SRI = Short Ram Intake
CAI = Cool Air Intake
SRI - is just a tiny pipe just sticking out of the engine and a pod at the end of it with enough room for the MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow i think is what it stands for) anyway this just sucks air from in the engine unless you get it enclosed and get a pipe from the front of the car going into the box that can hold a lot of cold air at one time.
CAI - is just a long pipe going from the engine to under the headlight or foglight this takes longer for the air to get into the engine so it is slower throttle response obdviously becuase the air has to go all the way back down the pipe
hope this helps just a quick reply CBF going into total detail ill let some other member go into it if u want a longer explanation
-
Im in gimme gimme
i need some looks at the front of the car it looks so stock so yea im in 100% :D :D :D :D
-
well when it comes to getting that aerial fixed i know that when i pulled mine apart the chip was elevated on a metal base that was about 2cm off the car roof with a small metal pole in the middle going into the car which most likely has the wiring that goes into the car stereo
Now i have pics of it all pulled apart and the look of the shark fin after wards that a few guys want pics of but i dont know how to add to the net if one of u guys give me the means to get it on the net to post up i will attatch
hang on ill try and attach the pic at the add this attachment hehe
yea i can attatch the pics ok im going to add all of the pics i took
ok next post more pics
i cant add any other attachments <_< <_< thats my limit so if anyone knows where i can post the rest i can show u all of the others there is about 6 or so more ones before the shark fin and after its on :)

<_< Now this topic was all about the short shifter and from what ive found and after installing the trd ss on my 1zz i have found that the shifts are not harder at all!!
unless u are some weak a$$ panzy ;) it is hard but i believe there is no big deal with the shifts its totally fine to shift all day everyday i feel that its easier to shift if ur lazy u dont have to swing ur arm as much its just a small throw probably half the shift from stock so it really makes it easier to shift.
Now with pricing i dont think u will find a better price other than kaze's guy to go through otherwise just pay the full price like i did its no big deal if u go over seas u will have to pay for shipping so i dont see it being any cheaper :)
in conclusion :D
Short shifter is :
- shorter easier shifts
- much easier to punch ur car into the next gear ie lift in the words of a 2zz owner
- but all in all unless u have one or have had one u cant really comment i mean if u have felt one for 10mins cool u hav some experience but racing, cruising & lazy 2am driving home that is the all in all learning a mod and how it works
i dont want to cause any disputes but this is about the Short shifter and i think that VVTLiR wants info on the mod and benefits / downfalls B) lets educate ppl not argue / dispute
NOW PLAY NICE :P
-
:D welcome to the world of super short shifts ehehehe
i cant stress how awesome this mod is it shortens ur shifts in half and feels so stiff when ur changing and in gears
it isnt cheap at like 300 and something but its worth it if u want a different feel and u want to keep ur thread on ur stick and not use a hacksaw and cut at ur shifter and have to use those screw in gearknobs i cant stand them i am never having a car without a short shifter again thats the first mod im getting for sure
sorry for the speech but i lost my voice i have a throat infection so i guess this is my outlet
-
Ok ppl i just pmd this to kaze so i thought id share the info with anyone else who is thinking about buying the short shifter
so u all knowi have it on a 1zz just like Danz we both have the short shifter on our cars
so heres the DIY short shifter
should take less than an hour as it took me an hour and i had to figure this stuff out myself
Now i wrote this before work i was half asleep so if some of it doesnt make any sense dont blame me
you need
- socket set
- a long extender for your socket set
- long philips head screw driver
- a torch just in case you cant see
- a small flathead screwdriver
now for the install
1st
take off the gear knob
2nd
take the ashtray out and then pull the black leather gear stick cover thats covering the old gearstick and cradle
3rd
go into the centre console and undo the 2 screws with the long philips screwdriver
4th
now the centre console needs to be removed
in order to get it out just slide back towards the back seat and it will come out slowly then you will have to lift up while going back so it can come out of the clips
now you need to lift over the handbrake and move it out of the way of the gearbox
You dont have to take it out of the car just enough to get it out of the way of the cradle
5th
undo the 4 bolts holding the cradle with the socket set
6th
now there is a clip holding each of the shifting rods to the cradle one of them is easy to take out but the other one is like a U shape it isnt to hard to get out but putting it back in is a bitch so pay close attention to how it comes out so you can put it back in using the flat head screwdriver will save you stabbing yourself with the clip
7th
once the clips are out just pull the rods off the cradle
8th
the 2 black circular rods at the frontend of the cradle need to be twisted then lifted off the cradle they arent to easy to get off a bit slimy
the cradle should come right out and then install the new one and plug it all in reverse
and enjoy the short shifting fun :) :D
-
hey man did that just change the centre lights for the ac or did it change the other lights as well can u take a pic of the whole centre console so i can see.
or do you come to the meets???
-
Alrite fellas whoever needs a car to store their accessories in my car is up for use
As ive already ran at WSID and have a good time to beat i want to see if some of you guys can beat it
but if you do beat it no hard feelings or remorse it just pushes me to get my other mods quicker so its sort of a good thing hehe
So whos g'd up to beat my 1zz's 16.1???? :D
-
Now i no that every 1zz wants to beat my time of 16.1 so i want to see all of u guys down there getting low 16z i want a challenge fellas i mean if i can do 16.1 any of u can get some good times
Ill be needing some new tread before this event so it all depends on when you all decide to come down if need be ill watch and be a cheerleader :P
but if i can get some cash ill get down there and give it a few runs now that the car is used to my CAI and Exhaust im sure it would be interesting to see if i can beat my P.B.
So whos down ??? B)
-
Hey we all know i am the 1zz man with the 1/4 record so i have to get as many mods on this car so i can beat northys time and have the fastest 1zz on the forum ever so hmm yea lets get it wats 400$ anyway :D im in B)
-
Nice stuff mate. Now I got to go to the meet I wanna see what its like :D
yea it is a bit pricey but what do you expect from toyota <_< i did some research and the after market rod is about 260 or so and that doesnt include shipping from america :o so if you could find one cheaper and total bolt on please tell the rest of us!!!
Saiya you better get down to the next meet im counting on seeing u there if u dont want to come down in ur stocky then pm me and i can pick u up so u can go down in the fastest 1zz "on record" in auz hehe B) i like that title...... has a nice ring to it :P
-
yea that works i was thinking of getting just the rod from america they have some good short shifters there but i wanted the new cradle as well and ive heard just the short shifter rod is quite stiff needs some muscle to get the gears round
thats what ive heard anyway
-
not really i find it a lot better than a big shifter its jut a touch lower than the centre console so it looks good and it isnt difficult at all besides im 6"5 so i have long arms
-
Yes i am happy with it its like a miniature gear knob now its so low and the new knob i have is super thin so yea its a big difference now
and it was 375$
-
I bought a new gear knob a few weeks ago and realising it was a threaded gear knob i knew it wouldnt have went on my stick i had.
as i had cut the stick over a year ago annoyed with my truck looking stick
So i wanted to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and get the thread for the knob and get shorter shifts at the same time
I bought the shifter at 11 from castle hill toyota the trd shop in sydney
i went to a hardware store and purchased an extension for my socket set
and by 12pm i was pulling apart my middle console and figuring out my transmission cradle
As the instructions where in Japaneese ;) i had to do everything basically myself just a brief look at the bodgy fuzzy diagrams that came with the new shifter every once in a while and see if they made any more sense <_<
by 1:20 i had the new shifter in and had the car put back to its normal state :P :D :D
Well i guess instead of all of this blabber the main thing i want to say is that Danz isnt the only 1zz who has a trd short shifter and to everyone who has a 1zz to get one if you are thinking of getting the shorter shifts and arent sure if the trd 6speed short shifter will fit get one and install it they work like a charm.

Ok now tell me what you guys think about how i reset my ecu i realised i did it wrong but tell me what you think.
1. took the battery off for 30mins
2. put the battery back on for 40 sec
3. took the battery off for 1min
4. put the battery back on
5. started the car and idled for 8mins
6. took the battery off for 45secs
7. battery back on
8. thrashed the little thing for about 1 hour on and off
normal freeway driving but giving it a good boot every so often
So do you think that was a sufficiend ECU reset or do you think i should do it again i dont know i realised i was wrong but had no time to reset it again.
-
Im glad that you agree silva and i will talk to the guys at the dyno place about a group dyno day when i go in a few weeks for the power run to find out how much power im pulling now ill post up when i find out
-
I totally agree with you SILVABULLET i was happy to see those figures but i no that its a different dyno to what everyone else uses.
But thats why i used it its different and has the same results everytime no tyre wear or slippage so i thought id try this type of dyno and ill keep going to them for consistent and accurate dyno results the numbers wont be the same as other dyno results from other cars, but the gains will be accurate thats for sure.
Yea the torque is all bull dont follow torque on any dyno,
just follow the gains thats what i have found anyway.
Ill be getting another dyno run in the next few weeks after as
Negatron our donour of my new CAI and Exhaust
(1) ECU reset
(2) thrash the thing for a few hundred kz
(3) get another dyno tune after the ECU is used to the mods
-
only my home job blitz intake with a trd panel filter that was so putrid i was surprised i had that much power out of the thing
You can see it in my avator
