Kluger Grande sat nav over ride

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just picked up a 2013 grande - love the car

The only problem is the sat nav not being able to be programmed while the car is moving. What a terrible feature, what were they thinking!!!

I have searched this site and the web and all the overrides i could find are pre 2009 and do not work any more.

Does anyone have any idea how to override or give me the details of an auto elec / sat nav expert in the Sydney area that could fix for me.

Thanks

Hi , i read on one of the Toyota sites that this is simply due to the fact for road safety. The unit can only be programmed pre trip (or stopped) , with mine i just use the voice command function while driving , and get it to search that way.

Programming a GPS takes a lot more button-presses and concentration than simply changing a radio station, hence why it is disabled whilst the car is moving, to prevent the driver being distracted. Same reason why dash-mounted DVD screens can't play movies unless the handbrake is activated, to stop drivers being distracted by a movie whilst driving.

It's not a "terrible feature", it is a safety implementation to stop people taking their eyes off the road and plowing into a telegraph pole, or worse oncoming traffic.

Thanks all for your concerns re road safety

What about the passenger!

If anyone is interested i have purchased a add on from the states that overrides this very ordinary safety feature. No more pulling over to enter an address.

Since I have updated my disc to the 19 version I can no longer input destination while driving.

That tells me it's a safety feature in the latest maps. I can live with it so no problem
