  1. Same issue with my 2007. Had it in for 120k service 6 weeks ago & raised the sticky dash with the Toyota dealer on the basis that it was becoming unsafe (reflecting onto windscreen).

When I picked the Aurion up dealer told me that it had been referred to Toyota as an out of warranty claim. Two days letter phoned to say dash replacement had been approved at no cost to me (quoted $1230 if I was to pay) but it would be 4-6 weeks for replacement to come from Japan.

Had new dash fitted yesterday. Squeeks & rattles now all gone so that's a bonus.

Highly satisfactory result - I have been using this dealer for about 15 years to service my various Toyotas so maybe that played some part in it, or Toyota has suddenly realised the problem is bigger than first thought.

  2. Has anyone removed and/or replaced one of these on a 2007 Aurion?

If so could you please let me now the procedure.

Mine is faulty & I don't feel like spending $550 for Toyota to supply new & replace so intend picking one up from a wrecker & replacing myself.

I'm assuming it is just a further step from removing the radio system (which I have done before) but maybe there is another twist to this particular component.

  3. Just had the intermediate shaft on my 2007 ATX replaced yesterday after the knock appeared at 49000K & 1 year out of warranty.

Dealer attempted to get an "out of warranty" fix but I gather he was unsuccessful as he said that the cost was being picked up by the "Extra Care" warranty which I (fortunately) negotiated for 2 years at half-price when buying the Aurion.

All feels & sounds good so hopefully problem won't recur with the replacement part.

  4. Close to needing new tyres on my ATX (215/60R16 genuine alloys-16x6.5" I think)& considering replacing wheels with 17x7".

Tyres under consideration are 225/50R17 although these seem to be in limited supply with a 95V rating. Other option is 245/45R17 which seem to have quite a bit of brand choice as well as meeting the 95V rating.

    My questions are:

    1. The ATX load rating with 16" wheels is 95V whereas the higher spec models with 17" wheels is 93V. By upgrading the wheels to 17" do I still have to comply with the 95V rating?

    2. Is anyone running 245 tyres on a 17x7" wheel? From what I have read from some tyre retailers sites, the minimum wheel width for 245 seems to be 7.5" but the RimsnTires calculator shows 7" as being okay.

Prefer to get this "from the horse's mouth" if possible.

Presumably there shouldn't be any rubbing issues with 245 - not lowered.

  5. Toyota has a service bulletin out on flaring, rough downshifts for the aurion. Only applies to certain manufacture dates. There are a couple of fixes I think, one includes adding extra oil, the other is a transmission ecu swap or reprogram.

Is it possible to get a copy of this service bulletin?

I have a 2007 ATX which experiences this issue from time to time, mainly when cold.

  6. firstly, im running at the PDW equivalent of BBOSS ELEANOR as well. nice wheels, but i recon the 19' looks better than 18', i tried both of them on my aurion, the 19' is much nicer. my aurion is on stock suspension, and height, no issues at all.

for the tyres, im using 245/35, which made by PDW as well, not a perfect tyre, but good enough for that price.

btw, the package price for 19' and 18' is only $200 different when i bought them from bobjane.

I have read your original thread & had noted only a $200 price difference but I wasn't sure which tyre brand you had gone with. I didn't know PDW actually made tyres, or am I misreading you?

I'm not sure I want to go to 19". This is a family car & the ride may be too harsh on a 35 profile tyre (which is another reason why I lean towards the 225/45 profile with probably Falken FK452).

  7. Currently have standard 215/60R16 Goodyear Assurance on Toyota 16" x 6.5" alloys.

Looking at aftermarket alloy 18" x 8" probably the PDW equivalent of B.Boss Eleanor. Not intending to make any mods to the suspension or lowering (at this stage anyway).

Tyres are the issue as always. My thinking is one of the following sizes: 225/45R18; 235/45R18; 245/40R18 all of which fit into the Qld regulations. My first choice would be the 235/45 but these are not all that common & probably therefore expensive. The 245/40 concern me with the possible clearances with the suspension (15mm closer) and mudguards (stick out a further 15mm & perhaps beyond the edge).

Therefore the 225/45 seem to be the best compromise with more choice & little issues with clearances.

Before making my decision, is anyone running the 245/40 or the 235/45 with stock suspension/no lowering & if so have they had any clearance/rubbing issues?

  8. Also, I think if you hit the radio/cd/etc button whilst the GPS is on, it will take you to that screen, but GPS is still running in background, so when there is a turn coming up it will quickly take you back to the GPS screen, and then back to radio.

Waynus: do you mind posting a picture of how your head unit ended up fitting into the dash. Are there any gaps in yours similar to the ones I have in the pictures from first post?

Should see the issues I am having with this seller regarding the reversing camera, never will I deal with Pay_per_view again!!!!!!! Took one month for me to get it, and it is used and missing the power cable.

    I'll give the GPS/Radio a test tomorrow.

I'll take a couple of photos of the unit tomorrow as well & post them up.

I just hope this unit doesn't fail because the chances of getting any satisfaction seem remote judging from your experience so far. I seriously have doubts about a seller who states item is in Brisbane & ships it direct from China - I'm still considering whether to report this to EBay.

  9. Good stuff champ, glad you didn't have any major issues.

To get speaking street names you need to select a voice which says TTS next to it, I am assuming you have selected a British voice with TTS next to it. For some reasonthe British TTS is not loaded onto the SD card, and selecting it will result in no spoken directions at all. When choosing a voice scroll down and find an American voice which says TTS next to it (if you want spoken street names) or any other voice if you don't care about spoken street names, that will fix it up for you.

What issue are you having with the steering buttons?

    Cheers,

Cheers Imposter, found one American voice with TTS (Susan?) & that did the job. Thanks mate. Would be interested to see if I could get other voices loaded onto the SD card so will do some research during spare time this coming week.

I guess it is a deliberate design not to be able to listen to the radio or a CD whilst the satnav is operative.

No major issues with the steering buttons (AT-X) - I have the volume + and - working fine. The mode button at the moment turns the system on & off & I don't know that the other 2 are doing at this stage. The instructions are not real clear & I just need some time to sort out what the various functions are & which button(s) they need to be assigned to. I think I have managed to get the radio to Australia rather than USA2 which it seemed to default to. Anyway I have no major complaints with this unit.

  10. Well I installed it this morning. No real issues with the physical install & wasn't doing a camera. It fits fairly well, certainly enough for me not to be concerned.

    Bluetooth works fine with my Nokia 6300;

    DVD's play perfectly;

    Audio CD's & MP3's play perfectly;

    Radio is very clear & managed to get the steering wheel buttons working to some degree although more tweaking required. Manual instructions are not that clear to me;

Not interested in TV or IPod connections so left them alone.

NOW - the GPS does work as I took imposter's suggestions re the SD card first.

Imposter - do you know if this unit speaks the street names? There is a section to set up voices which I have done but I don't get any when the GPS is in operation. The manual says to "See User's Guide of GPS Satellite Navigator for more operation details" - that would be great if there was one, I can't find it not even on the supplied CD? The 2nd thing is when the GPS is on, is it possible to listen to the radio? I can't work out how to do this if in fact it is possible.

  11. Sorry to reply to myself three times in a row, but just an update for anyone who purchases this unit and has issues:

    1) In my case the unit does not really sit flush in the dash

    * Reply to me was: No idea, our car dvd is specail for TOYOTA Camry, so please make sure your car is this model.

I tried explaining that it is an Aurion but still same and it does not fit etc etc, but they refuse to accept that it is not sitting flush.

    2) Volume controls not working

    * Sellers reply: Please find the answer on the last page of your manual, there teach how to solve this problem.

You have to program these yourself, I followed the instructions and all buttons now work. I thought it would have come pre-programmed but that was not the case.

    3) Ipod not being recognised

    * Sellers reply: Our unit support Ipod 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations, please make sure your Nano is in these 3 Generations.

    4) GPS plays up alot, when it works it is 100% perfect, however sometimes it says that NO SD CARD IS FOUND.

    * Sellers reply: On the top of the unit, there is one small whole shows reset, please press it, and take SD card out, and insert again, it will find the SD card, if not, please try it again until unit find the SD card.

For the record this does not work, I am led to believe that there is either an issue with the SD card/SD card reader in the unit. I will soon try a new SD card in there and see if it makes a difference.

Also the software on the SD card is not 100% correct and needs to be reloaded from the CD supplied

If anyone has any questions about this unit feel free to PM me or reply here. I am trying to sort out as much as I can.

Thanks for all of this. I am hoping I might get to mine later today & if so will report any issues. If there are any then it will be going back - I won't have your patience.

I will claim the item has been misrepresented & does not do what it is claimed it will do. Look at it all - claimed to suit an Aurion (but they seem to be saying in an email Camry only) & it doesn't fit properly; sent from China when item location stated as Brisbane; faulty SD card or SD reader. Will be an interesting exercise.

  12. imposter - did you ever get a response re the various issues, specifically the volume buttons on the steering wheel? Have you managed to get them working?

I received my unit yesterday (supposedly held in Brisbane, but sent from China) but won't be able to install it for a couple of weeks owing to a knee operation last week which limits my mobility. I might see if I can find an audio installer to do it for me.

  13. It will be interesting to see how you get on with the reaction from the seller. I have bought the same unit which should arrive early this coming week. Supposedly it was located in Brisbane but I have my suspicions it wasn't.

I asked them about the compatability with the AU Aurion & the reply was "The unit will arrive according to your AU car specifications and wiring."

My main interest in it is for the Bluetooth. Did you do the install yourself?

  14. 3) Unplug the two connectors that I have circled in red:

    dsc02670.th.jpg

In item 3 - unplug the 2 circled connectors - what are these for & is it essential that they be disconnected?

These are for the rear power outlet socket and the gear selector illumination. You don't have to unplug them, but you are only making the procedure more difficult for yourself because unplugging them allows you to remove the trim entirely and put it to the side giving you more room to work with.

Thanks, that what I needed to know.

  15. Okay, the guide is a bit rough, but it demonstrates the key points. Tools needed are a flat blade screwdriver and a 10mm socket or spanner. If your hands and fingers are small like mine, you only will need the shifter.

    1) Firstly put the shifter into neutral and open the centre console box:

    dsc02665tr7.th.jpg

    2) Then you need to unclip the top section of the centre trim. You can use the screwdriver to pry it apart, or your fingers:

    dsc02666f.th.jpg

    3) Unplug the two connectors that I have circled in red:

    dsc02670.th.jpg

    4) Go to the front of the trim and using your fingers, pull back and away from the A/C controls to release the clips. Repeat for the other side:

    5) Unplug the cigarette lighter power connector as circled in red:

    dsc02671bb4.th.jpg

    6) About 1 inch in, insert the screwdriver (or other flat object), and pull away from the dash horizontally until the clip pops out. Repeat on the other side:

    dsc02672xi9.th.jpg

    7) Pull the whole clock/vent assembly forward to release the remaining clips. Gripping the unit as shown seems to be the easiest way:

    dsc02677fm3.th.jpg

    8) Unplug the lower connector for the hazard light switch. You may unplug the clock connector as well, but remember that it will reset if you do so:

    dsc02678vd5.th.jpg

    9) If you just unplug the hazard light switch, you can place the unit on the dash as shown:

    dsc02679xv5.th.jpg

    10) Remove the two bolts at the top of the unit circled in red:

    dsc02680ov2.th.jpg

[image limit reached - continued below]

In item 3 - unplug the 2 circled connectors - what are these for & is it essential that they be disconnected?

  16. For those who have changed their standard wheels/tyres to larger ones, do you retain the old normal size spare wheel or upgrade that as well?

If so, what issues do you foresee with having to use it in the event of a flat?

    I have a 2000 Camry V6 which has standard 15 x 6 wheels & 205/65R15 tyres.

If I was to change these to 16 x 6.5 alloys with 225/50R16 tyres then according to the calculator this will result in -17mm in overall tyre diameter, which I believe is within the parameters of the Qld regulations.

In the event of having to use the original spare, how safe is this & what problems may arise with using the car?

Perhaps it would be possible to retain the original spare wheel but change the tyre to a 205/60R15 which reduces the diameter difference to +4mm?

  17. I believe I have a good understanding of the concepts of wheel sizes/PCD/Offset but wonder if there is a chart or something that will give a guide to what wheels will fit on what vehicle.

    For example, I have a 2000 Camry V6 which is a 15" x 6" PCD 5x114.3 P45 offset - standard tyres 205/65 R15.

If I was to buy used alloys from say a Mazda 6 or AU Falcon, how could I find out what the PCD & Offsets are for those vehicles wheels? It would have to be assumed that either the wheels are manufacturer supplied (standard) or if aftermarket, then the correct wheels have been fitted.

I know that CSA has a fitment guide for it's wheels giving all this detail but it refers to "CSA Offset" - could it be assumed that this is also the manufacturer's offset?
