  1. Most car models are on a 6 year cycle with a facelift after 3 and a minor facelift and equipment upgrade at 5 to keep the model still selling.

Keep an eye out for a special edition in the last year ("Edge" or "Sport" for the Corolla) this will usually tell you that a new model is coming out soon, although they have been known to do the special editions just to increase sales too.

I would expect a new model to be released 2013 for the Corolla, I think the ZRE was available from April 2007?

These are just my observations so don't go making large bets with people based on them....

  2. My trip computer says range 540km to empty after filling up. My average so far is 7-7.1 L/100km (only had the Levin ZR 5 weeks). Theoretical range 770km or so. So the computer is being conservative and I can't get it to change its' mind.

A few extra tips for filling up...

Don't fill up when the fuel station is filling up! The tank is getting stirred up and that is bad. Not sure about multiple underground tanks but if I see a tanker I keep on driving just in case.

Fill up when the underground tank is going to be coolest. Early morning before the sun heats up the ground is best. Petrol contracts when it's cold so you get more for your money. Be aware though that if you fill up to the brim with cold fuel and then park in the sun (or heating up garage) you will have little room for the expansion that is going to take place. Been there and done that. It leaks out through the cap and stinks out your garage and the rest of your house. Use up fuel before you park or don't fill to the click.

  3. By law you have to have reflectors on the rear of the vehicle. This is so traffic can see your vehicle easily at night when it's parked on the side of the road. I'm not sure if your tail lights have the reflectors in - like the pre-facelift does. I have seen these after market reflectors with a ring of LEDs around the outside but still function as a reflector in the centre.

As always - mod at own risk and doing your homework first is always a good idea...

  4. the display button on the prefacelift is on the dash itself, looks just like a odometer reset button thingy, only one or 2 things have been altered if i can remember such as the date and time have been put together and the layout just a tad different but other than that still the same functions that i can recall

Thanks, currently trying to decide between new and used, FL or preFL. $8k difference...

  5. Thankyou for the response.

The fuel is rather off putting. I'm currently looking at a rav 4 edge 2009 with 7500kms. I guess the fuel economy wouldn't be so bad with those k's on the clock.

Tossing up between that and a corolla but don't know if the rolla will suit my needs in a year or 2. Economical and cheap to keep yes but may not have the room for lugging my business stuff around. Which the Rav will be overkill for right now but in the future....

    Decisions decisions.

Going to test drive both new next week to see what feels right for me.

    Thanks again.

  6. I do believe there is a front view photo of the facelift ZR on the carsales news page.

I really like the front view!!!! Rear???? I guess it will grow on you in time, not as much as the 3 grin - another decade should do it.

    Quote from the site:

The MY10 model also means USB/iPod input and Bluetooth is now standard on all models.

Toyota Corolla MY10 pricing (all prices are manufacturer list prices and don't include government and dealer charges)

    - Ascent $21,740

    - Conquest $24,500

    - Levin SX $25,690

    - Levin ZR $28,900

Has the price dropped or risen?

  7. So, no change to the 100kw engine or 4 spd auto gear box.... hmmm.... was hoping oz might finally catch up with the overseas models.

    Ah well.

It looks like new standard features across range are:

    - Stability and traction control

    - Front side air bags

    - LED indicators in mirrors

    - D shaped steering wheel

  8. A couple of years ago I bought a new set of tyres. Later that day I drove from Brisbane to Toowoomba. When I arrived I noticed I was missing a wheel nut. All the nuts on the driver's side of my car were barely finger tight. Luckily I had a spare wheel nut and luckily I survived to use it.

First chance I got I went back to the tyre place and informed them. The owner/manager thanked me for letting him know. He was a good honest bloke and I've gone back there since. I've only dealt with Jax once and wasn't impressed, nothing particular just felt unprofessional. I do check my wheel nuts after any tyre changes now for my own safety, it is my life after all. I've also developed the habit of glancing at my tyres before I get in after work. I've spotted 2 punctures that way so far before driving off.

OP did you have a lock nut on your wheel at all? Might point to a thief if that was the only one left holding your wheel on and it finally snapped.

Personally I think the period of time is against you.

    Safe and aware motoring.

  9. but you lose the smart keyless entry and auto headlight/wiper and different dash board.

Yeah thats what you miss out on but with cruise pack you get cruise, leather wheel with built in audio and the enhanced safety pack is all that plus

VSC/TRC ,all the airbags and optitron dash..

So basically it could be a ZR minus keyless,HID and auto wipers.. Popular though, ive seen heaps and 7 of them last week on test drives..

You also lose climate control, electro chromatic rear mirror, upgraded cloth, and ZR alloys. Oh and the ZR badge. Headlight washers I'm not sure about...

I looked into an edge when they first came out 2 or 3 months ago. I could get both the safety and cruise pack in a black manual only. There is only a couple on carsales that have one or the other but not both. A dealer might say different but I think you are too late.

I'm waiting til I see the facelift in the metal and may wait til January for a ZR. Time will tell.

  10. 3.with a bit of force start from the bottom right corner of the door and slowly just start pulling the trim towards (it may be hard at first but just give a i little)

Please correct me if i'm wrong but I think that should be - the bottom corner opposite the hinge... Depending on driver or passenger door.

Rivets??? Really?? I suppose most people wouldn't change the factory speakers so would make sense from manufacturing point of view.
