  1. 2004 Ateva 2.4 . . ..computer says 9.1L (but it is wrong) actual consuption is around 10.2L/100km that is Brisbane city driving.
  2. Yeah it happend mate.Total damage comes up $6357.00 It hit every single panel of the car also completely smashed the window wipers corner lights site mirrors and the extremely expensive GTP mesh grill which for some reason no insurance company will recognise as the 6th part of the GTP Sportivo body kit. Luckily it missed the headlights which I only a few days before swapped out for some gen 4.5 ones. There really is to many pics of the damage that I didn't think it was worthwhile posting any cos I really wouldn't know where to begin (even though I said I would before). But since you asked here's just one of so many I could put up. attachment=4384:000_0003.jpg I know just whats it's like. My camry got hit in a hail storm. . . .with me in the car. Back window shattered and glass flew through the cabin. Had to cover my head with drivers mat!
  3. What is the go with LPG? I know taxis etc use it but is it something that is worth looking at for a 4cyl ('03) Camry? Is it a wasted effort on a 4cyl motor? is there a change in power etc?
  4. For my 2c worth, I have a current model Ateva, and I believe/hope it will be the last purely petrol powered car I own. The damage to the environment from human activity is too great for us to continue on the current course. While my car I believe to be bulk average in terms of fuel consumption I have had a good hard look at what else I can do, so now I cycle to work and follow a nice path along the Brisbane River, it takes me apprx 35mins which is the same time it would have taken me in a car! It is a fantastic way to start and finish the horrid working day. I have lost a few kilos, and saving I estimate $200 a month in car related expenses. I was doing $60 a week in fuel I am now doign that a month! to say nothing of servicing. . .. .I still drive on weekends at times when traffic is not a concern I can enjoy my car and going nice places. When you cut to the chase the real problem is perhaps not the cars themselves but the concept of suburbia. Peope wanting their 1/4 acre bit of the Aussie dream and living stupid distances from where they work with little in the way of public transport. The initial post on this thread also sighted the concern of the value of petrol powered cars in a world of higher gas prices. I would suggest that the value of the car is not as much of a concern as the value of realestate that is not in close proximity to places where people work. Short of there being another needless war I believe prices of fuel will continue a natuarl climb and there will be a reaction in the value of realestate as people are forced to adjust. Cars will I believe become more of a recrreational thing rather than commuting devices.
  5. With many Camry's of the current shape coming up to the end of their warranty, I just wanted to check with everyone about the top things to make certain are checked before this happens. An example of what I mean is with my own car: I have taken my 2003 Ateva in for service and asked them about a slight ticking sound that is in sync with the revs so clearly the engine. Toyota said they needed to check the tappets whilst cold, whcih they have now done. They have found the lift valves need to be replaced. These components are apparently worth around $26 each (cost to Toyota not retail) and there are four of them. But the labour charge must be massive, they got the car on Monday night and are working on it off and on and will have it back Friday afternoon (remembering Thursday is a public holiday). They believe it is a failed component and nothing to do with driving style or the way the car was treated prior to me buying it. They are also doing the rubber around the drivers door/window which apparently is a common flaw with the current shap Camry. So what I would like to know from the guys on this forum is, in addition to these items is there anything else that really ought to be checked in the final weeks of my warranty? Hope this also helps others who might be in a similar position.
  6. I wish they would bring out the diesel version. . . . follow Europe's lead and go diesel
  7. G'day all, I have an 03 Ateva 2.4. . . .just a bulk standard one and I try and drive it pretty light to save fuel. The fuel consumption meter/computer thingo which I have not reset for 6months always shows my consumption and being either 8.5L or 8.6L /100km. The consumption level I am happy with but I heard someone say once that these computers are only very approximate. I haven't gotten around to measuring with any level of acuracy distance vs liters to refile the tank but I do generally get around or a bit over 600km per tank so am guessing tghe computer is in the right ball park.... So how acurate do people think these things are? and does anyone know how the 'range' is calculated? is it done based on the average fuel consumption over the life of the car or based on the last few minutes of driving???? Cheers
