  1. I am sure DJKOR wasn’t referring to any specific type of bolt. What he is saying you need to be creative, improvise.

If there is enough cable you could pass the cable thorough the hole and spin it around a bolt, then put the nut on to clamp the cable in place. Not any particular bolt, just a small one. I know it sounds dodgy, but short of buying a new cable you have to bodge up somehow.

which hole are you speaking about?

  2. Mate. Take it easy on the posting okay. Posting numerous times isn't going to help anyone. Some questions take time to get the right answers since some people may not have come across such an issue.

Besides getting a new cable, you can try to clamp a tiny nut and bolt to the end of the cable that snapped (if it still reaches the mechanism) and that will prevent the cable coming out of the latch mechanism; kind of like how that little bead at the end of the cable is, except it will be a nut and bolt. It's a bit tough to explain, but in a situation like this, you need to use creativity. Kind of like when you snap a brake cable on some push bikes. You have no other option than to replace the cable unless you can be creative enough to figure something out for yourself.

Ive been trying to look online for a pic of a nut and bolt that can clamp the cable back together. Do you have any pic of that kind of clamp? Or know what it is called?

Sorry about the multiple replies. I didnt know it got posted that many times. Is there any specific thing or wire that will let me clamp the two separated cables back together?

Could someone also help me advising me on how to get the hatch back onto my car? Its kind of hard. You cant just put a nut and bolt on it because there is basically a call. I was thinking of maybe a C nut?

I posted 2 pics of some bolts that I think would work. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you guys have better ideas or alternative options to what I am thinking?

Here the pics of bolts I am thinking of using to reattach the hutch the car

Thats a hex or V bolt...

    Thats a U Bolt

Has anyone tried to trick with one of these 2 type?

  4. Hi guys:

The trunk cable on my 1991 Camry snapped today. I still have the cable and the hatch (which the cable is supposed to be connected to) but I need to get the cable back on to it. I have taken a pic of my hatch (without the cable on it) so you guys can have a better understanding of what I am trying to say.

    trunk.jpg

What I want to know is, do I have to put a new cable or can I re-connect the old one back, because there is a lot of slack on it. Also, I need to re-attach the hatch back onto my car, which isnt as simple as it sounds. I need to take off some parts of the trunk in order to get the bolt in there.

Can someone please help me with this? If I havent been as clear as I think, please reply and let me know if you need more clarification.

Thanks for your help in advance.

  7. the map sensor and the plugs shouldn't stop the engine from running completly but will not make it very drivable - experienced both of these issues first hand. The mechanic that said it's the plugs should go back to school - if you on the coast ask some other forum members if they can come over and check it out , a few heads are always better than one and you may be able to 100% diagnose whats wrong. have you popped the bonnet and checked the timing belt? you should be able to see at least part of it - ive worked on a handfull of mates camrys and the timing belt won't cost an arm and a leg to change. take a picture of the bay from a few angles for us etc , take a video if you can of what it does when your trying to start it etc etc.

Thanks for the help. I have a mechanic coming by in a few hours. I have a feeling its the timing belt or the fuel pump. Ill keep you guys posted on what he says is the problem.

Just a side note, do you guys know how much it would cost (approx) to fix a fuel pump and timing belt? (its hard being a student)

  8. Go to a mechanic.

I got a mechanic to come to my place and check out the car (since I cant drive it). He said that its the spark plugs that are causing the car not to turn on.

My question is, since I was driving when the car turned off does it seem right to be the spark plugs? Arent spark plugs used to start a car and while the car is running the spark plugs arent really being used?

No! Spark plugs are used to create the spark to burn the fuel so it goes off very very often. But how does it all die at the same time ??!?

I dont know how it all died at the same time. It doesnt make sense. It seems to be the fuel pump. The mechanic that came over gave me the feeling that he doesnt know what hes talking about. I told him that the car was driving when it turned off, I dont know how he came to the conclusion of spark plugs.

He said for sure its not the alternator or battery. I think Im going to get another machanic to come check it out tomorrow, but its just so hard to get a mobile mechanic in the Gold Coast (Australia)

  10. Mine did that before I changed the motor and you guessed it timing belt snapped! Bought a new one and 4 hours later run like a dream.

How much does a timing belt cost? I heard theyre pretty cheap for a 1991 Camry 4 cyl, but I heard the labour could be costly

  11. Its cranks but it seems no gas is going to the engine. So I thnk its the fuel pump. It makes noise when you try starting it. Its the exact same noise as when your car runs out of gas and you try starting it

are those expensive for 91 Camrys?

  12. could also be that the MAF sensor has shat itself. the engine will still crank if this is buggered, and if it dies while you're driving then your car will turn off. another distinct possibility.

:( That would be horrible. The last I check, a MAF sensor for a 1991 camry is like $400. Please tell me that isnt true

  13. When was the timing belt last changed?

I dont know when the timing belt was changed because I bought the car in Sept 2007 and I didnt ask the guy when it was changed

the reason why I dont think its a timing belt issue is becase when a timing belt breaks it makes a pretty loud noise, which I didnt hear. Also when I pushed the car home, I didnt see anything on the ground (as a timing belt).

Just a question, if the alternator was dead, does that mean that battery would be drained also?

  14. You didn't provide enough info to the problem for us to help.

What happened when it stopped? Sounds? Check Engine Light?

Now when you try to start it, does it crank? Does it make a ping? Does it do absolutly nothing?

Can be anything from an electrical issue to a spark to a fuel to even the timing belt snapping.

Well after is turned off, i pulled over on the side of the road and tried starting it but it wouldnt start. It would try starting and the belts would start moving but it just wouldnt start. There were no sounds at all. I dont think any belt snapped, they all looked in place. It tries to start, its seems like theres not enough gas in the car to start, but im sure thats not the case because there is gas

Im starting to think it might be the fuel pump

  15. I was driving home yesterday from school and all of a sudden my car just turned off (while moving). I checked the oil and gas and it is fine. The CD Player still works and i tried getting a boost from my friend so I dont think its the battery. Since the battery is stilll turning the CD Player on, I dont think its the alternator (because if the alternator was dead, it would drain the battery also). I dont think its the starter because it turned off while the car was on.

Someone said it could be a sensor or a coil, I have no clue !!

The car is a 1991 Camry, 4 cyl, manual. If someone has a clue of what it could be, it would be very helpful. Or better, if someone knows a mechanic that lives in Surfers Paradise that I could show my car to

  16. Hey guys I recently bought a 1991 Toyota Camry. Theres 2 minor issues with it. The rear right park light doesnt work. The bulb seems to be fine, so my next guess is to check the fuse. I cant seem to find the fuse box though. Does anyone know exactly where that it?

Also, the cigarette lighter isnt working. I use that power for my ipod and phone charger, so it would be beneficial for it to be working. I am hoping its just the fuse that isnt working, but once again, I cant find the fuse box.

Can someone please tell me where the fuse box is please? A picture would help, if you can post it. Thanks in advance

On the driver's side in the boot between the exterior panel and suspension mount, there's a black box inside that gap. You'll find the fuse in there.

The fuse for the cig lighter is under the dash I think where everything else is. It's quite easy to pop that 15A fuse but pull out the interior trim and see if the connections are in tightly as the cig lighter can come loose off the mount quite easily if you change plugs regularly

is that on the driver's side or the passenger's side?
