so for those that think i got no experience because im on my ps, your wrong. i have received track driving lessons in austria. i have not took the aurion to the track here yet because of my studies as i got no time for that at the moment. plus im not going to risk over 240 on the eastern freeway. only place is the nt and road trip towards queensland. one slight bump on the road ofcourse at over 240 is critical but those that got nothing to do but give **** to people, dont tell me you guys dont speed. i do think of the loved ones and it does sound crazy for australians because you guys have never seen those speeds but its quite normal in europe. why do you think freeways are 100 kmh limited down here?? because australians have low experience. i just wanted to share somethng with you guys and all i get is hassle. dont think the aurion is not safe at high speeds. it is. its all up in the drivers hands.

    I am sorry if my friendly advice offended you. You are a hot shot, so go ahead and have fun. Just don't do it on public road. You might jeopardize other road users' life if you do.

    I only drive within speed limit, will speed up a bit on situation like using overtake lane on country side of course, but I never develop a habit like most drivers who take speed limit +10km as normal. I was honked, flashed, tailed and even fingered by angry speeders often. Some people just don't like to speed, so keep the accusaton 'dont tell me you guys dont speed' to yourself.

    As I said, people NEVER LEARN until it is too late.

    and basically wants to be a hero. Little does he realise being a P plater you dont have great control of the car and even less so at those stupid speeds. Go on the track and get those speeds if you can handle your car well enough to get a decent time.

    And no i havent been on the track, for several reasons....

    Yes, there is a limiter around 242 km. I watched a clip at youtube that no matter how hard the peron accerlate, the speed does not go beyond that speed.

    People will not learn until they are in trouble themselves. I never speed but I drove to the speed limit ignoring any road condition, until I had a serious car accident this July when I drove throu a slippery surface, lost control and rolled over into an 8m embankment. My Camry was a total loss, I lost my memory on the accident + 2 hrs before the incident, but luckily I broke no bone and suffered no internal injury. Only have a 6 inches cut on my head, spent a few days in the hospital. I am very lucky to be alive because I was driving in country area 7 in the morning and I could have been bleeded to death before anyone found me.

    I used to wonder why people drive so slow in rainny days, now I know and I will do the same although my ZR6 has a lot more safety features than my poor camry.

    You can do it does not mean you should do it. Think about your love ones before gambling with your own life.

  19. It is a loophole of the system. The car should have been statutory written off because of the broken C pillar but not because the car doesn't exist. Repairer can only hide the damage but not able to fix a broken pillar car to it's 100% unless the whole body is replaced. It is a matter of life and death if the car rolled over. Good luck to the innocent third party who purchase the repaired vehicle if it was purchased by a dishonest repairer for a profit.

  20. Hi all,

    2 weeks ago, I took my Presara to a dealer for a check up (around 2,500km). Today, looking at a small ticker on the windscreen which shows my next oil change is late Feb-2008. Again, reading thru the manuals which say the car has 7,500 km service intervals.

    My question: Do you know any car which requires service every 7,500 km or only the Aurions ? (I thought around 10,000 or 15,000 km).

    My 2003 Camry also requires service every 7500km. I think it is standard for Toyota
