  1. 2001 V6 Conquest, auto.

Apart from transmission fluid change at 60000k($50), 1 new set of front pads(429), brake fluid change(now due again), coolant change($17, also now due) the rest is just regular oil and oil filter changes at 6 monthly intervals(around $35) plus time doing visual inspections as per service manual is about it. That's over a 6 year period. Dreaded plug change is just about due as I am at 98000k..

    Runs like a clock....

your brake pads cost $429 to change??good ***!

they must be racing pads or something lol costs me $120 or something like that to change mine and be careful with ur coolant change use the toyota oem stuff or stuff that is recomended by toyota ive heard stories of engines dying with cheapy coolant.also every once in a while get a good tranny fluid change such as drop the sump clean all the crap out and change the filter and sump plug/plate.

  2. There isn't a way to inspect but if I leave the timing belt and it IS an interference engine the engine is ruined but if it isn't thats great but I have no way of knowing 100% either way andI was hoping for some feedback from other gen 4 owners?

  3. Hey,

Just a quick question I currently have 185,000kms on my 1998 Camry V6 Csi but I've heard alot of different stories can someone clear this up for me? I need to know for sure if the 1mzfe is interference or non-interference engine? I bought the car @ 165,000kms and not sure when the belt was changed. I had a mechanic from a shop take a look at it and he said its def been changed not long ago and is good to go till 250,000kms but im still worried. I'd rather not change the belt only to find out the previous owner changed it not long ago and it be a massive waste of money. I have done all the small stuff by myself such as changing the oils, coolants, filters(fuel filer is a bitch) but im not sure if im ready to take on a big job like this. What I was hoping was that its non-interference and I can drive it till it breaks without doing any damage to valces/pistons.

    What do you guys suggest?

  4. Not necessarily I bought my 98 Camry from a private auction in Belmore Sydney haven't had a single problem with it at all I think it all depends on how well you actually check the cars before they go out on auction and how many people turn out to the auction if there are heaps of people don't bother the prices will be inflated.

  5. This sounds completly false.....I used to own a VS berlina and honestly I don't ever see a corrolla pulling away much from a VS maybe the first 100-200m but then its over unless the guy driving the VS is either a crappy driver or too chicken to go balls to the wall.

The VS I had was supercharged but even the ones I've driven stock standard they are powerful for a "family " car but they can't handle for crap.

  6. 1.Lick your finger a couple times

    2.Start your car

3.Expose the RED wire with a knife

4.Lick your finger a few more times

    5.Touch the exposed wire

    6.Get electrocuted and fried

    :D

    lol

But srsly don't you have a multimeter check for voltage on the wiring should be around 12v

  7. $500 max include everything/labour... + good quality? it doesnt make sence. sorry, but i m just being realistic.

$500 max, u can get sound into yr car, i agree with tat.

I did't say including everything I might not get a sub at all i might get some good 6x9s and good 6" speakers and I'll probably be happy with the bass in those with a decent amp....as I said i don't need DOOF DOFF really loud quality i only need decent quality i don't see how that isn't achievable with $500?

Also I'm asking for help so I need some useful advice!

  8. Is it really worth getting an expensive amp like that to drive my stock speakers?Won't they just blow the speakers? How good are the stock speakers?Would these Kingwood or yokohama ones off ebay be any better?Which speaker brands or places should I be going?

I've been to autobahn and they seem overpriced would super cheap be cheaper?

  9. Hi Guys!

I'm new to the forum!Leasurance directed me here though from another Toyota forum!I'm starting to really like this forum and been checking it on almost an hourly basis whilst at work lol!

Right now down to business i guess.....I have almost a complete stock audio system in my 12/1998 Camry csi expect for a EOL Clarion DB_356MP I picked up about a year ago which performs well enough on its own but I like my music LOUD and with a BIT of good bass. Not really an audiophile but was wondering if you guys could help me out.

I was looking at replacing the speakers in the front doors(6" i believe?) and the 6x9"s in the rear I know very little about car audio but was looking at spending around 400-500 max and thats probably gonna have to be with installation since the furthest I've gone with audio installations is my HU in the car(which by the way I'm very proud to say i did WITHOUT a harness :yahoo: and it worked 1st go!) I don't particularly mind if its 2nd hand or off ebay or whatever but I'm hoping to get the best system I can and was looking for any suggestions you guys can offer?is this stuff any good http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...N:IT&ih=016?

I've been seeing all these cheapie kingwood and yokohama stuff on ebay and not sure what to think....I'd prefer to keep it cheap and I'd probably be happier with just a good set of 6x9s instead of a sub as I don't like crazy doff doff stuff that you see people driving around in the sydney cbd at 3am lol

BTW I'm based in Sydney and don't mind driving a bit to pick stuff up im near the five dock area. Also if you guys think I can install it myself and can give me some advice/help ill try it :D

Thanks guys any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED! :help:

  10. why not get a power antenna from the wreckers?

I love the power antenna thingy.... watch it go up watch it go down...

i hooked my antenna turn on wire to a mini switch (i have one for amp and one for antenna... )

so you can have a choice of antenna up or down...

wasnt a problem with the factory deck... antenna only extended when radio was in use... but after changing around to the pioneer deck it was always extended when the deck was on... but not any more...

hee hee.. got to admit i have run out of room to put switches... i even repositioned the dimmer control knob to under the steering wheel column so i could put a trip timer and volt meter switch in.... (volt meter sits above rear vision mirror...ran wires up a pillar)

sorry bit carried away here... :whistling:

    yea... so why the stubby?

    spray paint it white maybe....

How do you install a power antenna into a 1998 camry csi?I grabbed a pwoer antenna from the wreckers but how hard is it to install it?I didn't grab the cabling that runs it only the actual unit..so yeah any advice would be great as I really want to do this!

  11. It's too damn hard to wind it back unless you know a dodgy mechanic that will give you a written order saying the engines been changed cause it looks funny to the RTA when your re-registering your car that has 50,000 LESS kms than it previously had...so unless they can prove they changed the engined the RTA will refuse to reregister the car.
