Without the service car a 1974 2000 GT Corona, it is unlikely that the Corolla would have made it to the finish line. The service crew had the ability to pick up flat tyres, broken parts and scout ahead of the rally to obtain much needed replacements and repairs. The longest driving stint was Alice Springs NT to to Port Augusta S.A. in 10 hours flat out down the dirt averaging over 100 kph.
