  2. Just so you know, All brake mods and repowering > 120% OEM KW REQUIRE PRE-approval from licensing authority, and inspection when done. May require certification too. Do NOT start without approval in principle in writing. Un-approved mods can cost CTP cover, which may have nasty consequences. Be careful, and getting an engineers certificate is $$$$$$. Read the legals first-download & understand the document VSB 14. (Vehicle Standards Bulletin) & apropriate subsections.

    Moderators, make VSB's a sticky?

    Hi Manxman,

Yeah i am very well aware of what could happen if the components i have modified/installed are not engineered correctly and my insurance provider has been notified.

I have spoken to my engineer and he was the one that recommended the said OEM upgrade, he has signed of on a lot of my work before i.e full engine swaps (with brake upgrades to suit) through to suspension and diff upgrades.

Thanks for your input mate = D

  3. Hey all,

Pretty new to the hilux thing and I have just brought myself an RN30 1981 2wd long bes style side hilux, she's a good ol girl but needs a bit of upgrading in some areas.

    1. It has drum brakes in all 4 corners and after owning it for a while now I have bled the brakes and changed shoes etc amd and t still feels like garage, I would like to upgrades to some disks in the front , question : is there anyone out there whos has swapped out theirs and how interchangeable are hilux parts?

From what I have seen they dont look that different at all.

I have a lovely worked 18rg to go in place of the 18rc so I feel that thos swap would be more than a good idea ha!

    Thanks in advance,

    Ben

  4. OK so I'm starting to finally get somewhere with this, i have picked up some new CV's From REPCO at a fantastic price, they only had the left one available but the other is on its way and i should be available to pick it up after easter, $160 ea which i thought wasn't all that bad considering they come with 5 year or 100k warranty.

also got my new GMB water pump.

rear tail lights came yesterday as well, look to be in good shape apart from the odd heat/age fractures.

Looks like someones going to be having a full on easter break.

  5. Certainly a good project at any rate - not too many limits with where you can go with it and you've got a pretty good blank canvas to start off with too :D

Any thoughts on what colour you'd do the respray??

Paint, im thinking matte black..... don't ask me why, im feeling this rattiness about it.....

hey all thanks for the words of encouragement

little bit of progress today, managed to clean the front up a little bit and make it look a bit more respectable, also found a second hand front bar, indicator and a few other thing, all Jap came through with the goods so i will be picking them up on the weekend woot woot

  6. Not bad mate, looks good, just needs a good clean, cut and polish. Yeah the new wheels would be mint on it, respray would come up really nice on it. What else does it have on it? Completely stock atm? Any other mods you doing to it?

hey mate thanks, yeah its not too bad, in gave it a bit of a wash yesterday, the interior need a fair bit of work but im thinking i might just scrap the interior and leave the dash, center console, seats and 1/2 cage...

it's all very stock i think, i mean in haven't really had the opportunity to really experience a standard one as yet, previous owner installed a BOV, it had this terrible trumpet on it that made it squeal like a pig.

Welcome mate. Looks like the next several weekends would be gone!! Good luck to all the planned work.

Thanks mate, yeah as i say its a bit rough and yes the next several week will be gone!!! hahah

  7. So here it is...... the so called Diamond in the rough......

I purchased this car about a week ago, since i have found many a problem, first was the front support beam under the radiator, looks like someone has had a bit of a front end and someone forgot to tell me.... or did they, considering the front bar was changed (to a ****ty looking one with a paint brush style stroke) by the previous owner and was somehow missed.

stuff in the brackets are plans

Anyways plans are too get everything that is wrong fixed, motor sound and feels to be in tip top shape (holds boost and RPM well) so this is a good start but i do need to change the water pump. (bit of a tidy up, new leads, ect ect)

Clutch seems to be heavy duty but i could be wrong. (Give it a hard time and see what happens)

Gearbox is tight but some gears are a bit noisy and crunchy to get into. (fluid change amd Bush kit)

CV's are ROOTED and i mean ROOTED. (New items)

Suspension is shagged. (Coilovers, New bushes all round, sway bars, rear strut brace, 1/2 cage once Roadyed)

Bonnet has bog work on it. (New Bonnet)

Front bar looks like Sh*t. (standard Front bar replacement)

paint and panels are all a bit shabby. (Matte Black!!!)

and finally some new Wheels that say "sex"...

    anyway here it is.

  8. Not getting any hits in the WTB section, hope its ok here?

    Hi all,

just recently purchased a Toyota Starlet GT Turbo (EP82), at first glance it all looked very good condition and i thought with a bit of a tidey up it could be a nice car...... FAIL i was wrong, i got it home and removed the terrible aftermarket front bar that looked like it had been painted with a brush to find that it has a front end accident.

anyway enough of the sob story, i need a few things to get it looking good and hopefully pass a roady.

    Item(s):Standard Front bar

    4x strut towers Rear/Front

    1x Drivers side indicator

Let me know what ells you have, i might take a fancy to it....

    Condition:Second hand preferably.

Location:Prefer Brisbane, Goldy or sunny coast.

    Contact: 0413 068 456 (Ben)

    Thanks for your time.
