  1. have you tried reseating the bulb? maybe the bulb was not in correct position. do you have the same pattern with the halogen bulbs?

I havent tried reseating it yet, though i did have the same pattern with the halogen bulb, it just wasnt as pronounced because it wasnt a bright.

has it been in an accident maybe one headlight is aftermarket?

not that i'm aware of, it did have a respray at some point (worst job i have ever seen) but they just said that was due to hail damage. i cant figure out why one would be deteriorating faster than the other, and well at $550 each, i kinda wanna find out if there is anything else i can do before buying genuine.

  3. not yet, the HIDs were a massive improvement for the low beams, the high beams did improve, but not as much.

I went HIDs rather than two new headlight assemblies because assemblies are $550 from toyota and noone else has been able to supply new ones for me.

I had a mechanic look at the reflectors today and the right reflector, while it looks good, is not in fantastic condition, so i will need to get a new headlight assembly at some point.

  4. Hey,

My drivers side headlight seems slightly dull in comparison to the passenger side headlight (see attachment), it also gives a different shape bright spot when parked near a wall.

Does anyone know why one would be dull and the other not? I have looked at the reflectors as best i can without pulling the headlight apart and it looks to be in good condition and also it has HIDs so wiring is not the issue as it was dull before and after the conversion(It wasnt one of those cheap and nasty HID kits, there is no glare for other road users :) )

    Cheers,

    Martin

P.S. the photo doest make it look dull, but there is a noticeable difference when driving and also when looking at the light on the wall.

  5. just a quick question about your set up, how much did the king spring lows lower the car? as far as i can tell, king springs dont make standard springs for the paseo and im not too keen to lower my car 30mm cus im just keeping it on stock wheels.

Marty I keep meaning to ask you. I have been trying to get an Owners Manual( the one you get in the glovebox when the car is new) and have not been able to get one. I have tried Genuine first. Was wondering if yours is in tact if it would be possible to Scan it and send it to me. Alternativly would happily come to Gladstone for a visit.

yeah mine is still intact, I still have the service book aswell, though it's been mostly used because I've done 190xxxks. I'll have a go at scanning it and see what sort of quality I can get out of it

    That would be awesome

Its actually come up pretty good, i'll just need your e-mail to send it to you (if thats what you want, it will probably 6 e-mails to get all the sections to you) because i cant upload it on here as its going to be a fair bit bigger than the allowed 10MB.

  7. That is what we used and it rides really well. I got a really good deal on the KYB s from Car Bitz here on the sunshine coast. I called KYB direct and they told me who the local dealers are. I am in the trade but paid cash and bought them direct saved about $120 over the quote I got from AUTOBARN, and my mate is the local manager. Hope that helps

ah true, i work at SuperCheap Auto so i get 25% off the parts, i think i worked it out that i can get all the parts for about $640. havent really looked around for prices cus i figured not too many places would be lower than that.

also, what did you do for bushes? like did you replace any or just keep the old ones?

The bushes in ours are in pretty good condition but being brisbane i would be calling fulcrum suspension they make super pro which supercheap are you at. I have just started as manager of tyreplus in nundah.

ah true, didnt think of calling fulcrum, we sell super pro at supercheap so all i would need from them is the part number. and im at supercheap auto up in gladstone

  9. i was talking to a guy at work, and he was saying that if i get lowered springs i need lowered shocks.

if thats the case, what sort of shocks should i be getting if i'm gonna be using king spring lows?

Did you get it soughted marety ? We are doing the same job. I have fitted Monroe with kings and it does not ride well at all!

I fitted these today and the result was fantastic would recomend this set up.

Ah thats good to hear, sorry about the extended delay in reply, have been absent from here for quite a while.

I haven't actually done mine yet, had some unexpected expenses arise then never got around to it, but the plan is to order my parts in the coming week, ive decided upon KYB shocks and kings.

Hopefully it will work well because at the moment the ride is horrible.

  10. Hi all,

First time back in quite a while :) , this post is more out of curiosity than anything else,

Ive been looking at headlight upgrades because the paseo headlights just dont really cut it for the amount of nighttime highway driving i do.

The CANbus system has come up a few time with different products ive been looking at, so i was just wondering if my car has it?

im assuming the 1996 paseo wont have a CANbus system, but thought i'd ask just in case.

    Cheers,

    Marty

  11. Hey,

I'm looking to put a 4age black top into my 1996 toyota paseo.

Does anyone know what is required to complete the engine swap, as in modification of engine mounts, ect...

I have access to a 4age blacktop with gearbox and wiring loom computer, and also know a mechanic who will help me do it,

basically I just want to know how hard the job is and an idea of what modifications will be required.

    Cheers,

    Martin

I would have thought a 4EFTE would have been a better swap for a paseo?

it probably would be, but im after an N/A swap as i still have a fair while on my Ps.

a blue plate mod such as an engine swap is still illegal for me but no cop around where i live will ask me to lift the bonet on a paseo lol

  13. Hey,

I new to the whole engine swap thing, but i'm looking at purchasing a 1994 or 1996 MR2, and because i'm a P plater i cant drive a turbo

so i was looking at dropping in a beams 3sge blacktop to get more performance out of it.

I have someone who can do it for me, i just dont know if that engine with actually fit directly into the engine bay and if it does fit,

do i need to get one with a transmission or do they bolt directly onto the stock 3sge transmissions?

as you can probably tell i dont really know what i'm talking about here so some help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Martin

It will all fit in fine, you will need the engine, loom, ecu, etc... basicly a whole half cut.

The transmissions are compatible as well.

IMO you will be wasting your time doing it, a 3SGE beams is a very expensive engine, and then there is the cost of the swap, etc.

also, in QLD at lest you cant do engine swaps that require a mod plate on your p's.

the 3SGE is a good engine, if you did some pretty basic mods to it you would be able easily get more performance from it.

Save your cash and once you are off your p's do a 3sgte swap.

Blacktop BEAMS is RWD remember, so there may be a bit more work required - redtop BEAMS might be a better option as it is transverse layout in both the ST202 and SW20.

yeah that is a good point, the blacktop may require a east-west sump, oil pickup, etc... maybe different mounts and stuff too..

the redtop would be a better option if you were going to do it.

regardless though, it would be an expensive swap (moreso than a 3sgte swap) and you would not net that much of a power gain from it.

yeah, after pricing more MR2s its looking more like an engine swap will be a no go till i get off my Ps.

but in that case, what would be some decent upgrades to do to the stock 3sge?

cheers for that, and your probably right, if i can find the right MR2 i'll probably just wait till my opens.

and as for the mod plate i was gonna register it in Dad's name to get around that, still probably wouldnt get me out of trouble where i live though lol.

and as for the cost of the swap, i can get that done for free if i have the engine and everything else (dad can do them).

the 3sgte swap was initially the plan when i hit opens, but i wanted something while i was on my Ps, so if i can get some other mods happening that will get me reasonably close to that

with a normal 3sge i would be pretty happy.

  16. look out for ::

slight cracks/rust in the solid water lines. on the left side near the firewall.

    cracked ash tray

rust on window / ruber / metal seal

and check the pop up lights are working ok and the handbrake.

cheers for that, i'll keep my eyes out for that and of course the obvious stuff.

    cheers

  17. Grab a basic 35w HID kit in 6000k off eBay, whack it in and bobs your uncle. Try to get a H4 high-low kit as you still have your high beams then - I think mine cost me about $150 delivered.

This is what I have in my car and the light output has improved IMMENSELY.

thanks for that, is it a fairly easy install, i'm told it is, but how do you think someone who doesnt know what they are doing would go?

  18. Hey everyone,

I'm looking at upgrading the headlights on my '96 Paseo.

i dont know if anyone else has noticed this...may just be my car, but the headlights on the paseos dont have a very good light output.

at the moment i'm running your standard 60/55W xenon blue halogens. they are better than my previous bulbs. but still quite poor as i do a fair amount of highway driving and they just dont light up the road nearly as much as other cars i have driven and seen.

anyway, i was thinking of upgrading to HIDs, now i know they are illegal, but so it putting higher wattage bulbs in.

i was going to go with a set of hella 181s but i need improved low beams before i worry about my highs.

this is the kit i was looking at getting: http://www.delonixradar.com.au/hid-xenon-a...dlx-35watt-kit/ but the 6000K version, blue ones would be nice, but getting white ones should draw less unwanted attention.

would they work well on a car like mine or would i be better off going with higher wattage bulbs(say 100/90W)?

oh and anyone who has put in and is using an after market HID kit, opinions/ tips would be great.

    thanks,

    Martin

  19. do u mean projector headlights by reflectors/headlight cover

ummm, at the moment i have a normalheadlight unit, so standard H4 halogen bulb with the silver reflector behind it and the plastic coveron the front.

    is that what your meaning?

Remove old bulbs, install HID's. You don't have to touch anything else and there are no aftermarket lights available for your car.

If you ever come down to Brissy, I can help you install them.

thanks, i'll keep that in mind if i have any trouble, i come to brissy fairly often
