  1. HEY GUYS, i understand diesel rattle but knocking !?. looks to me big ends again a new motor has bugs this is one and its not the first time i have heard this. god i have just ordered my new workmate troopie v8. fingers are crossed.iI had two 80 LC both turbos and the bigends went in them had them fixed no problems, then my 95 crusier blew up at 137.480klms on the clock. i serviced these units every 5000 klm never missed a service. so this has me hoping that these new motors v8 dont do the same i will be very upset and im sure a lot of other blokes will be too. goodluck guys but please get up the dealers and tell em to fix it asap. remember its always ok to them they dont have to drive them everyday..

Very big call to say this. I have never heard of the 200 or the singhle turbo V8) having this issue. So where else have you heard that the 'bigend' is playing up in the V8 Diesel. If im not mistaken, the V8 diesel has been in the 70 (workmate) series from late 06 and this is the first I have heard of it.

  2. KDSS does take away the sub tank, leaving the 93L main tank. Around town you get around 600km. More for highway. This is for drag racing at traffic lights, smoking nearly every car next to you!! I must say the 200 suspension, drive train, NVH are vastly superior to the LC100. Not as hard, harsh nor noisy. Pulling a trailer full of furniture was a breeze. No extra noises from the components. You can upgrade the suspension shock absorbers and coils, while leaving the KDSS intact.

Nope.....You are wrong. I have an 1/08 GXL V8 TTD and it fitted with both KDSS and the subtank. This is a common misconception. The reason the subtank is not offered in the other diesel models as standard is due to weight issues.

You can now tho, order a VX or Sahara diesel with the subtank, but you loose the KDSS and sunroof.

    Cheers.

Most diesels will knock abit when there cold or they may appear to be a little louder than normal. This is quite normal and due to the engine being cold. You may also notice a knock when the engine is under heavy acceleration.

Just thinking, maybe knock isnt the right term, 'rattley' may be a better term.

In my honest opinion, dont worry unless you notice a lack of power.

    Hope this helps.

  4. I have a GXL and get 700km before the fuel light comes on. Country driving, no air con & its done 20,000k's. It's a great car but build quality is average. 6th gear is useless under 120km/h

Do you have the Petrol or Twin Turbo Diesel.

I now have 22000km on the odo. I use a program called 'CARTRAK' you log all expences for the car. (its leased and the program ensure the lease company cant rip you off). It also calculates fuel usage and economy.

Around town, I average about 11.5 litres per hundred. On the freeway (Canberra to Sydney), at a constant 120kph I have got as low as 9.5 litres per hundred. (with myself, wife and 3 kids).

The most I got out of a tank was 1231KM. This was from Canberra to Brisbane (Capalabar) , up the Pacific Highway. I filled up at Capalabar (light was on) and put in 124 litres. The fuel economy was worked out at 10.04 litres per hundred kilometres. I have to say that I was impressed for such a big car. I always have the climate control on as well.

With the 6th gear issue, mine slips into 6th gear (after the 10000km service) without an issue at anywhere from 95 kph onwards.

I have to admit, I love the power, and because of this power, its made towing my boat (24foot fibregalss Freedom Elite) an absolute joy.

I am more than happy with the LC 200.

  5. in the instruction manual ???

Otherwise just get Toyota to swap one for ya or purchase one off ebay...

Many thanks 11TWO, the manual is in Japanese too..

I guess this is a problem one encounters when an imported vehicle is purchaced and imported rather than buying a local model.

  6. We have 2 LC 200 series glx. one is the deisel and one the petrol. They have both done about 15000 km and we are having huge problems with dust on the interior. It makes no difference weather the A/C on on recycle or not. It comes in through the door handles, window controls. Even the storage compartments in the back tailgate have dust comming out of them.

I am waiting on some info from Toyota but I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Other wise they are both great vehicles.

Mate. I think you will find that its not dust as in road dust from outside of the vehicle, but general dust, same as what you have to dust at home.

I think it seems to be bad, or worse than it is by the fact that the LC 200 has a black dash / console. I used to get a similar amount of dust in my 100 series, but because the dash / console was grey, it was seen less ir just not as visable.

I use a rag with 'armour all' protector with 'dust repeller' on the dash / console area. Seems to work OK.

    Cheers.

Mate.....I can assure you it had absolutly NOTHING to do with the, as you described, "silly hill start thing".

The hill assist control is a system that works on the brakes and is a part of the traction contol set up. All it does is detect (when the car is in drive) rearwood motion and applys the brakes intemittently. at about 60 times per second for about 5 seconds....thats it.

The clunk in a tailshaft issue (not transmission). The tailshaft on the 200 gets longer and shorter as the suspention and vehicle move. The clunk is created by the spindal thread that allows this motion. To much or to little = clunk. Personally, I would be taking it back to Toyota for them to fix it, as I have done, and not try and fix it yourself. Can you imagine if you used the wrong grease, or quantity and Toyota can relate it back to you.....That means you have to fork out your hard earned coin to fix the problem.

With the oil problem, I have used 2 litres in 9150 kilometres. A diesel engine can take up to 20000km to bed in and settle in oil consumption.

  8. My car is 'bog standard' with the factory 17 inch wheels. It is toally un modified in any way. Fuel consumption is consistant. There are numourous posts on this site where various 200 series Twin Turbo Diesal (TTD) state there fuel econom, and its similar to mine.

There no problems with Toyota here.

  9. Landcruiser V8 Diesel 6-speed Automatic Transmission

    Hi,

I am new in this forum, I am from Austria in Europe and own the new Landcruiser since February 18th. From the beginning I was disappointed about the gearbox behavour, shifting gears from one to two and two to three never below 2000 Rpm (even at throttle less than 10%), no lockup function in 4th gear below 90km/h, no lockup function in 5th gear below 90km/h and no 6th gear available below 125km/h.

My dealer wanted to buy back my vehicle without even trying to understand my complaints, but he also wanted to cut off all the extras I have ordered for this vehicle, that would have created a net loss of more than €10.000,-- ; that is certainly too much to be a beta tester for Toyota.

Since this time I am fighting a terrible battle with Toyota Japan and Toyota Motors Europe, they are masters of ignorance of customers complaints, but now, the pressure is getting critical. Because my vehicle needs 40% more fuel at "just rolling" than published and certified by Toyota Motors, I do have a legal arm to force Toyota to modify the gearbox software. However, the next step is an official test by Toyota Motors Europe and then, possibly at court.

Here some return mails I got from Japan:

    March 25, 2008

    To: Mr. Albert Welledits

    cc: TMME Company, TME

From: Tetsuya Otani, Customer Relations Division, TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION

    Dear Mr. Welledits:

Thank you for your email of March 18th and 22nd, 2008.

Fist of all, please accept our apologies for the delayed in reply.

We have confirmed your concerns with our technical department. We would

like to answer following four questions.

1: Gearshift from one to two and two to three never happened under 2000rpm,

even when throttle is opened 10% or less.

(Answer) According to our design spec, gear shifts one to two, two to three

at 2000rpm when throttle is opened 10% or less. Therefore we are not able to

judge the situation that you mentioned.

2: There is no converter lock up system in 4th gear

    (Answer) The lockup function would operate according to driving conditions;

therefore we estimate the situation that you mentioned might happen.

3: there is no converter lock up system at 5th gear at the speeds lower

    than 90km/h.

(Answer) Lockup function does not operate at the speeds lower than 90km/h,

therefore we estimate the situation that you mentioned might be normal

    according to our design spec.

4: there is no 6th gear available when the car drives under 125km/h

    (Answer) 6th gear does not operate at the speed lower than 125km/h;

therefore, we estimate the situation you mentioned might be normal.

We answered above questions based on your email information. There were

other concerns in your message; however, it is difficult to answer all of

your concerns. We would like to ask you to understand that our distributor

in your country “Toyota Frey” and Toyota Motor Europe NV/SA are

responsible for all customer’s concerns in your country. They will contact

you soon to inspect your veheicle again.

Although you requested us to modify software of automatic transmission of

your vehicle at your email, if our distributor “Toyota Frey” and Toyota

Motor Europe NV/SA judged your car as normal, we could not accommodate your

request. However We have taken the liberty of circulating your comments

among related divisions for their information. Please be assured that we

are committed to producing the highest quality vehicles in the world.

We are sorry that we cannot meet your request, however we would appreciate

your kind understanding on this matter.

President Tasashi Arashima of Toyota Motors Europe did not respond at all, from Toyota Motors Europe I did not get a single reply. This ignorance is unbelieveable. The only chance to increase pressure to Totoya is, when the vehicle does not match fuel consumption figures as claimed by Toyota to force Toyota to make necessary adjustment. With his Bull****-Software lower fuelconsumption rates never can be achieved.

    To: Mr. Albert Welledits

From: Tetsuya Otani, Customer Relations Division, TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION

    Dear Mr. Welledits:

Thank you for your email of March 26, 2008.

We are sorry that we did not come up to your expectation.

First of all, we would like to supplement one point that 6th gear does not

operate at the speed less than 125km/h. This condition requires that you

keep accerating. However, once the throttle is off at the speed less than

125km/h and if it becomes at a steady speed, 6th gear will operate. Our

explanation in our previous reply was not sufficient. In any case, your

email has been referred to our distributor “Toyota Frey” and Toyota Motor

Europe NV/SA, and we will ask them to inspect your vehicle again.

Finally, although we repeat our explanation of the software of automatic

transmission, if our distributor “Toyota Frey” and Toyota Motor Europe

NV/SA judged your vehicle as normal, we could not accommodate your request.

We would appreciate your kind understanding on this matter.

Thank you for your taking the time to write.

WELL.....mine works OK....shifts into 6th at about 100kph. Im also getting 10.4litres per 100 kilometres on the highway and 11-12 litres per 100 kilometres around town. Im happy

  10. That 10.3 figure is just too far fetched... our customers are averaging 12-13 l/100km in all of the 200 series TDs we've sold.

Well.....I dont know how your customers are driving the car, but I drive it with a bit of a lead foot at times, and im getting 11L / 100 around town, and about 10.4L / 100 on the highway.

These figures are fairly consistant. I have got about 6500km on the clock.

I use Cartrak to keep a record of all fuel usage.

    Cheers.

  11. Hey Guys.

    I must say Im happy.

My L.C. 200 TTD now has a whopping 760km on the clock. I have just filled the tank up for the second time.

On this tank of fuel, I travelled about 560km. Out of this, I did about 250 on the highway and about 310ish around town.

I wasnt driving like "Miss Daisy" but on the other hand, I wasnt flogging the crap out of it either.

I averaged 12litres / 100km. In effect, going on this, I could 1150 to 1200 kilometres out of the tank.

    Not bad in my books.

    Cheers

  12. I am about to seal a deal to buy a Sahara 200 Diesel with 6 Speed Auto. Small problem is that Saturdays Herald-Sun (Melb) had a article which claimed that the 6th Gear would only engage at speeds above 120 kph. Therefore fuel economy on Highway was around 13.1/100.

Is this a problem that others are aware of?

Ok. Just took my 200 V8 TTD for its first spin down the highway. I have to say that I was impressed. This is the first big run I had in it.

I had the cruise set at about 105 kph and the tranny changed happily between 5th and 6th as the road conditions changed.

    Im VERY impressed.

Also, I forgot to say this before, I have traveled 500km on the current tank of fuel, and the fuel gauge is still above the 1/2 mark. close to 1/3 used.

  14. It does take a diesel engine about 5000km to 10000km to loosen up. (Even my 100 series V8 Petrol took about 10000km to loosen up).

I can remember, (with the 100 series V8 petrol) that my first tank (main and sub) only got me about 600km (out of about 140 litres) before both fuel lights came on. When I sold it, I could get between 850 to 900km out of a tank of fuel (main + sub).

    I wouldnt worry just yet.

  15. I just filled my LC 200 up (first fill from new) and I got an average of 18.19L / 100 km. This was mostly stop start city driving with very little HWY driving. I have to admit, I really enjoy the acceleration......

Anyway, I happened to chat to the service manager of my Toyota Dealership (where I bought the car from) and he told me NOT to expect to get near the quoted fuel consumption figure UNTIL the engine (TTD) has at least 5000 - 10000KM's on it, and more if you 'baby' the engine.

Apparently they need to 'loosen up' a bit.

Oh...did I say how much I enjoyed the acceleration.......

  16. Ok....here is the thing. I picked up my Cruiser 200 TTD yesterday 06/02/2008. I spoke to the Toyota spares AND to rhino.

The LC 100 bars WILL fit the LC 200, if you do a couple of mods. The bars and feet / legs are the same. This is what you have to do.

    1. Replace the base (this is the part that connects the legs to the car that stay in permently). Cost $119.00 from Rhino.

    2. Get the LC 100 bars cut down. (front to 1016mm and centre 990mm. I didnt ask about the rear as I have only got a 2 bar set). Cost $95.00

So, the total cost of the mod or conversion is $214.00.

Now, seeing that I can get a complete 2 bar set from Toyota for $215.00, it makes it unworthwhile.

    Kind regards

    Conehead

  17. Does anyone know if the LC 100 roof racks will fit the LC 200. I have looked at pics for the LC 200 and they look very very similar to my LC 100 racks, to the point where I think they are identical. Dont want to buy new racks if I dont have to. Can any one help.

  18. Just about to receive my new 200 series Landcruiser and I am wondering if the Rear Seats can be "easily" removed. In the 100 series it was jsut a catch and out they came.

The photos of the 200 series makes the rear row of seats look very permanent, and takes away a lot of available room for those coping with only 4 or 5 passengers maximum.

    Any clues would be appreciated

No, its not as simple as the 100 series. You have to remove a plastic cover and unbolt either 4 or 6 bolts per side.

I have just purchaced a LC 200 GXL TTD, (which I should get in about 10 days). When I took the car for a test drive, 110-115 seemed to be the magic speed for 6th gear to engage.

I wonder if this is a programing issue or just ment for freeway driving.??
