I have check breaking system light on for a while (PRADO 2003 grande 4L petrol). Reading the code in one garage told me that I have break switch correlation problem. I checked the break switch and it is working okay (both pairs of connectors). Now I want to reset the DTC and try, but I really cannot afford 120 bux for each and every scanning at the mechanic. I want to check things myself, but cannot find a cheap scanning tool which would read my car. It does not seem to comply with the standard UBD2 protocols. Anyone has a scanner I can borrow or know where I can buy a USB cable to use my PC to diagnose DTC? Cheers, Val
  2. I never seen such light on my 2003 prado grande in 4 years of driving it
  3. Hi There I bought 2003 prado with a indash GPS, CD changer etc. The quality of the device appeared to be real rubbish (some 256collor low res display, dodgy touch option, horrible software (sensis version 1)), no dvd support for music/video, dvd playing GPS software/map does not support DL disks. All in all , that unit was a piece of rubbish in the current 2011. I bought a compatible unit on EBAY, paid 550 bux including reverse camera. I fit the whole thing in myself in 2-3 hours, the only challenge was to drill a bloody whole in the rear bumper for the camera. There is a metal bar behind the plastic bumper and that one took me some time to drill (drillbit usually inlcuded in the camera package). Everything works as cool as. DVD, memory card, bluetooth, ipod, gps, digital TV. To answer your question -- check EBAY for TOYOTA GPS DVD units. There are several types, running different softwares. With the rear headrests DVD I suppose you should check. Mine came with only indash screen. There must be a way to connect additional screens VAL

  5. Fair enough but some people dont realise what they need a tthe time of ordering the vehicle. Later it will be an add-on purchases, and aftermarket stuff might suffice (mats for example). In terms of afford -- you wanted to say the opposite -- after you bought a brand new prado you cannot afford anything in this life, including accessories, and of course genuine ones
  6. PEOPLE. Anyone driving GRANDE2003 with WHEREIS sat nav version greater than 2.01? I got v14 burnt on DVD+R DL and -R DL disks and it would not work. I suspect my DVD player does not play DL disks. ANyone? please. I hate this version 2 of the map, its like dated 2001 and missing heeeaps of things
  7. Dear people, I am sure there are heaps of prado drivers who have garage with slopy drive in. I have one -- about 15-20degrees. When I stop before the garage door I place the truck on P and pull the handbreak. Then I go up to the garage open the door, return back to the car. Then I release the handbreak with foot-break fully on. And then place the stick on D3 Then I release the break and start accelerating. The truck pulls back a bit, coz its steep and then start moving forward (up).. Everythings logical, as per the drivers book. BUT. Here I hear a strange crunch just under the feet, which sounds like something is trying to hook on something else (bearings, or whatever). ANd then it quickly goes away (that somehting eventually hooked onto the other something) Sometimes I dont get the CRUNCH when I accelerate veeeery slowly, but this will roll my car back to the road which I don't want. ANd I also do not want to un-hand-break the car while moving uphill (old-school manual driving technique) Anyuone knows what it might be? THankx VAL

I bought a grande 03 for $40K with around 65K on the clock. Immaculate condition. I no nothing about diesel, mines petrol
  9. there is a little logic in there if the lights were left on and the vehicle stopped, the lights go off (so that the battery is safe). then when you start the lights go on. there is some functionality there about locking the car from outside using the security button. I had same stuff in my camry 03
