  1. Have a 2008 1.3ltr yaris with 100k on clock.

When cold the car runs like a dream until about 10 - 15mins into the trip, once the car has warmed up.

At first I will feel slight misfires which gradually get worse. Going up small inclines may mean changing it back a gear.

As it gets worse you will be pushing harder on the accelerator to try and maintain speed and will eventually need to pull over as the car won't want to go or even idle.

Very rarely I get a check engine light and the car smells of fuel. Otherwise I get no codes on the scan tool.

So, I have thrown parts at it under the guidance of a mechanic mate but we haven't been able to put our finger on the issue.

Have changed spark plugs, swapped the coils packs from a working Yaris, put in a new O2 sensor, put in new in-tank fuel pump and filter, and put in a new crank angle sensor. None of it has changed the issue.

    What do you think?

  2. So I'm not sure how many transmission specialists are on here but here it goes...

I have the V6 Rav4 with the U151F transmission in it. When cold the transmission doesn't want to drive forward. I'm lucky I am on a hill so the roll on allows the car to get some momentum to get up and going.

We drive around our suburb for around 5mins which allows the transmission to warm up and drive gets better. By this time the car is performing and we can get it out onto the open roads without issue.

We have been driving it like this for months. I have dropped the ATF a couple of times and changed the filter. Doing this has not changed the issue.

Recently I pulled out the valve body out of the transmission and tested the electrical resistance of each of the solenoids which was within spec. I then put 12V across each solenoid to make sure they were actuating, which they were.

I put it all back together and she went like a dream. Drove it everyday without issue for a month until it started acting up again.

I'm thinking it is the solenoids but can't confirm. What do you guys think?

  3. Have an '08 SX6 V6 and is a great car.

My family used to own a XR6 Falcon and i went a little over board with performance mods.... but it was an awesome car to drive ;)

Now i wouldn't mess with the RAV but have always wondered "what could be done to make the V6 sing?"

I know someone will say "chip it" which is probably true, but i want to know is there actually a chip available?

Airbox and exhaust is always a common performance mod for cars....are these available?

I'm sure a blower would make it move....is there enough room?

These are the sort of question i'm want answers too.

I know the Rav is a 'family car' etc. and 99% of you would never change how she goes but for interest sake i'm looking for someone that has come across some info that might bring out the mod freak in some of you :) even if we are only talking about it.

Anyone heard of opening up the V6?

    Who's a Toyota mechanic here that know's it's limitations?

There are other Toyotas that share this motor. What's been done to them?

    :)

  4. I have cut down 2 huge Foxtail palms and carted them to the dump in one hit.

Bit hard to say what it weighed but the old box trailer was damn close to capacity just by looking at it. There was alot of weight in it.

Unbraked trailers are register at a 750kg capacity although some a built better than others so my weight could be either side of this figure.

I could feel the extra load on my SX6 but it was much. Felt it more under brakes though with the load pushing me along.

  5. Yeah don't worry if you have lost the card. I did my 10,000 km service yesterday and I don't even remember if I even got given a card. I also did the service at a different dealership to the where I bought the RAV4. I bought it in Oct 2008 and it's in their system and they automaticaly know which service plan your car is on...cost me $150...Sweet!! ;)

Oh thats great, for some reason i thought u actually had to have the card to get the deal.

I'm 95% sure thats whats they said...... oh well thats awesome news, Thanks.

  6. I've lost my service card which gives us $150 services for 3 years.

Our SX6 Rav4 has just done 10000km and i can't find it anywhere.

    What can i do?

  7. The ability to cancel that annoying beeping when you leave the keys in and open the door!!!

    Hate it!

    Love your ideas though....

Wish the layout off the steering controls ie.radio buttons and cruise control where more like my BA XR6.

And I hate having to press the volume button down for 5 mins (exaggerated) just to get the volume up to a decent level.... is soooo slow.

  8. Yeah i have a SX6 and although i don't own a caravan i would love to here comments from other V6 drivers on towing them as well as from the 4 cylinder guys.

Since this is an older thread i don't think that 'dakodamephis' would mind expanding the thread.

  9. Ha ha, wasn't so much of a drama just got my father'n'law to come around and give me a jump start.....

See what happened was my 2.5 y/old chucked a tanty in the car and wouldn't get out when my wife got home from shopping with the kids. Jodi took our 6 month old in to the cot to finish off her sleep and returned to find Nina in the front seat with half the buttons pressed in and dials changed.

Reset everything but didn't notice the keys were turned to the 'on' position.

12 hours or more later our battery was dead flat. Wouldn't even click when turning the key and the lights wouldn't come on.

Multimeter show 4.8V at the battery.

So it got me thinking, when the key is left 'on' what is running to make the battery go flat?

I thought the usual dash lights, fans (AC on), elec. fuel pump primeing, but didn't think they would be enough to make it go flat. Didn't have anything running of the 12V socket.

What else would be running when it's on 'on'?

  10. Just come back from weekend road trip down to Townvile and back and while going up the Cardwell range my wife and i did smell the 'sulpher' smell you refer too.

Thinking about it at the time i did realise that i had smelled it before although not as strong. Usually you shouldn't smell that smell from inside the car so i'm a bit reluctant to right it off so i might get it looked at in my next service and see what Toyota has to say :P

Apart from that the car went perfectly with plenty on tap for overtaking etc. as well as around 10L/100km for highway use which did include about 70km of around town driving so am happy with that.

    Heath.

  11. Hi achk, no can't say that i have smelling anything like that. Can't say that i accelerate very hard either. Am trying very hard to get good fuel economy out of my V6 but alas......

I know that the cat convertor can give off a 'rotten egg' type of smell when it get very hot but it doesn't sound like the smell you talk about.

Yeah it sounds like the dealer doesn't really know :)

  12. Yeah i hear u man, it seams that there isn't much to talk about with the Ravs.

I have owned my Rav4 SX6 for a couple of months now and always check in here but not much happens from day to day.

I have posted a few threads asking questions and even posting pics to try and 'gee up' the conversation.

I'm sure that many people have looked in here for info....Don't leave if u can't find it! Post the question and get the ball rolling!

I am a member of many forums where the activity is huge so what we need is a few people to start talking about there cars. Even if u think u don't have much to say.

Pick a topic or make one up,

    My Rav

    Fuel Consumption

Washed my car the other day....

    Mods

    Day trips

    Longer trips

    Camping Trips

    Problems

    Stuff on Ebay

    Stereos

    etc.

Even advice on non car related stuff or if u have a joke to share...etc.

At least throw up a picture so we can see it.

There are heaps of Rav4's getting around the Cairns area that i see, especially new ones and i know Toyota has sold heaps over the years so there are heaps of drivers out there with experience to share.

Lets build this site up so that we can all enjoy knowing about what we own.

I'm sure the moderators for this site have heaps of ideas as well so lets give them a nudge :)

    Heath.

  13. Hey everyone,

Just wondering how u get those metallic looking parts next to the stereo off? Anyone know?

    Cheers

Man, i thought u wanted to pull the whole dash out! Never a fun job...

But seriously just get a screwdriver and a rubber mallet....... did i say seriously

Will have to go have a look mate, when the wife gets home.

    Heef.

  14. Damn vassam, u stop this thread dead in it's tracks.

Anyway what did you end up doing?

Did you sell it or did you calm down and walk away happy when they sorted out your cars problems....?

Yeah these V6 go hard! Very toey i must say compared to my BA XR6 i just traded. If i just touch the pedal i'm doing 60+kph. Have to get used to the instant responce or my economy will go out the window :D

Not a lot of room under the bonnet to bolt a supercharger but..... :P
