  1. For those who might be interested, Toyota Japan have uploaded PDF versions of the Owners Manual of the current model range on their website. I don't think there is an english version avaliable but they have similar graphics and illustrations to the ones supplied with Corollas sold here. An interesting browse if you want to compare the equipment functions, layouts and illustrations.

    Auris: http://toyota.jp/manual/auris/auris_201010.pdf

    Blade: http://toyota.jp/manual/blade/blade_200912.pdf

    Corolla Fielder: http://toyota.jp/manual/corollafielder/corollafielder_201004.pdf

    Corolla Axio: http://toyota.jp/manual/corollaaxio/corollaaxio_201004.pdf

  2. Toyota Service Information (E.U.) might have the official toyota one. Although it is intended for the european market, some techinical documents refer to Australia models. I recommend having a look at:

    http://www.toyota-tech.eu

Some free documents but the pay access online subscription gives full access with 1 hour at 3 Euros up to 1 year subscription at 2,400 euros! PDF downloads/full viewing of the toyota and lexus technical libary are avaliable for the duration of your subscription

I have previously purchased a 1 hour subscription and remember seeing the "new car features manual" for the ZRE152 series Corolla with reference to the "Australia" market models (but with strange grade names such as "standard" and "high"). I also saw it explaining the 2ZR-FE engine with reference to the "Corolla/Auris Repair Manual" which is also avaliable at the pay access secton of the site.

The pay access site also has the parts catalogue where if you input your VIN, it will show you your first/new/original number plate registration and an exploded detailed diagrams of each individual part for your VIN. It looks similar to the ones i have seen toyota parts department use in Australia.

  3. yeh the rear are manual windows...

I just had a a look at the toyota website and checked the pricing and the difference between the ascent and ascent sport is only about $1k.. lol .. considering it gets you front and rear spoiler, wheels, foggies, cruise. might be seeing more of these on the roads soon compared to ascent .dont you think? (but the ZZE ascent sport didnt seem to be that popular?)

Not sure yet whether these will be popular. Some people might only want the basic kit and nothing more and some people might see the appeal of an extra $1k for a bit more kit. An idea might be to see how well the medium/large segment Camry/Aurion Touring editions are selling with their extra equipment to get a rough idea to see potentially how popular the Ascent Sport will be .

  4. the ascent sport actually looks pretty good.. but does that mean it being an ascent still has manual wind up windows for the rear?

Yep, it still has rear manual windows. This grade would sit under the Conquest and Levin grades. I assume as the name suggests, its probably like a normal ascent (possibly with the same seat trim material) with the addition of the cruise pack, Levin ZR alloy wheels, fog lights and front and larger rear spoilers.

  5. Went to a dealer and saw the Ascent, Conquest and Ultima sedans in stock (all were built in May 2010 and the compliance plate is now a label compared to a pop rivet plate on the left rear door pillar as in the past). I also noted that the conquest sedan also gets the 2 stage double console box with sliding armrest wrapped in matching seat trim fabric. The sedans also don't get electric folding mirrors and steering mounted "disp" button on the like the hatchbacks (it still makes do with a left and right push button on the instrument cluster like the pre-facelift). It seems a bit of a raw deal for the facelifted sedans to miss out on these features, not to mention particularly the Ascent sedan doesn't get front seat mounted side airbags like the hatchback.

  6. I think it was such a short notice (and kept well under wraps) when the facelift sedan was released last week. I remember reading somewhere that the facelift was orginally due for release around August or September? The press release appeared the next day after (bits of) the website were updated with the sedan details.

I noted that parts of the Corolla website were up to date, whilst others were not (at times the page displayed could not be found message). The e-brochure and specification summary (spec sheet) still reflect the pre-facelift (sedan) model. The specification section (for individual models) for the Ultima sedan still says it has the 1798cc engine despite the headline news its the first Corolla in Australia to be powered by the 2.0 litre 3ZR-FE engine.

Other than that the range, price, features and compare grade sections of the site have been updated to reflect the facelift model. I guess there may be some trade off with the foglights deleted, you do at least now get optitron instruments on the Conquest and the Ultima now has a moonroof option.

  7. Today I noticed a black line in the driver's side mirror of my 2010 Ascent hatch ZRE. It is about 3 cm from the right end and goes vertically all the way from top to bottom. It is on the inside and can't be felt by touching the mirror. I looked at a 2009 Ascent in a car park and its mirror doesn't have this.

I don't see any difference in the reflected image on the smaller end, so it's not like it's a different type of mirror.

The manual doesn't mention this but that line looks like it is meant to be there. What is its purpose?

It is a aspheric type rear view mirror which increases the curvature of the mirror past the black line which assists in eliminating blind spots.

  8. Toyota Australia today announced it will launch an all-new model for Australia, to be known as "Rukus", before the middle of the year.

New Toyota Rukus is an urban utility vehicle with head-turning styling that projects an aggressive appearance.

Toyota Australia's marketing manager Scott Thompson said Rukus is designed to bring young, urban trend-setters to the Toyota family - especially those who have never previously considered a Toyota.

"It will be a case of 'Rukus' by name and ruckus by nature," Mr Thompson said.

"This is a car that's designed to be different, with a boxy shape that has become iconic," he said.

"When it's launched late in the first half of this year, it will certainly stir up the small-car market - creating a 'ruckus', if you will."

Mr Thompson said Toyota Rukus will be offered to urban dwellers as a blank slate.

"It will be loaded with great standard features, but we expect many owners to express their individuality by making their car stand out from the pack.

"That might involve wild paint jobs, funky wheels or other ideas, limited only by the imagination of owners - and what's legal.

"Potential customers have told us they want this style of car. We've listened and we're responding.

"Rukus is designed to be different: it's not for everyone. It's a bit like Vegemite: it's an acquired taste," Mr Thompson said.

  9. Can anyone confirm if there has been some spec changes recently to the Corolla range?

    1. Ascent Hatch and Sedan no longer offer cruise and/or enhanced safety pack as an option

    2. Levin SX no longer has the enhanced safety pack avaliable as an option

    3. Optitron combimeter has been reverted to be standard on Levin ZR and Ultima only

Just noticed these when browsing the site under compare grades and when you click on each individual grade variant (but the PDF specs in specification summary have not been updated). There could have been some simplifying of the production line in Japan

Also, where is the USB connection port located for the audio connection?

  10. I've had a similar problem. It seems to be more prevalent when the engine is warming up and in stop and go traffic. It goes away after a while. However, not sure whether it may be related, but i recently noticed there is a slight faint squeal (like a timing belt slip noise) when the car is cruising or idling when the clutch pedal isn't depressed. The noise stops when you press the clutch pedal slightly (e.g. 1-2 cm)

  11. You can hear the noise (its like some clicks and springs noise) just by applying the brakes like you would normally do, for example, whilst pulling up to a (slight downhill) stop at a T junction or something and only where the road surface where you are pulling up to stop has some bumps and uneven surface on it. That way the ABS will activate as it can detect that the road surface/tyre contact at that particular point is not flat and smooth.

COROLLA GAINS VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) FOR INCREASED SAFETY

Toyota Australia's best-selling car is now safer, with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC) available across the range.

From today VSC and TRC are standard on Corolla Conquest hatch and sedan, Levin ZR hatch and Ultima sedan.

The enhanced passive safety package is included at no extra cost on these models.

VSC and TRC are optional on Corolla Ascent hatch and sedan, and Levin SX hatch, at $1500.

The safety pack also includes front-side and full curtain shield, and driver's knee airbag.

VSC helps maintain vehicle stability during cornering, and TRC helps optimise traction when accelerating on slippery surfaces.

Australia is among only a handful of markets in the world to offer Corolla with a 1.8-litre dual VVT-i engine.

"The VSC system for our 1.8-litre Corolla required special calibration for the unique engine/road surface combination in Australia," said senior executive director sales and marketing David Buttner.

"Engineering resources from Japan became available in time for 2009 Corolla to benefit from VSC," he said.

"The addition of VSC and TRC makes Toyota's best-selling passenger car a significantly safer vehicle for drivers and others on the road."

Toyota Corolla has proven its appeal by ending the sales year as Australia's second most in-demand vehicle.

  13. *Checks 2006/ 2008 Axio & Fielder Brochure*

Hmmm... I wonder how the pollen removal mode function works. Is it something like the Plasmacluster Ionizer in the USDM/JDM/SEA Camry & various JDM Toyotas?

Smart Entry & Start system was standard on the pre-facelift Axio G & Fielder 1.5X "G Editon". It's now a factory option for both models.

If I'm not mistaken, that small button is for the G-Book Telematics system.

Actually i think the pre facelift Axio model's' Automatic Climate Control System did have the pollen removal mode feature. Only the Australian Ultima Sedan and the Hong Kong Version 1.5 Deluxe Version's (they're the only 2 I know of) Automatic Climate control system did not have the pollen removal mode function. How it works i'm not too sure.

I "think" that small button is something to do with that Shiatsu Massager, the button has go a hi and lo and what appears to be an illustration of the driver's seat

Other items of note is that the power rear view mirror switch has been relocated from the left to the right below the driver's side air vent. The brochure also appears to indicate that the Luxel Alpha grade has radar cruise control, but there doesnt seem to be a photo which shows where the cruise control lever is located.

  14. Changes include;

    New grille designs.

    Shiatsu Massager (Corolla Axio).

Wood/ Leather Steering wheel on Corolla Axio Luxel & Luxel alpha.

    LED Tail lights (Corolla Fielder).

    Toyota Blade gains G "Version L" (2WD/ 4WD 4Cyl) & Master G "Version L" (2WD V6). Basically a Blade G/ Master G with brown leather interior.

    Blade Brochure

No changes for the Auris hatchback, except for the addition of 180G "G Selection" / 150X "M package G Selection" special release models. In other words, an updated Auris is coming soon.

    Auris Brochure

it appears that on the Axio models, the Automatic Climate Control system has been revised to include the pollen removal mode feature (like the Australian Levin ZR Hatch Model), but the G model has the smart entry and start system deleted whereas in prefacelift it had the feature, does anyone also know on the Luxel model what that little button is next to the front passenger seatbelt warning light?

  15. Meow! Get ready for a 'lil action.

Last year we established that the current Corolla is the Hottest Corolla Ever. This year, we're taking that message to it's next natural progression. Not only is the Corolla "hot looking" (because it is), but it's also packed with features, inside and out. To reach the elusive 25-34 year old market we've developed a campaign that's bold exciting and unexpected. And most importantly, it cuts through.

The first part of this campaign to go live is the microsite. Dynamic, and styled like an action comic, it has instant visual appeal (just like the Corolla). What's more it incorporates downloads, and carries our message through many places online, where we know this audience spends their time. Places like Facebook, You Tube, Del.ici.ous, and Digg. All of this designed to immediately appeal to a younger audience- an audience that may not have looked at the Corolla in a "cutting-edge" way before. Visit www.corolla.com.au and begin to see what all the fur-flinging commotion is about...

    www.corolla.com.au

    Coming soon...

Our new Corolla TVC purrs onto screens from Sunday November 9.

First print execution hits newsstands tomorrow (5 November) - Attached below FYI

I would have thought that this campaign was planned in the early stages and to have been launched as part of the avaliabilty of stability control which was due for release sometime this year, but still no word, so i guess its a new refreshed campaign for the Corolla, but nothing like new features etc. If you also take note of the interactive "more features" section, try to decipher what all the symbols are trying to tell about the safety and cruise packs "only avaliable on the Ascent/Levin SX models", but it may be fixed soon.

  16. Just got a new Corolla Ascent, in the manual there is an option for double locking. This just means that when you press the lock button on the key twice in 5 secs the car door can't be open from inside the car. This doesn't seem to work on my car, anyone here has this feature installed?

When booking the car I asked about installing an alarm but I did asked if there was a feature on the alarm where the door can't be open from inside and they said no as it was not safe as you could lock someone in. But obviously you won't double lock if someone was in the car and the sales person did not seem to know of this feature so I did not get the alarm.

When collecting the car I asked if the car door was lock using the remote and open using the valet key could the boot still be open from inside the car and he said no but I tried and it can still be open! Read the manual only way to deactivate the boot latch in the car is turn the trunk lock from outside anti-clockwise.

The double locking feature is only avaliable on the Levin ZR and Ultima Models, and unless the windows have been tinted, both front door windows have a label "Toyota Auto Alarm with Double Locking" to indicate that this feature is present. This feature works in conjunction with the smart entry and start system and to activate the double lock, there is a small black "lock" button next to the front door keyhole which you press once to lock, and a second time within 5 seconds to activate the double lock function. The function can also be performed by the same method using the smart entry and start key/remote. The system buzzer also "beeps" once to indicate lock and twice to unlock. All Corolla models however have the indicator flash once (lock) and twice (unlock) for the remote central locking, which the function can be customised i believe, check towards the back of the owners manual.

  17. I was just curios to know if you could tell via the VIN or something on the build plate to know where your was made.

I know our rollas are made in RSA, but a mate of mine is adiment that his is jap made??

Some light on this would be great plus i win a bet!!! :P

Every vehicle's (no matter which make/model or what country its sold) country of manufacture can be determined by the first two letters in the Vehicle Identification Number. For vehicles made in Japan, the first two letters should be within the range "JA-JT", South Africa "AA-AH", Thailand "ML-MR", Australia "6A-6W"

  18. Hi all

I have a 1995 model CAMRY VIENTA Ultima, leather seats and all...

However, I can't seem to find anything on this model really on the internet. eBay or whatever... was this like a limited edition one or something? Because there doesn't seem to be much around on it...

The Camry Vienta Ultima was a regular V6 model. (from February 1993 and built in Port Melboune). Being the top of the range, it carried all the bells and whistles. It was replaced by the Vienta Grande from July 1995 production as part of the Camry and Vienta Range facelift. The 4 cylinder models were then known as Camry and the V6 models as Vienta. The Grande model had a revised audio system, power front seats and digital automatic climate control. The previous automatic climate control system from the Ultima was fitted to the facelift Camry/Vienta CSX models. Other changes across the range was the avaliability of manual transmission on the V6 CSi and Touring Series Sedan model, the introduction of the Toyota Vehicle Security System (Alarm & Immobiliser) this was previously fitted as standard only on the previous/pre-facelift Ultima Model, the Ultima also had the drivers dook lock key cylinder lamp feature and this was not carried over to the Vienta Grande. The only limited edition models from this series were the Intrigue and Getaway sedan models shortly before the launch of the SXV20 series in 1997
