  1. 1j as the 7m is becoming rare and expencive to rebuild and unfortunatly the engine/head design is shocking i mean buttom end good for 500-600hp but the head just wont stay down and the gasket will let go where as 1j isnt a massive job to do conversion theres some places that have a day turnaround if you were to do it your self and you had all the tools required you could probably do it in a week or so and you dont have head gasket issues with the 1j even 2j if you have a little more money to spend

id be looking into the 1j conversion though

  2. why not go for the car thats sorta best of both is 350 base mod you can pick up for around 70000 and you get is looks and practicallity with 350z performance

Base model, new IS350 is $64k.

With 233kW and 378Nm of torque it's like an Aurion with direct injection and rear wheel drive *drool*, almost as powerful on paper as the Aurion TRD, but apparently faster from what journalists are saying.

its direct and port injected buddy v6 with 12 injectors port injection gives more torqur at low rpm and the direct injection give higher power output now thats tecknology

  3. hey so here is the short story,

heavy rain, poor visibility, knee deep puddle of water.. few hours later towing my car home :(

well im pretty sure my cars been hydrolocked, reds come on but doesn't crank..

now my question is would it be cheaper to do a engine swap or just to rebuild the motor.

I was thinking of rebuilding the motor and upgrading some parts since its opened but im not sure what else i need to replace besides a bent rod in a hydrolock situation, does anyone have any ideas on how much i will be looking at spending.

did you try removing the spark plugs and then cranking to get the water out put fresh oil in replace spark plugs and try and start

  4. Hi there, first time user, so bear with me, please

Have 1995 LN106 3L hilux , 190,000k's, that I would like to turbo (improve performance).I have been reading blogs etc, but I am unable to find any comparison between the DTS system, denco and atx turbos

Any info on which turbo is best suited for the motor, or other improvements I could make to it would be invaluable

    stay well

if you go see a reputable 4wd specialist they can recommend systems to suit im from wollongong here we have turbo glide they have full kits and packages including tuning but other wise if you look online you can buy kits which have manifolds turbo and piping but you still need to adjust the pump timing and maybe injectors but you really need to go to the pros for that part of it as if the air to fuel ratio aint right on a deisel holes in pistons can be a result

also another word of advice with that engine high recommend servicing every 5000km 2500km if turbocharging i know it seems frequent but oils cheeper then engines

  5. thats why you make sure the engine functions in all conceivable ways prior to removal - hense my words " buy yourself an SX corolla thats smashed or in poor condition thats priced well for you then budget in the time and parts based on that." you will not have wiring issues if you transfer everything needed over , ive just done this on my AE82 and ive seen heaps of other guys do this on cars with no issues. My view is my view , yours is yours. The question was asked and we've both put our two cents in.

    Cheers

fair call but as a 2nd going on 3rd yr apprentice i think an engine rebuild would be best option as most apprentice wont do an engine build you gain experrience you wouldnt normally get untill qualified a yr or so and there much more sense of acheivement in building and old engine and having it start fist go and having good comp and nice drivabillity and no smoke bla bla bla then you get if you just swap an already built engine my saying is a fitter makes things fit a mechanic makes things work (my old mans fitter)

  6. dont waste your money doin your car up its nice n all but ive been there my corolla owes me 40G's if you want a fast corolla buy mine if you want a nice car just fresh up the motor and drive it other wise you just keep spending money it never stops

thats the point in playing with cars and building one up yourself , it's called pride "Buy mine" ... i say built not bought. Who ever said your car was what other people wanted anyway?

I suggest the cheapest and most cost effective way of keeping your car and placing a fuel injected motor in , buy yourself an SX corolla thats smashed or in poor condition thats priced well for you then budget in the time and parts based on that.

This way you get everything , engine , box , wiring , ecu , rear disc brakes nice interior pieces etc. The most cost effective way to build a nice little fun car.

ok say you do buy a wreak and swap stuff you can still run into wiring issues and sensors may be damaged not fun to look for faults when things arnt standard and when you remove things like wiring on cars which are 20 yrs old they get pretty dame brittle and any way even if he didnt like my car for my car

the engine is the 4age with much internal work done with after market ecu as it has a turbo on it

i have the gze transmission with mechanical LSD

bigger brakes and 17" alloys to go over them that will bolt on to the ae92 as i swaped all of this out of my ae93 seca and put in an ae102 seca

and if you swap it all you still have a self sense of achievement when you fire it up and all is sweet

  7. dont waste your money doin your car up its nice n all but ive been there my corolla owes me 40G's if you want a fast corolla buy mine if you want a nice car just fresh up the motor and drive it other wise you just keep spending money it never stops

  8. "Probably late but a it's easiest done with a pipe wrench or something of equivalence to grip the outer section (not the part where the removal tool fits on but the part above it) then you get your 1/4 inch drive and remove the smaller cap."

don't want to sound like a d!ck but its 3/8 drive.

When i am in same position i usually hold lightly in vice then use 3/8 drive to remove.

If you cant remove the drain plug for oil filter, don't worry too much. if still sealing don't fuss

Fixed to make you happy. Damn imperial.

have you guys heard of a vice you know the 1 you mount on a bench then you only need 1 set of hands and if it still wont budge use a rattle gun it'll come loose

Yes, I have heard of such contraption. If you could find one in my garage though, I'd give you $50. Some people have a limited range of tools you know.

save the 50 and go buy yourself 1 im sure bunnings can supply you 1 for and 50-100 quality pending

  9. Looking to upgrade my 2007 Presara - call to local agent says wait to early next year, a significant upgrade is on the way.

    Any indicators known?

direct injection engine maybe i had a little conversation with the lexus guy becoz i like the new is350 n being a toyota nut i asked when is toyota getting direct injection he said poss next year but it wont be like the is350 as its both direct and port injected i went ooh

  10. ive engine space is an issue then nothing wrong with running a rear mounted turbo wink.gif

    http://www.ststurbo.com/

ive seen something like that on a monaro (pontiac gto) in the states on a show they mounted the tubo behind the rear wheel and because of the distance the charged air had to trave from the turbo they didnt need intercooling of any discription but they used a small turbo as the exhaust gases had to travel so far before reaching the turbo but they still achieved a decent output

  11. So you buy a supercharged 2gr-fe and then you throw away the supercharger to put in a turbo wacko.gifwacko.gifwacko.gif

Also the first car is illegal in Australia due to emission level regulation.

2nd problem is in the rav4 v6 engine bay. There is no room to put in a turbo or supercharger. The only possible way is to put the turbo is under the engine somewhere.

Seriously if i was to spend $60k on the car and then spend $13k more to supercharge it i would just get myself a FPV GT V8 and aftermarket supercharge that for the same cost.

60k i can get a brand spanker cv6 for under 40k drive away and im not one for fancy things just fast things so the cv6 is fine

  12. 5k for a 2grfe thats insane man id be temted to buy that and a new corolla and try and make it fit i mean you buy a base corolla for say 20k that engine for 5k surely mounting and other runing gear wouldnt exceed 15k so for 40k you have a mighty fast corolla

    16 grand for a used 2007 base manual wink.gif

    lol
