  1. My '05 stivo is starting to crunch when I downshift from 3rd to 2nd in high revs around the 7000-8000rpms range.. Clutch is completely fine though. I'm considering changing the whole gearbox & clutch since I've got my tax return back haha :)

I've read up on the threads here about the clutch master push rod but will that stop the crunching for good? If it will then please recommend an experience mechanic that can readjust.

By the way, any suggestions for a suitable after market gearbox & clutch for a '05 sportivo corolla?

    Cheers.

Is it worth to change the gaer box at the same time? Mine one is 10 years gear box orz... thanks

  2. Looks like the Exedy (Japan performance part manufacturer ) OEM or HD is the best fit from the comments about 200-300 AUD. But need to get a factory (toyota) flywheel to fit it. And the labour is about 300-450 AUD. To get the hardware is easy today, hunting a machanic is hard, if you rely on dealer from the car born like me.

I think I will get a Exedy OEM one, since my sportivo engine is old, I guess a heavy duty one will consume more engine life. Is that make sense? If it is not, I would like to try the HD one :)

I found something may help for people search Exedy dealer http://www.exedy.com.au/australian-distributors

  3. Wow

Honestly, don't take offence, but if that's how you describe a slipping clutch "high revs no power" it's poor grammar man.. Or poor choice of words

When u say lack of power usually means driveline is fine but the power has decreased..

Slipping clutch is best described "drive my car in first but the front wheels don't spin but rpm is high and cultch is disengaged "

Sorry for the misleading in words.

I have seen you from the following topic, . Could you can give me some advise about a clutch replacement in VIC. The people said toyota genuine part is not good =.=" I am confused...

  4. Maybe one of you is the toyota dealer technician. The sales person kindly report to me I need to change/replace the Clutches after test drive. Frankly, the quotation is doubled what I expected.

Can anyone introduce a good workshop in vic can do this?

I found an OEM part here:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/EXEDY-CLUTCH-COROLLA-ZZE123-SPORTIVO-1-8L-1ZZGE-2003-06-/150821695944?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item231dac71c8

but not sure if this is worth or not.

I want toyota parts :) thanks.

  5. Thanks, sounds like the spark plugs, I wish it is not transmission or gearbox. I will bring it to the dealer and check it out.

    https://www.toyota.com.au/owners/parts/engine-drive-train/spark-plugs

Common signs that your spark plugs need to be replaced include:

    • Difficult starting
    • Unstable running
    • Engine misfires
    • Increased fuel consumption

Thanks again :) I dont wanna get a new 2012/13 ZRE182R now, because it looks like a mini tarago (personal opinion) hehe

Is it a manual? clutch might be slipping?

Given that its a zze123 i.e. sportivo it will be manual.

There are so many reasons why this could be happening

as mentioned it could be the spark plugs are done

it could be u have a coil pack no longer working

it could be a dirty maf sensor

it could be the butterfly valve in ur T/B is not functioning properly

as dumb as this sounds it could also be that ur 2 front tyres are flat

without a proper drive of the car from someone who knows a bit about cars its hard to say where ur issue is

  6. Thanks a lot everyone. Simply said I give the vehicle fuel, but it does not pickup immediately and need to use more rpm than normal.

I have service every 6 months with Toyota all in log book.

In the past the car start sound very nice like this, eheheheh.... bom! bombom!...(loud and strong) but now.... it is ehehehehehehehehhe... ehheheheheh.... bom! (weak and low volume sound)

  7. Ok dude that doesn't make sense

It need to start with high rpm and have a delay ? Which looks like not enough power ?

usually when I step on the accelerator at 2000 or 3000rpm, it will go and respond quickly at gear one. But now I need to step on 4000 or more rpm then the car start to move, it took a longer time from 0 to 24km/h. Which I feel I need more power to power on the car than before.

  8. I have faced this issue for a while, I have asked around, but no body can answer my question.

the zze123 is about 190000k, it need to start with a high RPM and have a delay, which looks like not enough power.

Anyone have experience and similar to this case? is time to trade in for a new one?

updated 20-2-2013: Toyota advise to replace the clutches, can anyone introduce a workshop in VIC?

    PM me, and many thanks

  9. im in the 28-32 group, and more than happy with the stivo

i sometimes wonder if there are just too many youngens on here and what i'm doing here.

but then i said I'd get a golf gti, and everyone pasted me for it

so i still got the sportivo. 4 doors, wife enjoys driving it, plenty room for items for house and rental, always carrying dishwashers, sleepers, surfboards, oh and the dog, that requires a hatch.

i saw your other post, my list is gti golf, xr5, mps3 (don't shoot me gav), all four doors, all hatches, all slower than my lil stivo around the twisty stuff, hence i haven't shifted.

    whitestivo

thanks, i am looking for other chance ...

stivo is very good, I really enjoy :P) but it is getting old now... :(

  10. my little black is getting old, day by day... but still can feel its power.

however, old car is going to get higher maintenance cost and insurance...

i am thinking to change, but i cant find anyone can replace it from the market...

Celica with the same engine, but the outlook is a bit <_< ... hard to say here  , just not my cup of tea

new version corolla Levin, 100kw and heavier body :( ... not a very good choice...

    Any ideas bros...

  11. Meanwhile, the rear sway is sitting at home, waiting to be put in. Just have to figure out the logistics of how (without paying for it to be done!).

Its a pretty easy job to do, it is just 2 bolts that are torqued up pretty tight. If you look through some of the sway bar threads (maybe the Whiteline GB) I outlined the steps involved.

    To the original poster.

I found the front strut's effect was very limited, gave a little more front end traction due to reducing the axle tramping a little. The rear strut made a bigger difference since the rear of the car is a bit soft. But if your after a mod that will actually improve lap times/mid corner speeds, then the rear anti roll bar is the better buy. If you own a Sportivo and are on a budget do a swap for a 1zz rear antiroll bar, it is 21mm vs Whitelines 22mm and 23mm for TRD. You'll be able to pick up the standard rolla anti roll bar for cheap at the wreckers, or free if your grandma owns a rolla. But if you have a 1zz rolla just grab a Whiteline anti roll bar since it is a lot cheaper than a TRD or Cusco one.

(note: anti roll bar = sway bar)

thank you. my one is ZzE123 '03-'04 version, I dunt know it is worth or not. :)

    Regards
