  1. After a relaxing trip by the beach we noticed that the sand had swallowed our keys and had to borrow a friend's car to go home and fetch the spare keys.

Does anyone know of an inexpensive way of getting a replacement keyless start remote entry and key as I have surfed the net and read horror stories of dealers demanding upwards of $500.

Why is there no option to start the car with a key for this type of sistuation.

  2. I'm planning on heading up to the snow!

I want to either buy or hire chains.

Konig seem to be the most popular brand, and on their sizing chart for 245/55/19 tyres their chain size is '255'.

The hire/buy store in Mertylford Vic sell the 'Magic T2' or 'Magic V2' for $430, which are self tensioning.

They also sell a Chinese rip-off called the V2 without self tensioning and lower quality steel for $200.

The store advised that I check the owners manual for recommendations, if any, on limitations/advice for snow chains, for which the limiting factor is the clearance between the inside of the front tyre and the steering arm knuckle or other critical components.

My Question is: Has anyone bought or rented snow chains for a 19" Kluger, did you need a special low profile set, and how easy was it to find / buy / fit?

    Cheers, and Thanks

    Roger.

I did similar analysis last year for RWD Grande but did not end up going skiing and hence did not purchase. Looking forward to owners comments

  3. I have traditionally been a lead foot being the first to take off from the lights and the first to get there. Then I bought the Kluger and having the active fuel consumption readout has certainly changed my driving habits.

My driving habits are as follows:

    - Combined driving (250 country / 360 city kms) per tank (63lt) comes in at ie. 63lt/610km*100 = 10.3 (Readout says 10.1).

    - When there is no country driving involved I average about 550kms per tank (63lt) 63/550*100 = 11.45 (Readout says 11.8)

    - When I am away and my wife drives the car average is about 500 kms 63/480*100 = 13.1 (Readout says 14.2)

My conclusion is that my wife is a leadfoot, although the she does do a lot of stop/start runs to school and secondly the Readout is not exact.

I have tried different fuels ie. standard/premium (hi octane) unleaded and to my surprise they have no effect on the Kluger with the exception being E10 where economy diminishes by about 20%. i

  4. This seat is fine for my 9 year old (small butt). Have only used it on occassions though when rear seats not in use (being used to carry cargo). Our typical configuration though is as a six seater.

I debated this middle seat long and hard with the mazda CX9 and found that the Kluger was much better and more comfortable. In the end we decided that this seat would be used very sparingly.

  5. It's worth to get the KX-S if you could afford it. Among other thinggs, don't forget the KX-R is still having manual A/C and single disc audio. The most dissapointing bit abt the KX-R has to be the crappy audio. Yes, this can be easily upgraded and you can get a decent set that doesnt cost too much from JB Hifi, etc. but you run the risk of having the dash scratched. Same goes for other bits that can be upgraded, there's always a risk of damage from dodgy installation job..

There are some other bits that aren't easily upgraded, at least not cheap eg. leather sets, sun roof (grande), push engine start (grande), powered tailgate (again, grande).

But if I can turn back time... I might go for the Mazda CX-9

You must be a small guy. I thought the CX-9 was a much sexier car however I chose the Kluger Grande over the top range CX-9 because:

    It is bloody thirsty

    No Sat Nav

    No Bluetooth

    No DVD

    No remote start

    No electric tailgate

And the driver is coccooned in a very crammed cabin whilst the passenger keeps knocking their shins against the low dash door.

It is also very expensive and Mazda dealers try to upsell this car against the European SUV's but I found that there was only 1 car they hated enough to drop their pants on price and that was the Kluger.

Don't be too disheartened, it took me a very long time to decide between these 2 and I am certain that the Kluger was a great decision

  6. Hey guys, i was going to raise this before i purchased, but i found alot of companies charged $1000+ for rating 1 comprehensive insurance.

Anyone found this was the case? I paid $774!

Wow, AAMI is screwing me 1,100pa (Grande) with 500 excess, Rating 1, over 30 with multiple policies. Toyota quote 1,150.

    Who is your insurance company?

  7. Took delivery of my new toy (AWD Grande) last week and busy playing with all the buttons but having trouble getting the voice dial to work.

I have set up the voice tags but can't get it to work, what am i doing wrong or not doing?

    Thanks

In order for voice dial you have to press the telephone send button on the screen, then press the voice dial and say the name, the stored name is repeated and then you either touch the call button on the display or the call button on the steering wheel.

If you are already doing this make sure that you wait for the beep sound before you speak the name.

I have found that voice recognition is quite good.

  8. I have to admit that Satellite navigation is become a must in the car. You can see some old Nissan that barely worth a cent will have a $300 plus sat nav hanging on their windscreen. I mean their portable sat nav screen is brighter than their brake lights... <_<

What Where is DVD has not catch up on is the current news. I wish woman voice inside the DVD have update her news on the current affair or todays tonight and found out by now that the Eastlink was open a few weeks ago and traffic is flowing well.

However, this lovely women keeps saying every few hundard yards of Eastlink, "next 2km, traffic restriction may apply.... ple...ase respect local traffic regulation."

I really want to strangle her but I don't know which button to push

Now checking on the website, only VDO is updated. Come on, get your acts together whereis staff! <_<

If there is anyone want the V14 version. I am using a copy and working fine, but a double layer disc is required.

Are you saying that the V14 includes redlight, speed camera warnings because that is what the pdf in your link implies.

I think that the Kluger SatNav is a load of crap especially since it costs upwards of 2K. You cannot change anything while it is moving, there are no speed camera or light warnings nor are there any speeding warnings. My wife has a Tom Tom, it is a little slower when calculating the route but she knows when she is exceeding the speed limit as well as where red light camera's or speed camera's are located has bluetooth ability and can play mp3.

However both units suffer from false advertising as their spoken instruction should be accurately called whispered instruction.

Another major drawback is that the screen is fixed and is unreadable whenever there is direct sunlight on it.

If you do not have SatNav inbuilt don't waste your money on the Denso unit.

  9. Dear All,

Anyone can enlighten me if our Klugers has follow me home function for our headlights? As in will the headlights go off automatically after the engine is stopped?? That is if it is on Auto headlights mode. I've read in other forums that it will only go off in a delay of 30 sec and this can be adjusted by the dealership's computer.. Please advice

    Cheers :D

In auto mode headlights come on and SatNav turns to night mode (lack background) when light sensor at back of rear view mirror senses a drop in light and the opposite when an increase in light

Under night sensing mode lights will turn off if ignition is turned off and driver door is opened.

  10. has anyone worked out what Day Mode does to the display? i can't see any difference to the display when it is on or off and the manual doesn't say what it does either. it only tells you how to turn it on or off in the settings menu.

On the Grande Model, Day mode paints the non-trip computer display with a white background while night mode is a black background reducing cabin illimination and glare.

This is also controlled automatically by the light sensor behind the mirror

    :)

  12. Has anyone tried to pair a Nokia N80 to the bluetooth, mine pairs but does not allow downloading of phonebook.

Is there an easy way to do this as I don't want to enter everything in!

  13. Does anyone know how much room to move a Toyota dealer might have from the RRP?
